As someone who *is* disabled, practically grew up in a hospital, and has a disabled sister, who has severe developmental delays, I loved Derpy. She may have been ditzy, but, she was accepted, she was loved, and she wasn't ashamed of who she was or how she was. We've often gotten mean looks, because many people, although they won't admit it, seem to have a instinctual disdain over those who are disabled, and it can *really* wear down on your own self-image and confidence. I've had many other things weigh on that as well. So, I grew an attachment to her from the beginning, though I didn't really use forums. I was crushed when I heard she was going to be changed because people thought she was "able-ist". People speaking for other people still happens, and they rarely know what they're talking about, and that's a prime, old school example.

I so deeply appreciate all your videos like this! Everyone is always trying to push “be cringe, be free” and I think the way you always take your topics so seriously, with true heartfelt intent, is exactly what that phrase should mean. There’s definitely a generation of people here who probably don’t think back to times like this with nostalgia, since in the modern lens there is so much cynicism because of how many bad eggs there are on the internet from these types of communities. But the truth is, these were communities, and for younger people who were apart of it, we were fully immersed and enjoying it! Times like this on the internet were very important and very formative, and I hope people can continue to recognize that in the same way you do! 😊

This video has been whiplash after whiplash of nostalgia. For some reason (Bronies' fame and association with... let's say "bad" behavior), and mainly adulthood and responsibilities, I've been keeping this brony era burred down in the depths of my mind and this video has brought so much joy to me. Almost matching the same joy I used to experience every time I heard the MLP intro melody when I was winding down after school. I used to have a plethora of MLP stuff including figurines, drawings, hoodies, shirts, bracelets, key chains, you name it. Nowadays I only have two DJPON3 figurines my sister gave me this past Christmas, which I reluctantly accepted mainly because its a bit rude to deny a gift and because also, she's not up to date with my interests (or perhaps she knows them more than I do). This video is truly a love letter to being yourself and loving every single facet of your personality, present and past. I think it is important to look back at your past self and fall in love again with things you forgot you liked. Now that I'm 30 and an adult in all senses of the word, it is important to reach out to my inner child and enjoy stuff just because I can. Even though I'm really trying I can't put into words how much this video has helped me to realize that it is actually ok to be yourself. It really is ok. Also that song at the end hit me like a truck, holy shit I did NOT remembered that but I'm glad I do now. It used to be my ringtone for a while:) Thank you. Also ye underestimate the appeal of vaguely mature topics to kids, it would have spread around Roblox and Minecraft, attracting low teens, may have aired on CW or USA, would probably overlap with the Once Upon A Time/Superwholock/Riverdale/Buffy type audience. Viv is kinda screwing it for everyone else, yeah, but the ecosystem was more favourable back then. She probably would have had better support/advice. There's more cynicism among investors/studios now after Pet Shop + other reboots and the Disney adventure block mostly failed. You can get more overtly mature now, but at the cost of overall creative freedom (like making fan focused cameos/episodes) They do see/like the merch potential at least, so maybe Viv will get reigned in and improve by the next season.

Not just because I considered Derpy to be a favorite of mine, but I think looking back, I resonated with the video because a lot of the things she was saying like ‘they want me gone’ or ‘I just don’t know what went wrong.’ reminded me a lot of the things that I questioned myself as a kid, as I was always bullied for my physical appearance or even just quirks and eccentricities that were generally out of my control. Honestly loved seeing you being super honest and open about loving mlp as a kid and having sections about it. I'm a trans guy but I still have interests people associate with girls and even though I think it's stupid to gender a silly cartoon about horses and friendship I still feel kinda insecure about it. Seeing a guy like you being so open about what you loved as a kid and still embrace as an adult me feel much more secure. So like. Thanks man. However hearing you say "in 2018 when i was 13" made me age RAPIDLY and im only 24

The beauty of derpy was, she wasnt a DEI character made to push The Message or sell you stuff. She is a peek into a world full of different characters each with their own unique personalities and experiences. She isnt some villian to be hated or a tool to solely to be used for a punch line. She is her own person. And through the support of the REAL fans who love the character and the show, the were able to essentialy help her express herself, flaws and strengths, and all. Something that we need to see more of in the real world. The karens who THINK theyre helping are the same people who would push crap like Dustborn or any number of those "unqiue" characters just to make the feel better about their hollow lives, earn brownie points, and try to sell a product. "Look at this disabled girl whose parapalegic and autistic. Give me money" The creators valued their fans and wanted to show them theyre listening and love the support. Not to make money. If anything, fans WANTED merch of her not only to show their support but to show their thoughts and love for those who Derpy might represent. The underdog who might be a bit different still means well and has a big heart. Attacking her and removing who she is not only stiffels creativity but weakens our hearts as a unit. Im happy Hasbro learned from all this and got better.

Seeing Derpy and alfa995’s animations again in this video brought back so much nostalgia from when I was a kid. I’m pretty sure I obsessively watched that Nyan Nyan video of theirs as a child, lol. I never finished the series as I got older (not sure why, I think it was just dealing with awful life circumstances-I never finished a bunch of other series as well, particularly ones I was reading due to getting my books stolen) this really makes me want to rewatch and finally finish the series. You know you’ve made a good series when people of all ages can enjoy it. I miss it tbh

21:34 As a OSC member I was so excited when you mentioned this. But I would like to point out that is the Total Drama Island them song and not Battle For Dream Island one. Although there is a fananimation with the TDI theme used in it. Edit: I guess that is the fananimation. Teardrop is still in BFDI as a whole. What you are referring to is the BFDIA (Season 2) elimination. I understand you aren't as well versed into object shows and I understand that especially with how small the object show community is in the mainstream. Also Adam (the cousin of the Derpy Hooves channel) did not create BFDI, but was inspired to create his own object show called Inanimate Insanity. However, Adam is a part of the BFDI crew as he voices Nickel as of BFDIA and had other credits in the show.

21:35 this is NOT the bfdi theme, this is the total drama island theme which is one of the inspirations for bfdi AND ALSO votes were determined by comments I'm pretty sure, not likes and dislikes

This is such a cute video, thank you for sharing this part of yourself with us. This might be the first video I've watched from you but it's really nice to see someone talk about their brony phase (ik you said you're not a brony) with excitement and not pure cringe, and still being excited about the same topic today. Brings back some nice memories for myself. Thanks again.

I remember finding a post talking about this and blaming "soccer moms" for ruining Derpy ages ago, I was probably...8? 9? Maybe 10? I was so confused. Especially on the "soccer moms" bit because I really didn't know what that meant 💀 I realize now it was 2010s term for Karens
@Poglavnit_Pferdefuhrer4 ай бұрын
All the way back to 1990s! One, *just one* led the whole campaign against Speedy Gonzalez being "racist" The general meaning was that a "soccer mom" needed something to occupy herself with while her kids were on the field, and inexplicably for a certain suburban demographic this turned out to be bizarre attempts at "safe from retribution moral activism, " often tv because they would leave it on to find the next thing to be offended over while writing letters for their current campaign. This started with nosy old biddies from the Catholic League complaining about shows that used vaguely Christian parables/morals in a show *without* overtly showing a crucifix or bible, since studios got antsy over that due to hippies in the previous decade complaining about that sort of representation
