Thanks for posting this. I transitioned my dogs to a raw food diet about 4 to 6 months ago. Best decision I ever made. This lady hit it on the head with everything she said. I give my big dogs whole chicken quarters so they can chew it up. I've noticed a huge difference with their teeth and breath. The only dogs that I semi smash up the chicken for, are my small dogs. But, I don't over do it. I still have it to where they have to chew it up. The thing that I have had to learn is portion size. I have had to increase the portion size for my American Pitbull Terrier and my Yorkie mix. Both of them are super high energy and need more calories to burn. There is an Australian Vet that wrote a book on the B.A.R.F. diet, great read.

Same with mines. Started my pit like around 9/10 months. I’ve been giving him mainly a Leg quarter once a day, sometimes I give him a larger meal like I mix some organs like liver, kidney, a tiny bit of oats, eggs, grounded beef along with the leg quarter. Then I’ll skip a day of feeding him so I’ll train him and he’ll work for his food, but I love feeding him chicken over the dog kibble. He just gobbled and swallowed the kibble without chewing and left his teeth dirty and smelling.

Cooking food does kill bacteria though it’s unclear if that’s what she was implying? Like I get the quality is higher at the grocer but that doesn’t mean we should eat raw steak and feel safe. It’s the mass production that makes it dangerous not the individual cows or smaller farms (which are disappearing). The reason dogs can eat raw meat is because they have evolved defenses like extremely powerful stomach acid to kill the bacteria. Humans do not have this defense.
@davidb1975a5 жыл бұрын
Plus, animals have a shorter digestive track and they have some of these "harmful" bacteria as part of their gut flora. I am sure at one point humans had a lot more different bacteria strains in their gut flora. We weren't always cooking foods. From my perspective, we as humans have ruined our immune system and our digestive system over the years.
@marcusj86235 жыл бұрын
Humans can easily eat raw meat and have done so forever. People are just brainwashed into thinking it's not safe. Mostly because grocery stores and butchers have unsafe meat. Go to a farm with healthy cows that eat their natural diet without steroids and supplements and the liver tastes amazing raw even for a human. Get liver from the grocery store or butcher and you basically taste the toxins and bitterness. That's also why a lot of dogs don't want to eat liver because their owner gives them liver from unhealthy cows. It's the same when you get tired quick when you eat cooked grocery store meat. If you eat raw meat from a healthy cow you have energy for days.

I love this video. I’ve been talking to my wife about switching my 12 year old mini dachshund to a raw diet bc her hair looks dull and she has very mild skin allergies. I’m afraid that she may be too old, though. Of course, our vet friend totally says no and is against it. Also, I’ve been a subscriber for some time now, a few years. I don’t get notifications on your videos being uploaded. It’s almost like KZbin has curated my subscriptions. Even if I go back and make sure to re-subscribe again, it doesn’t notify me. You may want to look into that.

Don't listen to your vet "friend". They are so friendly because they only write prescriptions for vaccines and drugs, making your beloved pet sicker, and you give them all that money for doing it. Vets are the worst enemy of dogs, after bad diet, and lack of exercise and love...

@Dee-ye2dk5 жыл бұрын
Your response proves my original statement. Dogs are true omnivores, you add plants to their diet in order to balance out the gut bacteria. Are they built to consume meat, yes. But long term, an omnivore diet is best for them.
@Poteluz5 жыл бұрын
@@Dee-ye2dk they're carnivores, their diet is 95% percent meat and can actually be 100% meat and they'll thrive. They scavenge and will eat berries, fruits, and vegetables, and greens from the digestive tract of the prey but they're not actually omnivores perse.

@Poteluz5 жыл бұрын
@counselthyself you're right, I have a Mastiff and I give it beef ribs and it breaks through the bones and digests it, all depends on the size of the dogs. I wouldn't give a medium or small dog beef ribs as it wouldn't be natural for them to eat that.

I’m very interested in this topic. I feed my dogs a homemade diet but I switched from raw to cooked on the advice of my vet. And he doesn’t want the dogs to eat bones at all. We started crushing raw chicken bones for them, but as Sylvia says, they lose the chance to chew.

How much raw do you feed say a 100# German Shepherd a day? And I've already been told they can't eat chicken bone. Now I've seen took many breeders feed raw chicken. Now i need to go to the meat Dept and get some tripe and bone with marrow for my gsd/ lab I adopted from the rescue group. If anyone has a guess on how much to feed a 80-100# dog, please let me know. as necessity dictates, yes. but not by choice, they are opportunistic which means taking in a variety of sources to meet caloric demands. but all things being equal I invite you to place in front of a wild canine a freshly killed prey as well as a potato / salad / corn on the cob and enjoy watching which item the canine goes for. every. single. time.

Ruined ears and tail, so glad you won't see schnauzers like that in northern Europe. Good video though, I know some dogs that just can't get used to raw stomach wise. After a month of diarrhea it's better to stay in kibble, otherwise raw with some greens.

I keep seeing "dogs are omnivores" they get plant matter from the prey animals intestines as the prey animals eat plant matter. Or just use tripe? Dogs do eat grass when they feel Ill and that's about it, dogs do not go and search for grazing matter and browsing 🤦🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️. Yes they can eat certain fruits and veggies but it doesn't need to be 50% of their diet, they can happily live and thrive without it
@arkhamknightwing59065 жыл бұрын
They only eat grass to vomit stuff out or quickly pass it though their stool cause their digestive system knows that they shouldn't eat it. It's like us eating something that makes us vomit. So I wouldn't classify as omnivorous. The plant matter from their prey are partially digested and already contain the enzymes from the pray animal's gut to digest some of the matter. Any remaining undigested plant matter is normally churned up and evacuated though watery stool.
