The crazy part about that is that Zidane was known to be quiet and was very calm 99% of the time. But this remaining 1% happened at two important and defining moments of his career, cost him 1 Ballon d'Or and cost France 1 World Cup Title. As you said he's already in the legend conversation but probably could have been one of the GOATs without these.

Zidane's outburst and red cards were more common than what the video suggest. Even during the WC 1998 he got sent off for a bad gesture against Saudi Arabia in the group stage. The consequence was that France had to play the best of 16 against Paraguay without him, and ended on the verge of elimination only for a golden goal during extra time.

You have to react to "Did Franck Ribery Deserve the Ballon d'Or 2013?" sometime. His dribbling is of a style I've never seen before in a player. To me his dribbling is the definition of the ball is a magnet to his feet. He played for Bayern Munich and his partnership with Arjen Robben is regarded as one of the best partnerships in the history of the sport. Obviously there are sooo many players that are worth reacting to; old and new. I hope you get a chance to react to all of them eventually.

@michaelgrabner8977

What "partnership"? Ribery and Robben played on opposite sides of the pitch at Bayern Munich, Ribery played along the left outline and Robben played along the right outline so both were divided by 68 meters of the pitch´s width so they saw each other during the game just from far...basically that was literally just a "long distance relationship" and no "partnership" Ribery had "a partnership" with David Alaba because both were "playing together" along the left outline at Bayern Munich, besides they were and they are best friends in private life as well...and that is what I then call "a partnership" by definition.
@kenzied.silvers6614
@kenzied.silvers6614 Жыл бұрын
@@michaelgrabner8977 What is meant by partnership is how lethal it was to have them together. The fact that they were on opposite sides is exactly what makes it a great partnership: danger from the right, danger from the left. If one misses, the other will get it. A nightmare for the opposite team.
@michaelgrabner8977
@michaelgrabner8977 Жыл бұрын
@@kenzied.silvers6614 You didn´t get my point at all....The point was "Partnership" is the wrong term for describing that. The term "partnership" soley implies that those 2 were passing the ball to each other on the pitch all the time . "A close interacting with each other" = "the actual definition for the term partnership" ...and that wasn´t the case between Robben and Ribery for obvious reasons = their position on the pitch wasn´t "side by side" in order to be capeable to do that. You can just say for instance those 2 were "essential and lethal parts of their team" for describing what those 2 did at Bayern Munich

Never has "stats" been important in football. It's only recently it's been "Americanized" and people look at xg (expected goals), averages etc to rate players. The intangibles in this sport, I feel, are too important to disregard. If you actually looked at a game, you'd see how brilliant Zidane was and no stat could convince you otherwise. Even as a pre-teen I was amazed watching him play. I hope other players like him can come through and make others childhoods as magical as mine.

Everything he says about Zidane here is very true, but I would say it also applies (even more so) to Maradona, which is why Maradona is my GOAT, its all about impact on the game directly and indirectly, CR7 for sure scores so many goals, but he does not make his team mates play better. Messi does to some extent improve his team mates, but really his peak was about his threat, same with Ronaldinho. Maradona and Zidane are the 2 players I have seen that have had the biggest impact on team mates as well as being phenomenal themselves, Others on that level might be Lothar Matthaus, Ruud Guillit and to a lesser extent I think Gerrard had this quality too although he's not in my all time 11 Matthaus(6) Zidane(8) and Maradona (10) would probably be my all time midfield 3 , My all time greatest 11 Kahn (1)* Cafu (2) Nesta, (4) Ramos (5) Maldini (3) Matthaus(6) Zidane(8) Maradona (10) Messi (11) Luis Ronaldo (R9)* Ronaldinho 7* *at his peak

That was the thing about Zidane. Defenders knew that probably the only way to stop him having an impact on the game was getting him sent off. So they would deliberately antagonise him. The next level to understand football is that its not only about scoring goals. Alot of new fans to the game only look to those payers that scores goals but they wont score goals if it werent for players like Zidane. These type of players are called "maestros" or "registas" They are the players that dictate the tempo, bring the ball from defence to offense, distributes the ball and makes the key passes. They are what conductors are to an orchestra. Xavi and Pirlo are two other good examples. Xavi took Barcelona to another level with his passing and ballcontrol.

Love your content, and I have some suggestions for you! I've been watching football for at least a decade now and there's a lot to learn, but I thought you could start by looking up Ribery and Thierry Henry because they were mentioned in this video. I also think you should watch some compilations of Pele and highlights of Argentina's goals in the 1986 world cup when maradona led them to victory. I can see why people call each of them the best in the world, but it's still Messi for me. Last suggestion! I think you'd enjoy reacting to full match highlights rather than compilations. It's much easier to understand how a game develops when you see it in full rather than chopped up in compilations. If you're not sure where to start, I highly recommend the premier league highlights from NBC sports because they give you a full sense of the development of each play throughout the game. Pick a team to follow and just watch their highlights every weekend! I think that would be fun to see and would help you apply what you've learned in a real game. There are lots of classic matches to look up highlights for as well. Almost any El Clasico (any game between fc Barcelona and real Madrid) would be a good one to watch, or maybe look up older world cup final highlights (2010 and 2014 maybe?). Again, love to see you learning about the sport. Hope this helps! Love the content and hope you keep it up!

Good reaction. However I can't understand why people believe that if Zidane was on the pitch France would have won. The penalty kicks are unpredictable, players like Ronaldo and Messi missed penalty kicks so why couldn't Zidane? Trezeguet was in 2006 one of the best striker in the world,and yet he hit the crossbar...

11:23 , Well Now you should know about Thierry Henry then. One of the Greatest France has Produced. He made his Legendary status playing for ARSENAL FC in English Premier League (EPL) & by Winning 1998 WC with ZIDANE. He's considered by many The best Player & Striker to play in the EPL ever. Watch & React a highlight video of him. Frank Ribery was a Beast too, one of the best Winger's of his Generation & a BAYERN MUNICH LEGEND.

apart from Zidane, Thierry Henry is one of the best/most famous french players of that (or really any) generation. One of the best players in Premier league history, people compare Mbappe to HIM.

CM's are the most important players in the game and typically the best overall players. Though not as good as Zidane, go check out a video of Ruud Gullitt. What would it look like if America's best athletes played? They'd look a lot like Gullitt.

Also Ribéry was not yet the superstar he would become later Trezeguet was a much better option to shoot a penalty. Ribéry was not fit for 120 mins and had zero experience whereas Trezeguet was one of the best strikers in the world at the time

You should check the other Ronaldo, el fenômeno, arguably the best player to ever be plagued by injuries, and someone most people agree could have been the goat if he was healthy.

France at the moment of Zidanes last world cup also had maybe the biggest clown in football as a manager. Wich has since become apparent. So maybe that played in to Zidanes bad decision? The substitutions of Henry and Ribery was certainly stupid.

People need to stop bringing Pele up against more modern greats as if he is somehow equal. Pele played at a time when fitness was of a much lower standard than it is today, Pele in his prime wouldn't be anywhere near as effective against defenders from the past 20 years as the likes of Zidane, Ronaldinho, Ibrahimovic, Ronaldo, Messi, etc, have been.
