j'étais dans la salle lors de cette série, et je l'ai vue, l'incomparable et jamais égalée Pontois... simple, lumineuse et parfaite! ces représentations de Raymonda en 1983/84 restent mes plus fort souvenirs de danse : elles étaient tout simplement sublimes...

Noella Pontois was one of the greatest dancers I have ever seen. She was beautiful, had wonderful proportions and was supremely elegant. Back in 1988 she performed this at Teatro Regio in Turin with Fernando Bujones. I was one of the four pas de quatre chevaliers. Still remember her. Wonderful woman and dancer. Geeat memories never die. Pour toujours.

I find it hilarious when some people say: her technique is not perfect, she need to clean it up, etc... HA HA! Do these people even know who this woman is?. Unfortunately that's just the representation of what's happening in the world of ballet, people think the best dancers are the ones with the best technique, the sleekest body and the highest extensions. Well, no. The truth is that the best dancers are the ones that DANCE best.

TheBallet1 Yes.. third act is Hungarian inspired, csardas, verbunk. This variation is often referred to as "Variation Hongroise" There is loose historical connection to Hungary in the "story" of Raymonda, a Hungarian king in XIII. century let the Crusaders to go through Hungary on their journey to the Holy Land.

Each ballerina have their own artistry way of interpretation and no doubt she's a beautiful one. It's amazing to see this version with her, but also love Sylvie! and of course others. It's like a paint, but ballet just last the moment it's been dance, then we have to see it again to get the joy and beauty of it!!!

Майя Плисецкая танцевала до 54 лет, Уланова тоже за 50, Дудинская за 50. Дудинская в Кировском театре танцевала с Нуреевым в 50 лет Лауренсию. Рудольфу Нурееву было 20 лет, а Дудинской 50 лет, на 30 лет старше, и была страсть на сцене, самая лучшая Лауренсия

I would be interester to know what you mean by "her technique needs some clearing up". Do you know Noella Pontois was one of Nureyev's ballet partner? She wouldn't have been if she really need to clear up her technique. I don't care how long and where you dance, I think you can't really be a great dancer if you can't recognize a great ballerine like her...

Nureyev himself is known for less than perfect technique. So using her being his partner as clear and fireproof evidence of her qualities is not well grounded. And yes, Noella does not possess the best technique. Her strong parts lay elsewhere ...

Not the best technique I have ever seen, but she is certainly impressive and captivating. I believe we are spoiled as today technique is very seriously sought after making it difficult for a dancer to express individuality and artistry if they possess less then perfect technique. We are doing ourselves a very bad favour judging those dancers from the prism of today's standards. What mattered back then is hugely different and we need to understand that dancers were moulded differently in the past eras.

Raymonda has been set on Hungarian character dance style. Hungarian doesn't mean angry! Noëlla Pontois doesn't dance anymore, however if she's teaching this variation this way, I suggest her to train at the Bolshoi, if they would ever let her learn. Of course I am considering she is interpreting Nureyev's choreography, which is also wrong from the music and the style point of view.

Laurent Guyot Sylvie Guillem wonderfull 18-25 years old but not after , J saw her in 19 guest by Kirov " Sleeping-Beauty at " Palais ds Congrès Paris , "Romeo-Juliette " at 19 years j can say : Guillem wonderfull very young ( mouvement-rythme-Étude Béjart ) but after 25 years old nothing . The last time j saw her GiselleTheatre Châtelet Paris very disappointing . You speak about Guillem because you don'y know ballet as many people on youtube

I still think she's not very fluid with her movements. She's got great focus and a clear presence, very clean too, but I still say she neeeds to work on fluency. But i guess that's her expression :)
