He was erroneously nominated as a lead actor at the Emmys because “Outstanding Supporting Actor” only had 7 nominees (5 of whom were from The Normal Heart) and “Outstanding Supporting Actor” needed a 6th. It’s the same reason February gets the “bonus day” every 4 years.

IMO Thornton is one of the most underrated and underutilized assets in Hollywood today. However, I am glad for it. He wouldn't be quite the special treasure he is if he was cast in everything, like Hanks or Cruise.

Such a talent, this is some of his best work in years, what other actor can take a character on a TV show and make it feel like you know that character but at the same time you don't and it feels a much deeper connection to the character than any other TV series will produce, it's almost like a connection to a character in a major motion picture, and yes he is that talented, it simply astounds me how electrifying his performances are in the show, tension for weeks

i never liked him until Fargo, I think he was waiting for an opportunity like this. His voic, tone, persona even watching this interview was strangely still Malvo-esque. Now I can honestly say he's made a fan out of me because just his reaction shots are gold and his manipulative ability is unlike any I've seen on tv or otherwise. Hope he gets more suitable roles like this in the future.

He really is a great actor, Ive noticed with these small runs of a series they are able to bring in actors that normally would not do a TV show. I also find that these 10 episode series have much better acting in them than many movies or full run TV shows. . I suppose because the actor can get immersed in a character and enjoy it before they become bored with it.
