Harri, "The Streak" reached number 1 in the US and Britain in 1974. Ray has been a producer in the Nashville music scene. Belongs to "THREE" Hall of Fames (Songwriters, Country Music & Georgia) Ray released a song called "Everything Is Beautiful" in 1970 that became a chart topper winning a Grammy. Had two TV shows. Multi instrumentalist. You may say Ray Stevens is a very accomplished and successful talent. 👍👍👍

Wow, what a great question regarding the censorship issue! Tipper Gore was a key player in that campaign (1985), but this song preceded that by just over a decade (1974). I'm sure many of my favorite jazz tunes and many country songs would not have met her standards for publication. I remember when streaking, (not just the song) was a thing. Ray Stevens was and still is a powerful force in the world of humorous music.

Brings back memories every time I hear this! Streakers were kind of a fad back then, they were being reported at many events. I was a young teen and went to the Detroit Tigers baseball game with my dad one day. In the seventh inning stretch, there was some commotion on the field. My dad grabbed the binoculars and got an eye full, but then the guy ran across the field (running from security) and climbed the fence right in front of us. It was a memory I’ll never forget!

Streaking was a big thing when I was in college. I loved to ski and was there when the first "hot dog championship" event was held at Park City, Utah. All the early big names in this new type of skiing were there and it was televised for one of the network sports programs. The competition had to pause while the film crew reloaded and right then from the top of the run a streaker came blasting down the moguls that were the size of VWs! Wearing just a small backpack and a huge smile! Every one was laughing and screaming. Good thing he was a really good bump skier and didn't fall. They never did catch him.....

Streaking was a huge fad in mid-Seventies America. The guys at our high school participated in one of the biggest streaks, captured on camera and published in our senior yearbook. The Seventies was a wild time, with 1975 being the senior year of high school with the highest percentage of p¤t smokers ever recorded. Maybe that's why so many of us were streakers. 😂

Harri, the censorship group you were speaking of was the Parental Music Resource Center, or PMRC. It was started by then senator Al Gore's wife Tipper Gore and several other Washington wives, in 1985. It had influence due to their high profile positions. The influence of the group waned with the start of the 1990's, and the group disbanded in the mid-1990's. But in their time, they were able to, as you said, get warning labels placed on records for "explicit language". The things they considered to be explicit was anything like "devil worship", sexual references or curse words, glorification of violence, among others. They also managed to pressure record stores to place albums with "explicit covers" behind the counter with something blocking the explicit parts of the cover from public view. That pressure also extended to television stations, where they were able to convince the stations not to show what they considered to be explicit videos or play songs with explicit lyrics. Generally though, the PMRC did not bother with older material such as this song, unless they were looking for perceived "backward masking".

I think you're talking about Tipper Gore (Al Gore's wife at the time) with the warning stickers on albums. Streaking was a crazy fad in the 70's, especially on college campuses, where young men would inexplicably run naked through campus or sometimes onto sports fields during football games. I went to an all girl's college in Mississippi at the time and we would hang out our dorm windows and shout at the streakers that came from Mississippi State that was just up the road. Mostly we were telling them to take their clothes off or get off campus!! Yep, we southern girls were pretty wild. We were hanging out the windows because there was a curfew and we had to be in the dorms at 11:00pm, I think. Those were the days and good times when certain things were still shocking!
