I bought a pair in the US. My cousin brought them to me in Korea. I did the setup, disabled location sharing and used VPN. I have full function of the AI and also the early access program. I think the trick is turning off the location sharing permission.

Agreed on the horizontal video and the time limit, both need to be addressed asap for this to take off. On the a.i., I just got the new update today, and still can't figure out how to translate text, etc. General info like weather and trivia are fine, and the audio is nice. For folks who do want these, I'd definitely suggest the transitions even if it's more money, as you will want to record in different environments. Otherwise, the video and photo clarity is quite nice and convenient. If you have something quick to show off on social media, it's fine, but otherwise some very simple editing on your smartphone will suffice.

Just did a quick search. Only $300. Hmmm. A year ago I bought Ray Ban frames for my daily glasses for similar costs. Wow, I didn't expect them to be this affordable. I had even asked about the Ray Ban Meta's last week in my annual eye doctor appointment. Had she told me they were $300 I would have bought them right then and there. Will be keeping an eye on these for sure. Sadly, just ordered new lenes for current Ray Ban frames (which may or may not fit the meta ones) so will have to wait and year and then decide. What I really like is that I wear glasses as near sighted. As such, this technology could be seamless. Would love it to reach a point where it could replace my cell phone as I like to keep minimal stuff on me when out.

AI on RayBan Meta in the UK! I connected to AI in the UK this evening, I noticed there was an IOS update for the Meta App that I downloaded, what was interesting was that it then offered the 'early access' options, also in settings (cog bottom right) on the main App page, if you click on that just below halfway down on the settings page between Glasses update and WiFi options was 'EARLY ACCESS' if you go into that it has an option to try out AI on the glasses, you have to accept a few conditions but now I can look at a plant and ask what to is and get an answer, check the weather and lot's of other cool stuff. I did have my Bitdefender VPN on but don't believe it was on for the download update, however I have just turned it off USA and back to the UK and the glasses still work with AI. Hope it helps someone! Also make sure you have downloaded the NEW v2.1 firmware update, go to the App, then settings, then glasses & privacy (top option), then your glasses, then updates, your device MUST be connected to the glasses via bluetooth for this to be active! Now update!

I made a prototype from some Chinese glasses with a camera and I have managed to control them without touching them or saying a single word. What's more, you can look at me with them on and I'll give you $100 if you guess when l'm taking photos or videos of you. I am doing some things to get a superior prototype and launch them on the market through crowdfunding, but I am going slowly since I have never launched any other product. The control system using cephalic-facial gestures can be incorporated into any glasses, including Ray-Ban | Goal. The sensors that I incorporate are 3 and they do not consume any additional energy to function, in addition, I also made a system for them to charge them while you use them without it being noticed and it has turned out as I expected. The glasses still look identical, you don't notice anything additional when you wear them.

@@PatrickRambles Yes, I know, but I think the responsibility will always fall on the user, since the person is responsible for using it for better or worse. For example, in tasks where both hands are used, it can be very efficient to record intervals and save battery consumption.

They definitely need to remove the 60 second record limit and allow horizontal video. I'm not sure if the cost of the glasses is due to data collection though. The cost of regular frames is basically just demand driven but the cost to produce them (excluding the tech in these) is the same as a cheap pair of frames. They might not be making a ton of money off of the glasses, but they are gaining a following/market share.

60 seconds of recording would be a hyperlapse of one second, so that doesn't work on a device like this. Definitely still plenty of flaws on these, can't wait to see the next gens.

Hey! No they don't get hot and they done feel heavier than regular sunglasses. The issue would probably be more about battery life. They last about 2 hours if you film a lot, so you'd have to take them off to charge.

Guys depending on your vision insurance with your job, you can actually get these much cheaper then retail. I was able to get my meta shades for 170.00 with my vision insurance.

I'm tempted to get the transitions + prescription but I've heard the transitions don't transition well into sunglasses when in modern cars as the windshield blocks out the sun already...Also I read somewhere that transition glasses are not recommended to wear at night (but if I need them to drive at night as part of my prescription)... I heard the multimodal VPN hack can work if you use a VPN to download the app...Is that what you tried unsuccessfully? I went to the Ray Ban store here in France and they quoted me at €718 for transition + prescription lenses. Luckily my insurance called me yesterday to cover €420 so they'll come in at €298 which has convinced me to give them a shot. That said, I'm legit disappointed that 1) the low-lighting camera capabilities stink. 2) there really ought to be a landscape option because cropping these will just suck -- hopefully like you said they'll unblock that like the 60-second recording limit.

Releasing a horizontal field of view update might sell a few more pairs of glasses but those customers would mostly be getting it to develop content for the enemy: KZbin. We all know what an angry little man Zuck is so I won't be holding my breath for this update. I gritted my teeth and bought one anyway. I'm planning to just try and stitch together sixty second clips to create youtube content. Even 90 seconds would be a big improvement. I can't see it being something the tiktok crowd would want though. Depending on the sensor and optics that were installed it may not be possible to get a more serviceable horizontal field of view. Maybe the product will become popular enough to attract firmware hackers to make it into something that we want rather than something that facebook wants for data collection etc...

Not meant to be a personal stab. Just a general point. Good video. Your final statement freaked me out for 1 seccond untill I put 1 second of thought in to it, having just picked up my pair. Reality is I'm sure you a smart guy and know plenty about marketing and that our phones never stop collecting intrusive amounts of data, ever. The seccond thought I had was this smart guy got me to comment based on that final untrue statement , when I had zero intent in doing so. But man am I glad I got the transitioning lenses after you making the point of feeling like a tool, because I almost sacrificed that luxury for the extra hundred bucks. Now I won't look like a tool inside which is where I intend to use them for streaming. Curious where these firmware upgrades can go. Thanks for opportunity to share my enlighteness. 🎉hope it helped

We don't care about data collection ... until we do. Meta betrayed its users in the US during the 2016 election (Cambridge Analytica, Steve Banon data harvesting, etc.) and that played a role in the problems we're having now. It all adds up. But right now, things are subdued and once again, we don't care.

Great video! I’ve had these for about 2 months and I got them just for the camera function. Unfortunately, there’s no way (that I can see) to turn off the speaker/smart functionality that keeps pairing with my car stereo system so when I play a song in the car it comes out of my glasses. For that reason, I keep having to turn them off when I’m driving and on again when I get done. I also don’t want another smart assistant. Siri is more than enough for me.

@TheRealFreznoBob the big difference is that you are very much aware you're being filmed at at ATM and a Ring camera can be identified easily as such. People have a right to know they're being filmed, why would you want to do it secretly?

@@PatrickRambles Cherry picker is what you are. Cameras are everywhere and they don't identify themselves. On a two minute walk downtown you will end up on fifteen cameras that are filming you for their own reasons. Do you believe my intentions are more nefarious than theirs simply because I am a private citizen with a camera and they are company owned cameras? Or do you believe that I do not have the same rights as those other cameras? Why does RayBan think their customers are creeps that the public need to be protected from? Why can I not covertly record in public when everyone else can? Really, I'm asking you.
