"It's not what you do it's how you do it, be anything you want to be"! Who remembers the amazing opening to the classic 1981 film "The Cannonball Run"?! The film was release on this date 39 years ago. Ray's song "Cannonball" plays during the famous Lamborghini chase that kicks off the film!

This scene is really the only one worth watching in the movie imo. These movies were not what they should have been imo. Would have been so much better if most of the racers had exotic cars.

I was 10 years old when I saw this film. VCR's was so expensive back then. Mom would rent a very every 2 weeks and let me rent 4 movies. This was my favorite choice. Must have watched it 10 times before we had to return it. It was so cool to a 10 yr old. Super cool cars, good looking ladies and so funny. Great movies and still own it on vhs and dvd. Yes, I have a vcr. Maybe old school, but I'm still a classic kinda guy. Have my original atari and Nintendo to.

And based on a real event, the organiser of which (Brock Yates) features in the movie as....the event organiser. In reality, he actually DID drive a Dodge Van made to look like an ambulance, along with his wife in the back as the patient for when they got pulled over by the cops (which actually happened). They were a DNF though sadly, arriving at the finishing point on a flat bed truck having suffered a transmission failure (also referenced in the movie).

What an opening scene! I was probably 9 years old when I saw this in the 80's, in the U.K. The car was just from another planet and the ladies blew my mind and all backed with an amazing song. Who knew a few decades later I'd have driven hot cars and quick bikes on the very roads in this video. Still haven't managed to do them in a black Lambo. That front spoiler is just the coolest. Never say never, so they say.

Sensible Me - Regulations of bumper height, sounds reasonable. Proper Me - It's a bad arse Lambo with two hot chicks, tearing up an Interstate highway. Literally my teenage dream. I've rode high powered motorbikes on that very road. Still waiting for that Lambo moment X It's coming.......

Back in the Summer of 81 before going into 5th grade, I went to the movie theater out in the midwest and saw this. Got me to liking fast cars afterward. They were on some car cruise and were using their cars as they were meant to be used :). That V12 lambo noise always gives me chills such a iconic engine.

This movie just gave off the vibe that the actors were not doing it for money, but for fun as well. That makes this movie a classic. Coming up with Roger Moore as a wealthy businessman who thinks he is James Bond, with a different girl next to him in every scene, driving a tricked out Aston is pure genious, as is the fact that they were all making fun of each other with blatant but funny namecalling like "Chocolate Monk" or "Goodyear Blimp" Todays "stars" are always in it for the money, and sexist or rude jokes (even made completely tongue in cheek, without any vile meanings) are a big nono nowadays.
