Thank you for posting -- my unit has at times been squeaking and running a warmish motor -- suspect some binding inside -- and the chatter between the plates resembles your 'before' condition. I have been apprehensive about dismantling, but your video addresses that concern. And most of all, thank you for the source for the parts!

Thanks moonquest . Do you know if there is some specific way the two covers press together. I just did the i3DGear marine replacement , but the unit still does not press together firmly . I also notice you did not remove the attachments to the steering wheel . Is the placement of these important ? Thanks Ronan Kenneally , Cork

Hi Ronan, I sold the boat not long after making this video, not sure if the 'fit' needs to be firm! I did not need to remove the base plate as you can see from the video. The base plate only fits the wheel one way depending on the number of spokes in the wheel, there are pre-drilled holes...

The 3D printed roller wheels are available from i3DGear Marine at: www.i3dgear.com/online-store/Roller-Wheel-Autohelm-4000-ST4000-Wheel-Pilot-Set-of-7-A18058-p92001167 . Our company carries a full line of 3D printed replacement parts for the Autohelm / Raymarine wheel pilots. They come with complete repair instructions. There is also a repair kit for fixing one of the roller posts, which often break off.

I love this video. The one thing you gloss over is the thing one really needs, which is the little wheel thingies inside the unit, which wear out, and are how the unit holds itself together. Where can I get these? You said you had these made with a 3D printer? How do I get ahold of THAT guy?

I've also one of these autopilots. After it has been operational for a while, the drive lever is forced to be deactivated / lifted up. Do you have any idea about the possible reason of this malfunction? Thank you in advance for your kind assistance

Hi Bora, I don't use that unit anymore but I'm sure there is an acentric screw that can increase the pressure on the belt to stop it jumping off. Undo the locking grub & turn the shaft to increase the tension...
@MrBrMrB4 жыл бұрын
Hi @@6r4metroman, do you mean I should increase the tension on the adjustment locking nut that lies just behind the protection cap?
@i3dgearmarine9084 жыл бұрын
Another common cause for this problem is the pins in the lever's eccentric cam shearing - not allowing the lever to actuate the cam properly. It is very difficult to fix the sheared pins, but i3DGear sells a 3D printed Stainless Steel replacement (all one piece - no pins to shear). You can find it at: www.i3dgear.com/online-store/Drive-Eccentric-Assemby-Autohelm-4000-ST4000-Wheelpilot-p98852261

@@i3dgearmarine908 Thank You for Your reply. So far I've resolved the problem by loosing the adjustment cam so it doesn't make more than necessary pressure on the belt :) By the way, when I was repairing the autopilot, I've also checked the rollers You did supply in 2018. They are in perfect condition :)
