Johnny Cash actually did a lot of covers like this, they're some of my favorite things to listen to from him. The Beatles, Sheryl Crow, The Eagles, Niel Diamond, Simon and Garfunkel, Bob Dylan, Gordon Lightfoot, Tom Petty (a couple of times), Willie Nelson, Hank Williams, Soundgarden, Bruce Springsteen, The Rolling Stones, U2, and many, many more. He was so talented and made so much original music but he loved covering other people's songs as well. A true student of music. Great video and I had a strong urge to hug you by the end of it.

This was from American IV, the 4th of 5 albums of cover songs. I think the 5th album was released posthumously. Some other covers from that album include 'Bridge over Troubled Water' by Simon & Garfunkel, 'First Time I Saw Your Face' by Roberta Flack, 'Personal Jesus' by Depeche Mode, 'In My Life' by the Beatles, and 'Danny Boy', the traditional Irish folk song.

I'm 68, and Johnny is right near the front of the line in where musical artists came into my consciousness..There was Elvis, Johnny, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, then the Beatles, Stones, and it took off from there...Most of them were introduced to us via the Ed Sullivan Show..It surely was an amazing time for music, and a long time ago..Broke my heart when I first saw this video, but I also knew Johnny's path was not always an easy one.

I don't know how many times I've seen reactions to this but during yours I realized the end sums up the life of someone who doesn't love or value himself trying to show appreciation of those who loved him anyway, even with all his faults. Maybe Trent meant it that way as well, but the Cash history and perspective at the close of his career really drove it home.

This is not only a beautiful and emotional cover...but as you touched on, it's an important lesson about music. The things you get, or don't get, from a piece of music aren't always going to be the same as someone else. The best music, is the music you like to listen to, the way you like to listen to it.

Johnny’s American recordings are all stripped down covers, a lot of which you wouldn’t expect, but all worth listening to. More recently, Dolly Parton did an album of rock covers. Apparently there’s a story there about not being comfortable being in the Rock’n’roll Hall of Fame having not written a rock song. There are others out there.

There's lots of good music out there but once in a while there is a song that is special. "I wear the black for the poor and the beaten down, livin' in the hopeless, hungry side of town, I wear it for the prisoner who has long paid for his crime, but is there because he's a victim of the times."

With this video, which was also Johnny's last before he withdrew from music completely and unfortunately died in 2003, Johnny tried to reflect on his own life, in contrast to the original. It reflects the early days of his career, as well as its sometimes difficult course. The video also makes it clear that everything is temporary and that money and fame cannot replace health. This becomes particularly clear in the video when he, almost alone in an armchair, reflects on his life, while his wife June Carter Cash listens to him from the stairs and has to realize helplessly, almost pitifully, that the time to say goodbye will soon come . The last scene in the video is intended to symbolize the end. The end of saying goodbye to his fans as well as the end of earthly existence. He closes the coffin lid himself... Rest in Peace, great Man in Black. I am proud to have seen you live in 1982. I will always carry this gift in my heart...

Johnny Cash has always covered songs by other artists; he was humble singer and a music fan... he related w/ the people who were downtrodden and kept down. He was always looking for songs to sing... and one of his early hits was 'Ring of fire' that was co-written by June Carter (before she became Johnny Cash's wife) ... and he also covered Bob Dylan's song "It ain't me babe" as a duet w/ June Carter. Because of his health, Johnny Cash could not tour after 1989... Def American producer Rick Rubin offered Johnny Cash a record contract and gave him full creative control - he released 'American recordings' in 1994 and continued to release new albums for the label which gave Cash a new fanbase... Cash covered 'Bird on the wire' (Leonard Cohen)... 'Rusty cage' (by Soundgarden)... 'Solitary man' (by Neil Diamond) ... 'Personal Jesus' (by Depeche Mode)... and so many others. R.I.P. Legend 🤘🤘 The music video for 'Hurt' was filmed in early 2003 for his 4th American recordings album 'The man comes around' (released in late 2002) and did feature his wife June Carter Cash in the clip... His daughter Roseanne Cash recalled the couple inviting her to watch the clip together and it was emotional for her... June Carter soon passed away from her health issues and Johnny Cash died 3 months later...

When Trent heard this cover, he said "it's not my song anymore"

So many people assume so much about cash and have no idea who he actually was. He actually didn't want to do this so g at first. He claimed it wasn't his style or his type. He CHANGED it to March his style because the song is played differently by cash then nine inch nails. Further more the singer literally gave the song to cash because he said that cash could actually make it sound better.

“Damn.” Yeah. Sure enough. That fits the song and that fits the video.

I always love your reactions. This one the video of the song was not on at all, and after you paused and went back to listen again, the whole screen was blacked out. Didn’t see you at all the last half of the reaction. It’s a heartbreaking song. Thx for reacting!🙏🏼🌹💕

I was wondering about that. Does she edit her videos herself or does she film the reaction and has someone else editing it and putting it online? Maybe she doesn't even know!
