We are truly living in a golden age of jazz. Ravi continues his parent’s legacy. Carrying the torch of innovation, spirituality and creativity forward.

There hasn't been an album from Ravi I've listened to and not enjoyed. Each one has its own style and I love that about his work

Spirituality is such a nebulous term. Satanists are technically spiritual. It is not enough to be amorphous vis a vis a higher power. Christ is God.

The djembes & dun-dun, give the music, a tribal effect, unseen in Ravi's music, (as far as I know), since his father's "Kulu Se Mama". I also remember reading something about John Coltrane's loving the sound of John Gilmore. Mr. Gilmore's long standing association with The Sun Ra Arkestra, now headed by Marshall Allen. Interesting, yet, nobody seems to want to say, maybe even know. I do know there's an album, by The Sun Ra Quartet, called "New Steps" Featuring John Gilmore. "My Favorite Things", is covered, though it seems they seemingly chose another direction. Always more fun to study. Best wishes. Peace

I recall the first time I listened to Kulu Se Mama in 2013-2014 I think. I was still in high school and I became very quickly obsessed with its sound. I do find Ravi's use of the instruments a lot more on the quieter side but the djembes & dun-dun are great and I wish they were used more frequently. I didn't know about that with Sun Ra though I'll have to check into that album. Thank you for sharing

It is a M-Base Record. And like any Movements it has an Ebb and Flow in Recognition.
