My favorite Ray Price memory is the conversation I had with him at the Red Earth Festival in Oklahoma City in June 1995. He was Grand Marshall that year at one of the largest Native American gatherings in the country. He and I have many mutual friends both in and out of the music business and we talked for over an hour about life, music and friends. For that hour Ray Price was not a Superstar member of the Hall of Fame; he was a proud and humble Cherokee that had been given the gift of music.

Wow, that same voice at 81 years of age! Mr. Price has the most underrated voice of any genre of music; I like Sinatra, but love Mr. Price. What a soaring instrument God gave him. Stunning, especially the so called Nashville and gospel years, pure perfection personified. I'd die happier just to back him on drums 1 time, especially the wonderful 'I Won't Mention it Again".

No tellin' how many times I "polished a buckle" to the music of Ray and The Cherokee Cowboys (live back then - $3.00 admission). He was/is the best. Saw two live performances of his with friends I lost way too early. He's still the greatest.
