Not even a year later, my re-manufactured steering rack goes bad :/ The issue isn't it being re-manufactured, the issue was me :D

I feel your pain. My rack replacement has been a monster on my 2003 Wrx wagon. Subaru had some evil mad scientist design this setup. Had to remove the factory useless U-frame that is apparently for US crash standards and isn’t even equipped on JDM models. Once that was off 3 days of cussing and not getting the new rack in was finally a victory. I think steering is one of the worst trouble shoots on a car by far. Hope mine holds the rest of time bc I don’t feel like doing round two anytime soon!

Yea mines make noise after a remanned factory one don’t wanna do round too it’s just waste of time and money hopefully my car doesn’t get messed up

If the rack & pinion fails again, it would mean your hydraulic pump is the culprit that causes the rack & pinion to fail. I learnt that after changing mine 3 times
@Rawrkee3 жыл бұрын
damnnn, I was considering changing mine again but the issue is a leak that I can't really pinpoint. its either coming from the driver side boot or one of two power steering lines

If you do the steering rack yourself, plan on getting an alignment right afterward because any adjustment to the outer tie rods will require an alignment. Even if you swap your old tie rods onto the new rack you purchased, one side might be too short or extended too far. Plus you'll have to make sure that your steering wheel is straight as you're installing the new rack but more than likely, when you get an alignment, it'll be corrected. Those are the only import things you should keep in mind. Its up to you if you want to pay extra and have a mechanic do it. If you're pretty comfortable with working on your own car, you'll find that it isn't a difficult job. Another thing, you'll have to bleed the powersteering system

I hit a big pothole HARD the other night and my steering wheel goes all the way around when i turn and back up into my parking spot. I got a mobile mechanic coming in a week to see whats wrong. I too hope it isn't anything major like a whole suspension system. Nothing we can do tho.. We gotta have our cars to drive. I wish you all the best in your move to Texas.

@Rawrkee3 жыл бұрын
Thanks man, hopefully you just need to replace the hoses. If you can make sure that the leak is coming from where the hose is connected to the pump, you can probably use a zip tie to tighten down the hose to temporarily fix the issue
@mickaylia91233 жыл бұрын
Hey I’m currently having the same prob. I too ran over a bump and now my steering wheel acting up meaning it’s loose, I’m hearing a clicking sound and it’s somewhat hard to turn. I have a 2015 Nissan Altima, would this be the same prob? Caz I went to a local auto shop and they said the steering coupler wants to change but I have to be mindful as well caz they could be lying to charge me more because I’m a girl.
@Rawrkee3 жыл бұрын
There’s a few tests you can do yourself if you’re hands on with your car but if not, hittup another mechanic to see if he says the same thing. If you’re issue is just like mine in the video, where turning the steering all the way to one side doesn’t turn your wheel all the way, then it could be the steering rack but there’s def a number of things that could be the issue

My car is doing the same thing but only when I turn but my steering wheel is not stuck upside down does that mean I need one for my fiat?
@Rawrkee Жыл бұрын
The Steering Rack is the issue when you notice that your wheels are not turning as far as they usually would when turning your steering wheel. Mine was very subtle at first but over time that was when I could visually see that my steering wheel no longer lined up. So if you notice that when you're turning and your car doesnt turn as sharp as it used to, its a good indicator that the steering rack is going bad. Good luck with figuring out the issue!

Bro if you want to be safe replace the bolts with SAE bolts you can get from Threads of The South they specialize in SAE bolts. Homey Depot and Lowe’s type bolts don’t have the strength to keep up with the stresses that your rack will put on it. Chances are AutoZone O’Riellys or Advance might even have them also. You seem like a cool dude I’d hate you get into an accident for a $3-4 dollar bolt. Anyway good luck homey✨
@Rawrkee3 жыл бұрын
AH deng, thanks for the info bro! I didn't realize that Home Depot and Lowes had lower quality bolts
@enegron69873 жыл бұрын
@@Rawrkee it’s not so much that their quality of bolts suck it’s just that you want to recognize early when dealing with automotive, sae parts are engineered for the stresses and vibrations that come from on the road driving especially if you’re making moves that require split second timing for hairpin maneuvers. You definitely want to know you’re bolts aren’t gonna be sheered off with the actual turn lol good blessings bro
@mycardiy4 жыл бұрын
Good stuff man! Get those bolts and get that rack and pinion nice and tight. Congrats on completing your probation and making the life move! Best of luck in the new state.
