Gary this was the most hyper you've been. Please start meditating---it will totally help. It felt like you wanted to impress him or something, so you kept saying "I know...I know.." But he is talking to us really ---the audience. He also was clearly getting stressed esp. early in interview. Too much coffee- ---does that to me- for me lol too much coffee is 1.5 cups- I become a maniac!

Just look at the difference when Tim Ferriss (two Rs and two Ss) called... he waited, he listened, he stayed calm. No need to interject, to make noises, to say "yes" every two seconds. Gary likes negative feedback, so he must be loving this. Btw, liking negative feedback makes sense but it's also a compensation mechanism for when all you get is negative feedback. You have to love it so you don't hate yourself.

True. Lewis at least asks great questions and also listens fully. It seemed Gary was always thinking about the next thing to say or putting in his 2¢ asap. I love Gary and have followed him for a few years now, but in this particular interview, he interrupted so much with someone who had so much value to bring. I feel a lot was left unsaid with Ray's responses. Half of his intriguing responses were cut off and some he didn't get to finish his thoughts with. I can say his book "Principles" is fantastic so far. Overall, good interview. Ray's question at the end was fantastic. 🔥🔥🔥

Arno Cuevas And that's exactly where he should correct his action. Yea in certain things you shouldn't give a fuck whether someone is billionaire or not. But in this particular case, Gary SHOULD treat the billionaire differently because he MIGHT LEARN something from him. By treating Ray The Freaking Dalio like nobody, he purposedly SHUT EVERY OPPORTUNITY HE HAD TO ACTUALLY LEARN SOMETHING FROM HIM. In this interview, he was a full glass instead of half-full glass. And even if he thinks he's right, he should shut the fuck up and let us, the real audience, learn something from Ray Dalio.
@kylewithfocus7 жыл бұрын
Damn, that was painful to listen to at times. It was like Gary was going for some kind of record of interjecting into someone else's thoughts. There were several times during the interview that Ray was getting into some good shit and every two seconds Gary was jumping in with some shit like, "Yeah" or "I understand". Ray even acknowledged this a few times by replying, "I know you understand" but he wasn't trying to get the point across to Gary, he was trying to get the point across to the people consuming this content. I love you Gary but for someone that preaches so much about emotional intelligence and self-awareness, I'd expect a bit willingness to listen to someone and let them complete a thought before interjecting with something.

Gary is without a doubt THE thought leader for social media, but it's beyond tolerable with how much Gary runs roughshod over Ray in this video. I listened to the podcast up to 32:00 until I couldn't take anymore of Gary interrupting Ray with "I understand! 100%. 100%, I understand. Do you think..." I thought maybe the video would add more context and that I would visually see a connection that I was missing in audio only. But I got to 42:00, and after Ray said, "Ok, let me tell you about me..." and Gary can't even let Ray finish his own story about himself in school. I'm sorry, I just can't. I hope Gary reads these comments and understands how he squandered a great resource with Ray and pissed away an opportunity to learn and let the audience be exposed to new viewpoints. And Gary, you are way outside your lane when it comes to the topic of mediation. Stating you are in a constant state of meditation is like me stating that I can change the tire on my car while bench pressing to failure. It's cringeworthy embarrassing. You tried mediation once or twice and you feel like it didn't add any value? What would you say to me if I said that I ran two Facebook ads and my revenue is still the same YoY, so fuck Facebook ads, it doesn't work. Wouldn't I sound like a guy who doesn't get it and is missing out on huge opportunity? That's how you sound to people who mediate.

I guess you really nailed your, “forced negative feedback” with this one GV!Goodness, I literally cringed the entire interview. “I know, I know, I know, I understand, I understand.” or “I might not even read the book!!!” Not letting Ray finish his thoughts, even when he was politely telling your to zip it so he could explain at certain points. It’s so rude & a huge play of trying to take the alpha frame back every time. Don’t look at my guest or any value he has to offer. Since I managed to let him speak two sentences, I want you to shift your attention to me and how all my content relates so eloquently with that, the reason I’ve been ‘right’. Yay 🎉. I enjoy so much of your content, but this was one atrocious interview.
@clubgel7 жыл бұрын
yep totally agree. The reason is quite obvious to the trained eye (i'm a clinical pyschologist), gary is hardcore solid as rock entrepreneur execution wise. To the trained eye although a really top guy he is really insecure you can see it a mile off. Maybe from childhood he wasn't the alpha popular guy so he had to overcompensate as the really talented business beta male that now has the veil of sure as rock hardcore alpha. That's why when he gets top player bigger and ahead then himself his insecurities show though, he is like "i am elite aswell etc" He is not comfortable in his own skin deep down, thats why lot of his personal brand is actually approval seeking, to be like yes i am talented, special etc. thats why he likes giving the same talks over and over where people view him as like a demi-god in person and hang on his every word, but on the surface looks like the most sure person ever. Its the same with cardone etc all these lower level guys its about ego, being known, people wanting selfies with them in street etc. You don't see the elite like Bezos, Kevin Plank etc. running around getting their ego feed like this, they just quite head down execution with the odd interview or talk.

Yeah, in true Donald Trump-style where three of every four sentences start with "I".
The comments show how Gary is missing the mark on show like this. He claims that he listens and course corrects based on audience, and what the market is telling him. So lets see it in action. Used to be big fan of Gary from wine library days, and think he is great guy who gives lot of value, but recently started to think his ego is now taking over bit too much and he just seems to want yes men that hang on his every word at talks etc. but when people ahead of him in the game or powerful in different field, it's like his inferiority complex kicks in. Ray is head of most successful hedge fund in world way ahead of gary business success wise ($17 billion net worth!) He is like in the top 100 richest people in the world FFS. But its like Gary has to always prove he's smart and he gets what the guest is saying straight away, as in I'm on the same level as you. I think Gary's personal brand & ego now is way ahead of his business success (talking strictly numbers $200million revenue agency is not a $5billion under armour who he often says has got it wrong on the marketing front etc and not in same league of a Ray Dalio) and he needs the later to catchup to it. So instead of keep going around saying internet has changed things, need to go where attention is. Well then prove it. Execute a B2C brand like a dollar shave club (who did a billion in a couple of years). I think Gary is very aware to delay this, he keeps saying he is going to buy a brand (like Fila etc) and then use his agency to grow it super fast (with cutting edge marketing) but if he gets it wrong it will publicly really knock his brand. So it's easier for him to keep saying big companies should be doing this and doing that and lecturing other people on what they are doing wrong. Kevin Plank from Under Armour or CEO of dollar shave club etc. didn't have huge marketing machines etc. their proof is in the pudding of the huge B2C brands they built.
@LaszloMag7 жыл бұрын
Inferiority complex from Gary's part is just what I was thinking as I was watching this as well. Not sure if that's actually what's going on here, but I see myself doing this in situations where I'm in a conversation with somebody above my "pay grade", so to speak. I guess it's some sort of a defense mechanism that kicks in in situations where you're struggling to bring some value to the conversation - so the next best thing in that state of negative self-consciousness is to agree to everything the other person says. Again, I don't know enough about either psychology or Gary to tell what unconscious forces are at play here - I might very well just be projecting my own weaknesses. Regardless - this conversation would have been so much more fruitful if Ray had been allowed to finish his thoughts. In Gary's defense however - he does a lot of time ask great questions that no other people ask - so it's a shame really that Ray never gets the chance to elaborate on anything before the next question pops out.

@thomasharpole17157 жыл бұрын
Gary, I love your content and the effort you bring to your work. But this was a poor interview and had me cringing for the majority of the podcast. Here's a few hopefully constructive pieces you can use in the future: 1) There's no need to say "Yep" and "I understand" and "I get it" and "Yes" and "Of course" and "I know" and "I'm listening" every few seconds when someone is talking. You get louder and louder as if you're trying to assert how much you already know about the point the listener is trying to make. It gives off this weird vibe that you're way ahead of the listener and that it's not necessary for them to expand on their thoughts because you 'already understand.' 2) When you're ready to take a call, do not let the ring tone cut off someone's thoughts or sentence especially right after you ask them a question... period! It's not necessary at all and it happens in so many episodes. Do you really need to save the three seconds by overlapping the call with someone's thoughts? What is the problem with saying "OK, we ready for a call?" and then once the guest is ready... go for it and dial someone! 3) Try to avoid over-loading your questions with your own opinions/values, which is fine to an extent, but it feels like you're interviewing them for the sole purpose of leveling up the guests to your own beliefs, instead of really finding out about who they are as a person. I'll be listening in the future, as will all fans, but I hope you have the humility to examine some areas for improvement and work on them. Then you'll be able to bring even more value than before, which would be awesome since I know how important that is to you. Cheers and thank you!

Great points by Ray! Successful people are not people without problems, they are people who have learned how to overcome their problems. I'm gonna write down my principles and stick to them.

Gary is from Jersey and it's a part of his personality and culture to speak up and speak his mind. I personally think it makes the show unique and I prefer it over the silent show host. You're getting 2x the wisdom you get in a typical show. The guests on this show are high performers and successful people they can keep their own in a conversation. Keep it up Gary you're always going to get criticism if you're doing something different!

I still can't comprehend how super successful people that do podcast,interviews etc.. have so poor listening skills. Ray Dalio doesn't have 5 sentences without being interupt..

Answering Ray Dalio’s question: I am able to do it when I’m centered (operating more from love than from fear, even if that’s at 51%-49%). When I’m not centered, it is difficult and at times, depending on the percentage, seemingly impossible. I think I’m going to explore transcendental meditation. I also wanted to say THANK YOU, RAY for sharing with Tony Robbins your secret sauce for his books on finance. Those books have helped to transform my finances tremendously, and my my family has a brighter future because of them and the love behind them from great ones like you. I am going to order your book today. Thank you again.

how do you always manage to be top comment on Garys videos? Just curious.. Is he subscribed to you or something?

Gustav Linder Hey! So I post on all of his videos everyday so I’m seen as a “regular” i also try to provide value in some of my posts where I can. I guess that’s why people thumb my videos up.

Brian Tobias ahh interesting, so if you post regularly the KZbin algorithm will put you high up in the comment section?

Best AskGaryVee question of all time. It comes from no less than Sir Ray Dalio. My answer is no but I have to change that. Separating my opinion from myself, like Mr. Dalio said, will help me open up to different points of view so I can find the best one for me, the one that actually works and will give me results. Hi Gary and Ray. I'm Jays Geronca currently a Real Estate Agent but will soon launch a dance and also a self-help KZbin channel. My goal is to be a guest on your show one day. Maybe in 2019 if I can fast track my success.

Fascinating interview for a few reasons: 1) Rays breakdown of using a formula of principles to guide virtually all of his decision making made a lot of sense. In short, his decisions are made for him by the guiding principles already set in place. 2) Rays explanation of religions role in principled thinking is spot on. He wasnt talking about religion, but moreso its ripple effects on how people operate and make decisions. In short, wit or without religion, humans need guiding principles to succeed. 3) Ray mentioned he’s been immersed in TM since 1969 and meditates 40 min/day.Gary does not meditate. This, I think, is the source of where the convo loses its flow. 4) In my opinion, I see 2 incredibly successful men who communicate at a completely different pace. But at the end of the day, they share many fundamental principles on concepts like the value of failure, humility, and fear. I love The Ask Gary Vee Show lol 🙏💯

Best episode by far!!!! Ray Dalio is amazing. You two just got in the zone!!
Wow, amazing guest on your show Gary....Thank you for interviewing the legend, Ray Dalio. Incredible insight from a Master Investor/Hedge Fund manager. I love watching your content Gary, but please try give your guests more time/opportunity to answer more questions or to provide more of their own unique insight. I love your passion and I agree that you and Ray are very similar in terms of your purpose and macro way of thinking but it would have been really great to have heard more of Ray's thoughts and inputs. Also, I think you could have asked Ray more questions from the Facebook fans, like you normally do, on many of your other AskGaryVee shows. Ray only managed to answer two questions from the audience, one from Tim and another from Kristi. Love your show Gary! Keep it up! Many thanks for the awesome content.

Ray Dalio resonates with me so much! I am amazed at his ingenious. How he thinks, his decision-making, everything that I KNOW about him, based on his videos and his principles, is aspirational.
