LYRICS:
(Ah) Georgia
Georgia
The whole day through
(The whole day through)
Just an old, sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind
(Georgia on my mind)
I said a-Georgia
Georgia
A song of you
(A song of you)
Comes as sweet and clear
As moonlight through the pines
Other arms a-reach out to me
Other eyes smile tenderly
Still, in the peaceful dreams, I see
The road leads back to you
I said, Georgia, oh, Georgia
No peace I find
Just an old, sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind
(Georgia on my mind, oh)
Other arms a-reach out to me
Other eyes smile tenderly
Still, in peaceful dreams, I see
The road leads back to you
Oh, oh
Georgia
Georgia
No peace, no peace I find
Just an old, sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind
(Georgia on my mind)
I said, just an old, sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind

My name is Georgia. My dad's family was from Georgia. I was born in 1941 and Daddy insisted I would be named Georgia! Many years later, I was a student at Ohio State University in Ohio and a guy dated got tickets to surprise me to see Ray Charles and the Rayettes at the Auditorium. What a show it was!! One of the best nights of my life..Ray Charles is a master of song and when he sang "Georgia On My Mind" , I had tears in my eyes..so beautiful! I'll never forget it!

I am white,British from Liverpool,UK ,and in the 1960's my late father who was a merchant seafarer brought back a stack of Ray Charles and Sam Cooke records from a voyage he made from Liverpool to Jacksonville,Florida. I was seven years old at the time, but these two wonderful singers and their beautiful music have stayed in my heart and mind ever since. Thanks Dad,you had great taste.

Ray Charles what a great human being. He was born dirt poor, went blind at 8 years old. His mother, not able to support him with no money, sent him away. He learned to play the piano and performed in clubs. He was booked at a club in Georgia, but refused to go on because it was segregated. He was a drug addict and kicked the habit cold turkey. After he cleaned himself up, he was welcomed to Georgia as their fellow Georgian. He went ont to become a philanthropist donating his money to poor countries. God rest his soul.

I don't hear Ray "singing" this song... I hear Ray "crying" this song, which is more than a simple song.... it is an ecstasy that pulls the thread of time, memories and life that stays, stays, stays and we are unable to recover lost time. Nothing comes back. Just Ray crying the Georgia Anthem.

I saw an interview with Billy Joel on tube. He said he (and many artists) feel/felt like Ray had the best voice and many singers wanted to sound like him. He said of all the people that tried, Joe Cocker pulled it off, more than anyone else. And that's interesting, because the two performed together and Joe even said himself that his body language is such that he tried to be like Ray... and it took on a life of its own. Anyway, I love this tune. I think it might be one of the best written (and sung) songs ever. Louis Armstrong's What A Wonderful World's got to be up there.

Ray could/can SEE SO MANY THINGS That so many people with 2 perfectly working 👀's could/can NEVER SEE! Ray never spoke as if he was a blind man either! He is constantly in conversation, interviews, music, & etc, saying things like "well the way I look at it", or "as far as I can see it" when Ray spoke/speaks on Seattle which he often called/calls his second home he would/does say "when I got to Seattle I could see that it was different, I can see that there is a lot more opportunity for me to be able to get up & do my music here!" Thanks for stopping by the show here in, on, & at Seattle Sir Mr. Ray Charles! ✌️💜🎶~206

@Georgia. I'm so glad for you! I also was fortunate enough to see the incomparable Ray Charles live in SF in the 70s with the Raylettes and Merry Clayton who later sang Give me Shelter with the Stones. My granny from Georgia helped raise me when my father left when I was 3. Her favorite song was Georgia on my mind! RIP granny and Ray! GBY always. Jim

i am listening to this because I have a red Walkman cd player that i have had since i was like 6 and i am now 19 soon to be 20. It’s a miracle it even plays and it’s so fragile. But songs just feel so much realer when it’s played on it. And this song hits so much different when i play it on there. Sadly i do not have batteries and need to get more so i am settling for this video tonight. This is just one of those life changing songs

I was featured electric bass player in a trio that performed Georgia on My Mind and other Ray Charles songs with Ray Charles in Charleston, West Virginia Symphony Orchestra. Ray Charles told the entire orchestra during the rehearsal that, the bass player, "me", could really play. The compliment from him was the thrill of a lifetime for me. It was cool. Another 15 minutes of fame.

I was born in northeast Georgia. Lived in the same town for 30 years. Three months ago, I moved to Belgium. While it's better over here in some ways, nothing compares to the beautiful nature in Georgia. The trails, the animals, the rivers, the hills, playing in the forest, prinitive camping surrounded by nothing but trees and streams, the food. I live out in the countryside, but it's still so dense and flat compared to Georgia. I still miss it every day.

Video made me cry. So many places near and dear to me. Lived here in north georgia for over 30 yrs. A little sad at no Braves, Dawgs, or Falcons, but guess there's too much to include everything great. There's a lot that makes me sad about our state sometimes but it's so beautiful and rich in history. Am an Army brat and probably only thing that tops Georgia was Hawaii as a kid in 80s.
