Ray & Carla, Isle of Man, Kirk Michael Mines

A lovely walk through the past following the steps of the Barker family and their walk to the mines looking for treasure, pushing the family pram, and the adventures they enjoyed while their father dug for lead and silver in the spoil hills left by the old miners of the 1870's. We walked the path with the dogs, whilst chatting as we ambled, music by Mactullagh Vannin, Photos by Chris Killip with other pictures and video by both of us. It was a lovely day and at times we were both actually back in the 1960's. Ray & Carla

Really enjoyed taking this walk with you which brought back many happy memories. Coincidentally, the last time I walked up there I was in the company of Kenny Barker and Andy Quine around 1977. We took that route and then climbed the steep slope to the top of Slieau Freoaghane. Thanks to you and for Gerrys input to this fascinating story. I knew the Barker family well and spent many happy hours in their home in Kirk Michael. Charlie and Rita were always busy and on the go but always very welcoming when I called round. I feel very fortunate to have known the Barker family and to have so many happy memories of them. I admit, I spend too much time watching stuff on my phone sometimes but this was the best 58 minutes I’ve seen in a very long time. Thanks so much for putting this together and for sharing.

Any books or websites detailing all our Manx mines? Also is the path upto Corrany mines Private? great video btw!

You can access lots of information online to do with mines also am sure theirs books too. Google may be the answer. Thanks for your comment.
