I don't care what they say about the ps1 version, this is the best final boss fight version to me, it's incredible epic and menacing and everyone should try it at least once. Like, download a 100% save file just to try this boss fight, it's worth it.

Loved this boss, loved this game. I think one of the reasons that the PS1 version was different (correct me if I'm wrong) was partly because it was developed by a different team. Still Ubisoft, just a different Ubisoft team. I'm sure I read that somewhere. I kind of prefer this version because there are more cutscenes in it that help develop the story more, and some of the other cutscenes are extended to give some of the bosses more roles. Also, Ninjas. Gotta love ninjas.

I knew this version existed! This was always the best one to me. The newer versions for ps2 and PC changed too much imo and they lack that gameboy extra level at the end if you collect all the yellow lums before you beat razorbeard

*JxDraco* That "gameboy" extra level is actually a level from the first Rayman 2 prototype made way back in 1996. Also you don't need all the yellow lums. Just 90%(that'd be 720). Getting all 800 doesn't to shi*, sadly...

@drskeletor1 To be precise, the GBA version doesn't seem to be canon. Many people consider it the GBA version of Rayman 2, but with elements from Rayman 3 thrown into it. So basically, Razorbeard escaped after Rayman 2 and is never heard from again.

I've only played the DS and PS1 versions of the game and I also noticed that, aside from the final bosses being completely different, the PS1 version was missing at least 3-4 levels.

Well ,I think Pc version was a bit harder.I completed it in 100 % when I was young.Got all the lums. The final boss part was annoying as hell on PC with all this tight spaces and barrel rolling 0_0

DYK: there's a cancelled prototype 2d version of this game.... and you can play that 1 prototype level... if you have 90% of the lums (720+ lums and beat the last level)

I used to have it on PC... good ol' days XD anyhoo PC graphics were fantastic compared to N64 and PS1, but both these systems had a nice port of the great escape, to me an excellent game is an excellent game, graphic engine doesn't matter ^^

Depends on your console. This is the PlayStation 1 version. Every console had different limitations. The PS1 was probably the crappiest HW that this game could be written for. They did a lot of tricks to get the game on the PS1. The final boss on the PC is entirely different, and N64 had a lot of differences as well.

Hi! I played the Spanish Version and he did not say that. The dialogs are like these: Rayman: Leave me friend in peace Final Boss: Now, you will rest in peace for all Eternity! So, maybe there was a miss-translation or something. Maybe an idiom of pirates

Could challange yourself with this fight. Your shots in the second phase will damage Grolgoth slightly if you hit the screen, so you could finish him that way.

@vjpearce Well oringally in some versions their 1000 lums it lims down to 999 because Razorbeard in his first cutscene eats it. Another reason is if you collect all you seen i think some areas where you can only get it in one try like i think Glommy Island you get them lums idk. I only got the PSX and i got like a 90 to i think also you get the best time for them walk levels to.

"Sluggier"? There was a limitation in the shader engine that limited the number of textures that could be loaded - but the PS1 had the same limitation. If you look up Rayman 2 N64 here, you can compare directly if you care to do it. You can verify yourself which system had better capabilities by doing side to side comparison. What the PS1 had over the N64 was it used a CDROM, and not a stupid cart system.

Don't you realize that I can take a modern computer system and give it LOUSY graphics, if I so choose? You need to compare game A to game A on console B and console C. Even that's not accurate. If a system isn't expected to generate a lot of sales, the developers don't worry about it so much. The PS1 version of Rayman 2 - is AMAZING considering the limitations they had to work with, but it was the best selling console of the 90s.

MGTOWTakeru and so What the voice acting is awful, the PS1 levels are short in comparison, the Dreamcast version has only glibberish yeah, but the levels are bigger, the hubworld is a real map, the game is more beautiful and it runs in 60 frames per second, the only version of Rayman 2 that is almost good as the Dreamcast is the PS2 game Rayman Revolution, and also the game originally is in glibberish, the voice acting in the PS1 port is just for compensate the lack of details of that port

why did anyone think it was a good idea to change the gameplay completely for the final boss, so instead of being a test of the skills youve learned its some bullshit flying segment thats only been in like one level? and 3d platformers always do this! at least the ps1 battle is better than the original, i prefer this type of shooter to the weird free-roam mode when you fly upside down n shit, thats just impossible.

I also do prefer the PSX version of the final fight because it takes longer to beat while there's a little more difficulty into it, the 3D free roam you mention is very short and easy to beat and that's not the way I like Final Bosses

Rayman revolution is a more better port in my opinion. The music is great, better voice acting, the graphics were good for its time, and the extra features such as the hub worlds and extra content to me the more superior way to play rayman 2

The Nintendo 64 had a 94 Mhz modified MIPS processor. The PS1 had a 33 Mhz modified MIPS processor. No, the PS1 wasn't all that great. It was a breakthrough for home video game consoles of course, but the PCs of the time could beat the hell out of it - of course, they were more expensive than a PS1, since PS1's were sold below cost because Sony made up the loss by taking a cut of profit for all games sold on it. Not knocking the PS1 - when it came out, it was a revolutionary GAMING console, but hardly the best hardware you could get at the time.

PS1 version was very different: due to hardware limitation, they cut some contents and changed many levels (however they are pretty similar to N64/PC/Dreamcast/PS2 versions).. in fact you had only 800 lums to collect in PS1 version (Razorbeard ate a red lum instead of a yellow one), but they compensate adding a full dubbing in many languages (Italian, English, Spanish, French and German) and maintaining the "high CD quality" soundtrack from the PC/Dreamcast versions (and PS2 just the following year)
