It was Raymond Burr"s character Perry Mason who inspired me to go to law school. I think it is tragic and so very sad that he had to live a lie for so many years. Perry Mason was so well scripted and brilliantly acted by Raymond and the ensemble that it stands today as a timeless dramatic series. I watch it 5 nights a week on MeTV and marvel at how Burr brings the character he plays to life. His expressions, voice and demeanor are so natural and so exquisitely applied that he is a model of intelligence and dignity. I'm not sure he can be accused fairly of all the lies he supposedly told. Studios made up a lot of stuff about actors and actresses in those days, for publicity purposes, and he may not have been personally responsible for some of them. No matter. What he did in his private life was HIS business, and no one else's. The pic of Barbara Hale, his co-star, with her arm around him and a smile on her face shows the real-life regard they had for each other. She was absolutely wonderful as well. Raymond Burr was a true original.

@@FactsVerse I saw one recently where Perry addressed a jury, which he seldom did. As a legal strategy he also rested the defense abruptly without putting on any witnesses and Hamilton Burger was so shocked he was shuffling papers, etc. It's difficult to describe how this all unfolded but the case did not end there. Perry's strategy forced other things to take place that opened up new evidence. It was so brilliant, and other aspects of that particular episode had some different twists as well.

I'm binging on the Perry Mason movie-length episodes for the last week and am stunned that I knew so little of his life! I used to live close to his birthplace and have been through that city many times! I also understand why he had to lie about his lifestyle during his acting years. Yes, in those days it would have destroyed his career. Decided to look into his early years when I saw the note of dedication with his birth and death years. I am only a few years until I'm 76 and wanted to know about his cause of death. Surprised that he also lived his early life in my area too! 3:43 & 4:10 both seem to be his series show assistant, Della, in the Perry Mason series, not his wife 'Bella'. 5:23 does look like 'Bella'. Looks like a lot of stock photos and mislabeling in this video... His cause of death is confusing as half say liver cancer and the rest is kidney cancer! How hard is it to get facts right? I also wish he thought out his story better. It doesn't take people long to dig deeper if stories do not make sense. I love the photo at 8:03 with his flowering plants because I have a similar collection.

It is Perry Mason I remember. And Raymond Burr as Perry Mason. May the real Raymond Burr Rest In Peace.

Burr’s fame was international. He was a public figure, and this idea that fans shouldn’t seek to know more about his personal life is ridiculous. His being gay may not have been anybody’s business, but what he was like in real life is fair game, just as it is for any other famous person.

Raymond Burr may have lived a life of " discretions ", but he was a wonderful actor and brought much joy to movie. and. T V. buffs. It's not really our place to say he lived a tragic life or died a tragic death. Perhaps besides bringing joy to others he did indeed live a worthwhile existence. Let the dead rest in peace.

I had heard years before that Raymond Burr was gay and I couldn't care less. It only makes me sad that he had to hide his lifestyle until years later. I have been binge-watching "Perry Mason" on Amazon Prime and thoroughly enjoying it, even though I was a small child when it came out. I shall always love Raymond Burr. 😊

Why is it strange and twisted? The man, for the good of his career, kept his private life private like it should be. Why do we continue to judge People based on who they sleep with, the amount of melanin in their dermis, or whether they are crested or cloven? He was a great actor and a generally good person. Can't we just leave it at that

WOW!! Raymond Burr, was and is still one of my favorite actors/idols. However, with all the tangle web of lies that he perpetrated, despite the fact that he was rich and famous is absolutely hard to swallow. Why did he chose to be secretive and not open about his life?

My friend and I accidental walked on set when Raymond Burr was filming in San Francisco. He was cool about and it and signed an autograph.

Just to point out: Ironside was definitely not an English tv series. It was American. This is a surprisingly basic error. How much of this is inaccurate, I wonder.

Ever since an ex-lover (who was bisexual) spread horrible lies about me after we broke up, I have absolutely despised all liars, so it's a good thing I never idolized Raymond Burr. I loved watching Burr's portrayal of Perry Mason - he solved some awesome mysteries - but off the TV & Movie set, Burr was just another guy.

His life was not a lie. It was simply none of your business. Plain and simple.

@ 4:40, Nazis shoot down a Boing 747! As a kid, there were many reruns of Perry Mason on afternoon TV after getting home from school. My older brother and I sometimes watched. I liked the formula, predictable as it was; and the ensemble of actors, Raymond Burr (Eyes made for TV), and including the Berger the Prosecuting Attorney who always had defeat snatched from the teeth of victory, and the cigarette-voiced Della Street. And William Hopper, real life son of the Gossip columnist Hedda Hopper.

I've always enjoyed his work. His role in "Godzilla" was great. I couldn't imagine anyone else as Perry Mason, that was casting done well. To be honest, I never really thought about his personal life. He was a very bright man, he dealt with his own affairs in whatever manner he thought was best. His sexual orientation had no effect, to my knowledge, on his ability as an actor. I'll always see him as Steve Martin or Perry Mason.

I still watch Raymond Burr on TV practically every day. So much better than the rubbish on TV now! He was frightened to lose his job! At least he kept his sex life private, which is more than the "freakish stars" of today can master!
