Late 1970s ITV schools junction into "Seeing and Doing". This tape was very sticky but I managed to get it to play reasonably well after several attempts.

The calm music with the painting of violent scene from the battle of Waterloo is a curious juxtaposition.

The Clock and Seeing and Doing titles I can just remember was 6 years but can just recall that, they changed the clock in January 1979

If the sleeve notes on Watch With Teacher are accurate, it's from summer 1977 - the interval music is "Passing Time" followed by "Handelian Harp", both by David Snell

I remember this version of the countdown from before I went to school when that was the only thing on TV in the mornings apart from Play School. Why did it get redesigned to the one with the Schools blurb in the centre, the programme at the bottom and no perimeter to the dots? Five year old me in 1979 was always waiting for the day that it would change back.

I remember these 1970s Seeing and Doing titles from watching it at school in 1986/87 so some of the 1970s episodes were still being shown in 1986

Although I don't remember this actual tune I do remember these kinds of test images, especially in the half terms, and of course I remember the clock, the 70's was a great time to be a child with these unpatronising, unaware TV shows, just listen to that music and check the dramatic fine art they've chosen,but yes, I suppose being a Child is great at any time

I remember "Passing Time" by David Snell. It was used on "Rub-a-dub Tub" on TV-am in the mid-80s as a man was doing arts and crafts.

Indeed. I'd come back here to say what SiCo just said - that the listings had the David Snell music being used in spring 1977, but different music listed for spring 1978. So it seems as though this is just about 35 years old.

@CaptainSiCo I had no idea that Seeing and Doing epiodes with these titles were being shown as late as 1985. The titles I remember are the classic "wooden block" titles with the "Tom He Was A Piper's Son" theme and I also vaguely remember later titles with a rather bland-sounding theme.

@soulAdequate Actually, I've checked the WWT listings, which actually list those two tracks as Spring 1977. And most of their listings seem to correspond well to footage I've seen - so I now believe this is Spring 1977.

I get the feeling that the programme ending at the start of the clip may have been a Thames local programme, due to what appears to be a 'sync-jump' (often seen when rejoining network) at the start of the junction at 00:09.

@soulAdequate There are known errors in the Watch with Teacher information, and this appears to be one of them. Neither It's Life nor It's More Life were shown in the summer of 77, nor 78 - so I think Robin is right. Spring 1978 or, at a push, Spring 1977, and the junction is a Thursday at 11.20-11.22.

Anyone know who is singing the Seeing and Doing theme tune? I thought it may have been Toni and Dave Arthur, but I’m told it isn’t - it’s actually a pop/folk group who had hits in the 70s, but I forget their name.

must admit I luv the music

This is fantastic! A new piece of archive schools continuity - I'm guessing from the music used this may have been Summer 1978 (These tracks were also used in Summer 1980, but the clock had changed by then). Great to see those rare Seeing and Doing titles - what a shame the tape cuts out before they finish! I remember episodes with these titles were still being repeated in 1985! Do you have any more footage from that tape?

Dose anyone know off the theme that came before this one? I remember it very well but don't know it's name. The graphics consisted of an abacus with pictures of animals letters and numbers spinning around before spelling out "Seeing and Doing."
@RobinCarmody13 жыл бұрын
This is slightly earlier than claimed. I think the programme ending at the start here is 'It's More Life', which was produced in late 1976 for first tx in early 77 - the predecessor series 'It's Life' went out in early 76, but the edition I have has a 1975 copyright date. 'It's More Life' preceded 'Seeing and Doing' on Thursdays in spring 77 & 78, and I suspect this is the latter term - assuming the tape ran out before any sign of the S&D episode title, do you know which edition of IML this was?
