I saw the film when I was 29. When I heard Ray Charles, the hair on my arms would stand up and I'd cry. I'll never forget that scene. They bring him a jump seat to help him get off the train. A great movie for great actors.

This was the real civil rights show of all time which brought America together. I was electrified when I first saw it as a white boy from up north who would never have dared, and still wouldn't, cross Mississippi. They don't want us. And yet I know a swarthy Jordanian fellow who went to and graduated from MS State and the people were lovely to him, invited them into their homes for Thanksgiving and Christmas to share.

Hard to believe it was 50 years ago when this song came out. I was 15 years old and I remember my Mom would play this. I too fell in love with this masterpiece. Ray Charles and the backup singers ( Raylettes?) were just too excellent. The instruments and that leading sax were ....wow!

I was born in’68, a year after the movie, but still saw the way things were, and I even saw and cried a few of those aforementioned tears growing up. Growing up after my father was deceased lent one to sharing in on some sorrows, but I made it all the same, even after I lost my mother 33 years later.

I spent 30 years hoping I would get thus music that I'd heard when I saw the movie. I made a few enquiries but drew a blank. Then in New York City I finally got it on a 4 CD box set. This is stupendous song. Great words.....not just blues clicjes "I'm feeling motherless somehow" What a great way to put it 5 star song sung brilliantly by Ray Charles

Everything is great about this song and the movie it was the theme for. I think the movie might have even contributed to changing the law in the US; at the time it was groundbreaking. The scene where Poitier slaps the rich white guy back - monumental. The acting and the song interweave in my memory as one of the most unforgettable productions ever.

I saw the movie for Ray Charles but, once in the room I appreciated the film and the actors. Unforgetable. This film takes on its full meaning today: it was the "Black Lives Matter" of the 60's. Thanks to Ray Charles and Sidney Poitier.
