I have long admired Timpone surfboards. Having lived in San Diego my entire life and selling surfboards for 55 years I've had a chance to see occasional boards come down my way. All have had a crisp and refined shape with a quality of build which is top notch. Pretty sure he's been on Maui for many many years so the boards are not easy to come by so IF you get and to ride one or better yet purchase one you should jump on it! Bird's Surf SHED certified and approved✌

Wow, Bird huge Mahalo! Thank you for the vote of confidence. Appreciate the kind words, you know more than most people the quality standards of boards through the decades. was tripping when i saw all the glass going on the bottom then when u flipped the board made sense .. glassed for yrs at Ocean works and for Bill Barnfield @ Raging isle in Haleiwa , i always wrapped my rails full single bottom double top that way u get 3 layers of glass on the rail .. eggshell theory 35-40% less breakage weight isn't even noticeable .. watching this gave me that warm an fuzzy feeling u get walking into the laminating room lol . makes me want to build a board
@TimponehawaiiАй бұрын
Very cool brother! We also utilize the "eggshell" method as you call it, very strong rails/boards. This board specifically is a Tow board so extra glass bottom and deck (5-6 rail wraps, tapered). stoked to get your board building juices flowing 🤙

When I was 14 I tried to make a surf board. Bought a book and all the shaping and lay up supplies. It did not turn out very good. That was in the mid 70's.
@TimponehawaiiАй бұрын
Love that! that is exactly how many of the veteran board builders learned at that time. Did you get a chance to ride it??
@Erik-rp1hiАй бұрын
@@Timponehawaii A little. I remove to much foam in the front and the resin started kicking off early so had too much resin for the amount of glass. Put it away after half dozen trips to the beach. So Ca. Redondo beach. My friends did rock break of Palos Verdes but never into the sport that far. My thing was dirt bike riding. About 7 years ago when to Kaui and rode 2 days on dirt by a company called Moto Hawaii. That was fun. Hawaiian Ice for the dirt following the "Powerline rd." bisecting the island. Very slippery.

I personally prefer THALCO Squeegees, those cheap Yellow ones have sharp edges, that can mark and twist the fibers. Nice video any way…,
@jackcirrito3458Ай бұрын
I always used Thalco squeegees too……. And cut and thinned it down so I could bend it around the rail somewhat. I’ve noticed a lot of the videos lately with guys using something similar to a bondo spreader. I can think of a couple reasons why they may have some advantages. The sharper harder edge would make it easier to get the air out and pull the cloth tight for light glass jobs. Also that would require way less pressure than the Thalco. He was having no trouble catching edges. Nice video
@TimponehawaiiАй бұрын
Thank you, yup I just learned with the "cheap yellow" squeegees. Feel very comfortable using them. I have a Thalco but haven't even used it lol. I definitely should use it as it seems to be the choice tool of experienced laminators like yourself.

@TimponehawaiiАй бұрын
Yes would rather have more resin than not enough! Saturating multiple layers of 6oz over color, I don't want dry patches/bubbles. Guestimating exactly how much resin you will need is not a perfect science. Sometimes you end up with more than you need, but again would rather have more than less.

Don't you check the newly installed fins angle? You just used a piece of cardboard. That's not precise.
@TimponehawaiiАй бұрын
its actually a 6 degree jig we use to measure the fin angle and adjust as needed. once the fins are set they should not change angle.

Who cares what degree it is. They used to steer with their foot. Dang nice job.

These young guys are wasteful and lazy as hell. If they were buying the resin and working per diem, I promise they would be a whole lot more conservative with product. Go watch Jack Reeves, now that’s a glasser and fine businessman!

Yes Reeves is a master! He's been doing it for 150 yrs! In the video description we explain we're laminating 3 layer of 6oz cloth, so we need more resin than normal for full saturation 👍
