For anyone who has watched all of Bill's podcasts, you can tell that high school breakup affected him in a way that still lives on today. In fact I would argue it is a big reason why he has never chosen to get married. The number of times he talks about it you'd think it was the most amazing relationship and he messed it up. But in this episode it just sounded like a regular relationship that when it ended it was full of pain. Life is full of pain, what is important is how we respond and demonstrate resilience. Bill loves to slam it in the faces of the younger generation how they are so soft, yet here we have an example of a 60-year-old man that in one particular regard shows no resilience, no ability to process pain. Perhaps Bill and the younger generation have more in common than he might believe. Or more pointedly, perhaps he sees himself in that generation and hates the things that he hates about his younger self. Whatever it is Bill, it's time to let it go.

Great conversation! Glad to hear the discussion about the band Chicago. So cool that even Hendrix was in awe of Terry's playing. Terry Kath was without a doubt one of America's greatest guitarists and performers. He does not get enough credit for his playing, singing, or songwriting. Ray, you're absolutely right - that 1970 performance at Tanglewood in New York with "25 or 6 to 4" is one of the greatest televised Chicago performances. Not to mention, the first song they open with is a hip intro, aptly titled "Introduction" from their debut album when they were still called Chicago Transit Authority. Not surprisingly, Terry composed this song, and if you listen to it closely you'll notice how sophisticated the songwriting is, particularly when it comes to the use of the horn section throughout, featuring a beautiful trumpet solo in the middle of the tune. Lee, James, and Walter - Chicago's horn section - are still with the band to this day, and they continue to contribute so much to the band's songwriting and performing. Terry was 32 years old when that tragic accident resulted in his death. I wanted to clarify his age because I just celebrated my 33rd birthday, which is something Terry never had the opportunity to do. Chicago would never be the same after Terry died in the late 1970s, but the fact that they persevered after such a huge loss, continuing their songwriting and performing career, says quite a lot. While their sound changed from the 1980s moving forward, they are still one of America's most influential and celebrated Rock bands. Terry Kath was so much of the soul of Chicago, and the rest of the band have done so much to honor his life and legacy. Thanks for this insightful conversation, guys ☺

Heartache from 1st love is the context of that. He's right for some of us. It's the first real emotional pain

Bill gets in his own way during these interviews. He could make them so much better if he could just set his ego aside.

Ran into Ray at a Dodgers spring training baseball game this past spring in Arizona, of all places...he was just sitting alone at the back of the seating bowl, blending in, and went unnoticed for most of the game...he really does come across like friendly regular guy!

That would be a good one. Let's see how many seconds before Bill asks him about Rock Star pussy .

On this episode, Bill almost never shuts up, barely lets Ray talks and when he does allow Ray to speak he over talks him and barely listen. So, business as usual here on Club Random

I thoroughly enjoyed Ray Romano's interview/conversation. One of my favorites -- Jerry Seinfeld is my 2nd favorite.

Man, I really love this podcast, love Bill, and there have been some amazing guests……. But Bill, my darling, you just have to stop talking once in a while. Let these amazing guests tell us some stories!

1:09:00 The Peabody Award honors outstanding storytelling that powerfully illuminates issues and engages audiences. It’s one of the most prestigious awards in media, often compared to the Pulitzer Prize for journalism. And one can deduct that Bill has never heard of it because, well, you know … this podcast.

YES Ray! Chicago, Tanglewood 1970! FABULOUS concert, Terry Kath, his was the voice that was, for me, the SOUL of that band.👍They were never the same after IMO. Edited to add ~~ if Ray should ever happen to read here…….RAY! Make an exception & go to a Paul McCartney concert….if you teared up & enjoyed the reactions of the audience at Love, you’ll be blown away with Paul, guaranteed!💚

Top comments always say Bill talks too much yet the hundreds of thousands of people who can’t be bothered / don’t have time to read comments still love the podcast as do guests

To each their own, personally i'll have to stick to real time. This is one of the first podcasts or whatever these are that i've watched with regularity. This is supposed to be a little less formal, and apparently i wouldn't like to sit down and talk to bill for long, i like to be able to finish my sentences.

Listening is the most important skill in acting which is why Ray is a great actor and Bill desperately needs to talk about himself.

Speaking to the gambling segment, U2 summed it up perfectly in their song, Every Breaking Wave: Every breaking wave on the shore Tells the next one there'll be one more And every gambler knows that to lose Is what you're really there for Summer I was fearlessness Now I speak into an answer phone Like every fallen leaf on the breeze Winter wouldn't leave it alone, alone
