Another of many informative videos on not just making the tools but also demonstrating how they can be used. Cool video Donnie. My son is the one who showed me your videos about a year ago. Love seeing another person knapping.

The more I fulfill my experimental archeology projects, along with watching your videos, I understand just how many tools can be fabricated from a single rock. I think many of the thick, biscuit like preforms, had this idea in mind. You get down to the quality material, it's sturdy enough to travel, careful reduction would offer first use usable flakes (like you discuss here) then could be crafted into other tools. Anything from a blade to eventually becoming a small point. Thanks for another great video!

I couldn’t agree more. Weight is a factor when it comes to transportation of stone. Keep materials that are potentially tools through Knapping and you tool options are expansive, but few in numbers. Thanks for watching.

I saw that you commented on Jack Crafty's video the other day. It would be great to see you interview him and compare your traditional style to his modern style. Both styles are very important.

Definitely makes the vintage Arrowhead market a unsure playing field. I see one and think, probably a modern day made by old Donny Dust😂 so I just keep not buying ❤

Thanks, brother. Easy to grasp but a while to learn. Concoidial fracturing is the key. Angles of strikes, firmness of platforms. No?

Flint knapping looks easy if you do it. But isn't easy at all. It is an acquired art. Sunce there aren't any rocks in our soil, there are no stones to practice on in our country (the Netherlands)

Serration technology is truly ancient. Are there any indications that this is older or younger than the use of fire?
@DonnyDustsPaleoTracks
@DonnyDustsPaleoTracks Күн бұрын
Absolutely older than fire. Fire was likely collected from the landscape from lighting and then later it was crafted.

Appreciate you making the videos…have you tried red and or green jasper? It seems like I always find pieces too small to work with and the ones I’ve tried to work with were so solid it was near impossible to even chip some off…any suggestions? A previous video maybe?

I have only knapped fire Jasper. It’s pretty hard, but good platforms are the key to busting flakes. Thanks for watching!

Ah, this answers some questions I had when I watched your flintknapping videos. I was always confused as to why knap a blade from the stone core when you "created" dozens of good sharp flakes just from getting it to the desired shape. Did people used to make handles for the raw flakes too, like they did for the more well-crafted core knives? Or was it too much work for something that was more... disposable?

@DonnyDustsPaleoTracks
@DonnyDustsPaleoTracks Күн бұрын
Go for it! Use a synthetic to start off when tillering it out…then move to an all natural style. Sinew, intestinal cordage and rawhide are all great options!
