I just watched Maria Alexandrova on KZbin as an ideal Gamzatti; and I think Raymonda also suits her look/personality perfectly. Wonderful dancing and character attitude.

Utterly amazing. what wonderful techniques! You won't see dancing like that outside of Russia. Alexandrova is a tremendous artiste.

Wondering if this is the present (2019) production? We're getting it through FATHOM next week and I'm trying to bone up on the Bolshoi production to prep my kindly husband who is not the balletomane I am! Thanks for posting, and do you have any more of this? I can find Zakharova dancing with a company in Japan and an older production with Bessmertnova. Thanks for posting! Edit: Alexandrova OMG the variation and the coda. She sparkles! Why exactly did they not pick up her contract a few years after this?

minissa2009 yes, the production is all the same. Before they had this 2012 transmission full on KZbin. The Mazurka and Hungarian Dance from the 3rd act is amazing. Don’t know where it went. Probably they took it down and we are left with only this clips. I really wanted to watch Zakharova on Bolshoi’s Raymonda, but also there are no videos of it, just small and very old clips. I think this was a part she didn’t dance much there.

@@andrushkalm We got Smirnova, whom I quite like. Only complaint is at times she and the conductor seemed tobe fighting for control of the tempo. They still have Jean de Brienne in the first act (and actually dancing rather than just partnering), although looking at the 1986 with Semenyaka and Mukhammedov, they trimmed a bit. Still no White Lady, whom I kind of liked. But a lovely production, basically wall-to-wall dancing instead of the endless pageantry of the reproduction. A little like getting 3 acts' worth of grand divertissements. Tsvirko seemed to get a lot more mileage out of the choreographyfor Abderakham, but he is an incredible jumper.
