In early 70s, he played the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. After about 5-10 min. of tuning up, half the audience applauded. Ravi said gently: ''If you like the tuning up so much, I am sure you will like the concert even better..'''

He did that at the Concert for Bangladesh with George Harrison.
I grew up listening to this recording and later studied classical Indian dance and singing as part of my professional training. At some point, I no longer had the original LP of this recording, so I haven't heard it in many years. Listening again now connects who I have become as a performance artist with the child who was first mesmerized by these sounds and rhythms. Ravi Shankar will forever be part of what made me an artist. Thank you for posting this recording. It's one of his best and evokes the spirit of those decades beautifully.

I'm listening these Three Ragas from more than 10 years and I never, never, never felt bored. I'm always feeling that I discover something new in my heart, in my spirit every time. Is the first time in my almost 68 years old, when I'm listening, from so many years, suddenly 3-4 times daily this jewel of Indian music. These ragas helped me to go deeper on the spiritual path, to feel deeper The Vedanta path. I'm sure about the fact that, there, in the divine world, this Rishi named Ravi Shankar is protecting our souls.

I am really Blessed when I say I had the opportunity to watch Pandit Ravishankar Ji test sitar in the shop of Hiren Roy in Kolkata’s Rasbehari Avenue. His sitar was always carefully handcrafted by the master craftsman. It would be a typical Sunday morning around 9.30 or so. This of course before he migrated to USA, the year sometime early 60’s. Then of course I had the pleasure of listening to him along with Ustad Allaha Rakha & Ustad Ali Akbar at Shanmukhanand Hall in Mumbai.

Because of the colonisation we were ripped of from our roots and took everything back to the Europe. Hence Europeans enjoy everything at first hand. But the thing we all must see and know is, we may be ripped but we are everywhere. For good cause only. If u really fee blessed by this then do one thing- Call us Bharatians not Indians. If u do this then we would know that ur a true lover of our ancient music

In my life time I had the perfect honour and privilege to be present at a live concert in which our great pandit Ravi Shankar and his beautiful daughter Anoushka enabled us to enjoy the very spiritual journey which such music provokes. An event and a memory I will always hold as especially important and completely profound in my life experience. Thankyou master.. Namaste!

This was the first ever LP I bought as far back as in 1956/57. It was produced by EMI in the U.K. It remains in my collection even today. Enjoyed listening to it of hundred of times. Another uniqueness of this LP is that the Tabla sangat (accompaniment) is by Pt. Chatur Lal, who died during one of those early tour of Ravi Shankar of the United States.

Yes, same here.My mother bought this record in the US -Long Play in 1960 which I often listened to...It had a red centre and also had Raga Simhendra Madhyam . Whatever their minus points, hats off to the western world in cherishing and preserving our priceless culture. Unfortunately,we are like Donkeys carting Sandal wood and we are unable to appreciate the same.I remembering Ustad Zakir Hussain Ji was a guest at one Quiz contest by Derrick Brian for school children by Bournvita and he mentioned the song Naino me badra chaye from Mera Saaya and the raga Bhim palas. The students did not have the faintest idea about this while they were aware of everything else under the sun.. So sad... Incidentally Pt Chatur Lal's annual event is still being celebrated by I think his son.

YES- Bless the immortal Ravi Shankar - the consumate Indian musician. To me he invokes the urban countryside and it's myraid social history giving it immense dignity, energy and nobility. Such clarity, articulation and power is a rare thing in any art form.
