​@donkey3187 because we're so used to how controlled things are on TV, so when something goes wrong, it catches us off guard. Unexpected things can cause anxiety due to fear of the unknown. Potential thoughts can involve things like you're watching people live in danger, and there is nothing you can do to help them. If the professionals are in trouble, where does that leave me? Am I about to watch someone on my local station that I see every morning die? Of course, I live in an area that has had tornado warnings twice within my 24 year lifetime so I can't say much from experience. Take what I say with a grain of salt.

you always kinda think of them as not there? like you just usually see the studio, it's like a disconnect from reality, it's like peering into another world, so when a local event like a tornado or hurricane hits news channels, you just kinda snap back into the realisation that they are just as much there as you are.

Was storming all night, we'd lost power, family was sitting around the weather radio (didn't have smartphones back then lol) and we hear them start leaving the room to take shelter.
