Tony is an excellent singer, he is humorous, his music is universal and his heart is patriotic.

Love it, and how he talk about how this song skyrocketed his career singing it to the POWs that had been held in prisons in Vietnam during the Vietnam war. I so remember that this what the song was about as a teen when this song had so much air play back then, and when the POW's were released. Love Tony Orlando's song such as 'Candida' and 'Knock Three Time', which also had HUGE air time when I was in Jr. High.

I'll never understand that. I'm anti war and pretty much antigovernment. I am not anti-serviceman/woman though. I'm the exact opposite. My dad was a Marine. He hated what our government did to you guys. He knew it was started based on lies. He had zero respect for politicians. He said the only good politician was a dead politician. Had I not stood with hand over heart and head bowed as the national guard or reserves marched past us in the parade on Labor day I'd have been sitting funny into the New year. I respect everyone's right to make their own decisions and do what they think is right. If that's going into the military, that's their right. If it's not going into the military, that is also their right. Most of y'all didn't get to choose those. That wasn't right. It wasn't right that the wealthy could send their kids to college, but poor kids had to go kill people they'd never met who'd never done a thing to any of us. It was the same for the Vietnamese too. Those guys weren't given a choice. They had to fight or die. We were in their country. I pray every person who was there has peace now. When I was in my mid-twenties I drank like a fish. Not many could keep up with me. Two older friends of mine were Vietnam vets. I even drank them under the table a time or two but never admit it. Lol. The drunker we got, the quieter I got. Those stories they told me will be with my soul forever, but they're not in my mind everyday like they were theirs. Sadly they're both gone now. They were truly great gentlemen, like the majority of Vietnam vets I've met. I hate that they're gone, but knowing that they're free of those memories gives me some joy for them. I know this is long and scattered. I'm tired and getting a lil old. I didn't expect this to end up where it did. I hope that you have a great day. I hope you can decipher some of this. When I've had some sleep, if that ever happens, I'll come back and fix this mess of a novella I've written.

I can't really describe how it felt when we came back home after DS. The out pouring of support from the Nam Vets, it was amazing.

i used to love watching "tony orlando and dawn" show as a kid. was pissed when the show ended. i always enjoyed ray stevens. he had a knack for writing funny songs of the current fads. a prime example is the song "the streak." the early to mid 1970's, streaking was a huge fad, so he wrote a song about it.
