I agree that the lack of a dipstick is nuts, but I''ve found that I can get plenty of information on the oil by simply opening the oil filter unit up and inspecting the filter and oil. Look, owning a BMW comes down to being willing to educate yourself to doing most repairs by yourself. If you think you're going to take it to a dealer or a mechanic ever time you have a problem, don't buy one.

What about a 2010 BMW 528i? I def dont like the no oil stick thing. Im driving between vegas, utah arizona, and twice my 2001 Honda Civic just stopped running, as I climbed up a hill, didn't realize oil had gone down a quart from strain on engine I guess, which got real hot, even the shifter thing was real hot. Fortunately had some in the trunk, and it soldiered on. Sounds like this would be a worry?
@316Autos4 жыл бұрын
The dipstick is most definitely annoying, but if you're checking the oil regularly, it should be fine. Any modern DOHC engine will use a quart of oil every 3K miles. If you're going with the BMW, my advice is as always, stick with the manual transmission if you can. Also set aside some cash for repairs that will happen eventually.

They're pretty good cars. Every BMW is going to have oil leaks, and an eventual coolant leak, but as far as major problems go, they're few and far between. The automatics do have some issues, so check for slipping, but it's not something I would be overly concerned about.

these engines typically dont have piston ring issues til high mileage like 3 or 400k. the 3.0l gas is a pretty much bulletproof motor and comparable to the 2jz lmao. idk wtf u mean by money pit. timing chain guides are solid, n52 can handle 600hp easy, the top emd is quiet, they hold lots of oil about 6l and the oil light sensor comes on at about 2l low so not bad at all. also there is a temp guage lol, u just dont know how to find it
@316Autos2 жыл бұрын
I don't care if they rarely have ring issues or if the engine is bullet proof, and I don't care if the oil sensor lights comes on soon, a dipstick is non negotiable. Unless BMW is prepared to warranty that engine for life against oil starvation, it should come with a damned dipstick. Yeah, I said the NA 3.0L is a great engine outside of the oil leaks, it's the turbo that's the unreliable pile. If you have to find the temp gauge, it's in the wrong location. Put the glorified vacuum gauge in the hidden spot and give me the information that's actually useful front and center.

Cadillac was kind of the only player in the game in the luxury sports sedans. Lincoln tried with the LS, but it was fairly bland and short lived. Lexus and Mercedes were more about luxury than performance.Pretty much left Cadillac and Acura as the only competitors. Hell the CTS-V was designed to compete with the M3. Yeah, BMW can't build a V8 for shit, they should stick to what they know, and they know I6 engines. It's like that Nissan V8 Cummins diesel, stick to what you're known for.
