Ya that will be horrible. I live in southeast Louisiana and the humidity is so oppressive after it rains. However, this summer has been very dry. I think we had one 30 minute storm in about a 2 month period. Yesterday and today was the first real rain we have had all summer. I went from having to mow the grass every other day during a normal summer, to not mowing in about 2 months because there wasn't enough rain to keep the grass alive

@CaptainAmaziiing Жыл бұрын
I used to work for the setup/ teardown crew, and this is actually pretty serious. If it doesn't dry out pretty quick this will turn into a genuine humanitarian crisis. As it is there is no porta potty cleaning, and they require 24/7 pumping. Dysentery is still a thing with no hygiene. There is no ice delivery, so everyone's coolers are warming, and food spoils fast in the desert, and people didn't plan to stay past Monday. Driving is simply not an option, the mud sticks to your tires so thick and heavy they no longer fit in your wheel wells or gain any traction. 75,000 people will need to be evacuated on foot to the pavement over a mile away, and buses will need to be chartered to drive everyone to Reno, the nearest city with an airport and infrastructure. Meanwhile, critical supplies will need to be shuttled in the same way. Cars and camps will be abandoned by necessity. If it doesn't dry out soon, Burning Man is in dire trouble, both the people there, and the event as a whole. Nevada, and insurers, will refuse to permit it again if it goes too badly.

Too funny. When you are environmental activist and you have managed to piss off the Native Americans, you might want to rethink your position.......just sayin'....

Those climate protesters could have been a sign that God wanted these guys to turn back. Not all road blocks, and trouble is bad. Some are for our good. Even when we reject, and are not faithful to God, He continues to be faithful to us. When He sends a warning, you must be willing to listen, recognize it and heed it. I'm praying these guys will make it out safely.

Many warnings! Mother Nature is relentless and does not negotiate… I saw those protesters in the beginning and thought there was more there than what was going on. I felt bad for them. And now on the other side, nature has spoken.

Damn! I hope nobody dies or is seriously hurt and trapped in that mess. I have a friend there who is too old to easily cope with something like this and I'm worried for her safety. I must say - I found some of the comments posted here to be disgusting and awash with a callous disregard for the welfare of people who've done nothing to them that would warrant such mean minded arrogance.

@@diamondsandhenna I think you underestimate the goodness in people. Besides, it's not like they're on an island in the middle of the ocean. It would be easy to get supplies to them if needed, we have a national guard that specializes in things like that. lol

There couldn't have been karma any more appropriate than a climate disaster at Burning Man after no one heeded the warnings of the Climate Protesters prior to the event. They were warned of climate change, but ignored the warnings and went anyway. Climate disaster happens and now they can't leave. Oh the sweet sweet irony and poetic justice.

It’s just normal weather in the desert. I grew up in the desert and we always had a rainstorm or two in the summer. Once we were swimming and there was lightning. Thank goodness we didn’t get struck by it A few times we had hail. That was fun getting buckets and catching them We liked going outside in the rain bc it didn’t rain much during the year, besides in April and sometimes in December or January when there was El Nino or La Niña

Thank God my daughter is married to a military man, and he got her out of there with quickness yesterday at about 3:00 PM. When she called me, she was crying from relief. Too many people out there. They were married there at Burning Man (it's a thing) in 2019, and they went to celebrate his 20-year retirement from the Coast Guard. I always love the videos, but I'm a baby about those extreme elements. I hope they still enjoy themselves.

Lived in Gerlach early 70's working for Western Pacific Railroad. If we got the slightest hint of rain on the lake beds we would literally race to get off the lake beds. No bueno. BTW, it was never "the playa". If you got stuck out there that was the end of your rig and belongings. Best of luck to all, it's not over by a long shot.
