The worst thing a musician can do is repeat himself, by finding a formula and sticking with it. Ray has wisely decided to exercise his right to express himself, doing so in a very retro-creative psychedelic style that I find soothing and beautiful. Restraint ain't easy for a band, but Ray makes it feel natural. AWESOME!

Yes it does have a melty psychedelic sound like the late 60s-early 70s music they played on the radio when I was a teenager. Wish this song was available on CD, I'd buy it right now.

All these comments claiming "you can't make the same record twice!" and "It's called expression! he's expressing himself different now!". What a bunch of bullshit. You are fooling yourselves. His look has changed, his image has seemed to change, and his sound has absolutely changed.. All seemingly towards something more mainstream. This is not about expressing himself differently, this is about selling records. It's very sad because Ray is one of my all time favourites.

I loved this song the very first time I heard it. All the live performances of this song on KZbin have awful audio. I remember there was only one cover of Lavender on piano by two women, but that appears to be gone. I love the prepared guitar (buzzy frets). I'm surprised no one has covered this song. I cannot find chords for it.

This song reminds me of the Paisley Underground groups. Paisley Underground is an early genre of alternative rock, based primarily in Los Angeles, California, which was at its most popular in the mid-1980s. Paisley Underground bands incorporated psychedelia, rich vocal harmonies and guitar interplay in a folk rock style that owed a particular debt to The Byrds, but more generally referenced the whole range of 1960s West Coast pop and garage rock.

I think you guys may be overthinking this. I have known lots of musicians, and sometimes they just think "you know what would be cool? we should make a crazy 60's sounding album". It's no big statement about the direction of the artist's "message". Just enjoy the music, or don't. I, for one, like it very much.

We lie, under a lavender sky Under a lavender sky we lie Do you, do you remember the day? Do you remember when we felt that way? Free to play, as a child we ran Through fields of clover Underneath the sun Back there, both of us without a care Leaves of many colors blown through the air Free to play, as a child we ran Through fields of clover Reaching for the sun Ill count twenty-five (No fair, cover your eyes!) Go on, run and hide (You'll never find me!) We lie, under a lavender sky Under a lavender sky we lie Do you, do you remember the day? Do you remember when we felt that way? Free to play, running circles round the place we found that no one ever knew Ill count twenty-five (No fair, cover your eyes!) Go on, run and hide (You'll never find me!) ♥
