I have listened to this video many times, and IMO, it is one of the best pieces of music that KZbin has in their collection and I am talking about all genres of music. Such music can be produced only when the maestros are (1) master musicians with great skills and great musical minds, (2) have great respect for each other, focused on producing great music above all interests, (3) close in style but very distinct in temperament, (4) are accompanied by another maestro who is not only skillful but knows what graceful accompaniment entails, (5) playing to a superb audience thoroughly enjoying the music but not loudly interrupting with applauses. I grew up listening to these masters live and their LPs playing together in 60s and early 70s. So, when they played together in Kolkata in 1983 after many years, I stood in line for many hours to buy a ticket. That was a memorable concert I remember very well to this day. In the 1983 concert I attended, in addition to Ustad Alla Rakha, Ustad Zakir Hussain also accompanied. The concert was longer, more "reserved" and "traditional" in the sense that both the musicians played great music individually but interacted a bit less. In this concert, we see much greater interaction like their 60s/70s concerts but they musicians here are much more mature. This recording, IMO, is a must-listen for all Indian musicians today in order to orient them towards what they should be striving for

What a treasure this concert is - with both players at their energetic peak and Ustad Ali Akbar Khan at his creative best bringing in multiple ragas in the alaap of Sindhi Bhairavi! Though this is common in Carnatic Music, its the first for me to listen to it by a Hindustani musician. Of course Pandit Ravi Shankar had been bringing in multiple ragas when playing the gats with his exposure to Carnatic music but to listen to multiple ragas in alap, this is one of a kind ever for me. Thank u so very much for uploading this audio-video concert and giving us a chance to witness again these mighty masters. Inderd, this concert is a superb example of what Hindustani music is, what maestros are, and, what a jugalbandhi is !!!

The last half hour on the Bhairavi is simply magnificent. The sound fidelity on the LP is much superior. However, this is compensated by seeing these great legendary maestros and their interaction in subtle expressions. What comes through is the leading originality of Ali Akbar Khann Saheb here. This video is precious. Wish the glaring and rather distracting words- Ravi Shankar- were not there, because the music says it all. This jugalbandhi is precious. A joy to See Ustad Alla rakha ji here.
