A BART train derailed and caught fire near the Orinda station Monday morning, forcing passengers to evacuate the train in an incident causing major delays on the system.

48 hours prior, I was on that route taking the Yellow Line from SFO to Walnut Creek. This is a very rare event.

I rode BART for more than 20 years when I lived in the bay area and don't remember ever hearing about a derailment. What kind of people are they hiring now a days for maintenance? Or did some homeless criminal intentionally damage the tracks?

I don’t remember BART ever derailing and I’ve lived in the Bay Area since 1982.

A quick google shows there have been derailments in 1992, 2006, 2009, 2011, 2019 & 2022, there may have been more I just don't feel like doing too deep of a dive considering most Google results are showing this Shit happens.

obviously this wreck happened due to fare evasion, dont fix the track, put in taller gates at the stations and work harder to villainize your entire ridership while you let the track decompose

There was a significant fire not captured in this video, however you're likely correct that it was probably a result of one or more train cars' undercarriage shorting across the third rail.
