Just here to talk about the former bassist of Coal Chamber eventually I will go over the band itself, but I wanted to talk about her and what happened to her.

Ranya was NOT the bassist from 1993 to 2003, she left in 1999 to raise her daughter. Nadja Peulen replaced Ranya for the tour and she became full time and is on Dark Days. Nadja came back in 2014 for the new album Rivals, released 2015. She is back with Coal Chamber for their 2nd reunion. Chela Ray Harper was their bassist from 2012-2014. Coal Chamber ended in 2002, Dez founded Devildriver, and released the Coal Chamber compilation album Giving the devil his due, Devildriver's debut album was released in 2003. Coal Chamber's Self titled was released in 1997.

She left shortly after recording her parts. She had her then husband Morgan Rose of Sevendust get into a pissing match with Dez (who he would call Pez) over who knows what. The song 'Enemy' by Sevendust is about Dez. Meegs and Dez started getting into it because of addiction. The song "Friend?" lyrics weren't available on the website because it was about Meegs. Nadja came onboard after, and they would disband on stage in May of 2002

the rivalry of Morgan and Dez is due to how Rayna was or felt she was treated in the band.@@Prozacslushy97

There's no way you can say she looked mentally ill playing on stage because pretty much everyone in a metal band looks mentally ill while playing in front of a crowd. That's just the nature of being in a metal band.

The 90's: The era of attractive female bass players in heavy bands. It was a nice time😊. They were not only eye candy, the ladies could rock your face off. This is terrible nees news about Reyna. My own daughter suffered from the same type of delusions. Fortunatley, we all got through it as a family. I wish her the very best❤❤❤

I met her once briefly back in the 90s... their first appearance at Milwaukee Metalfest. I was writing for PIT Mag and freelancing for other mags and copywriting bios & ad copy for Century Media and various other labels at that time. She was a stuck up jerk. Sometimes the old cliché "Don't meet your idols" rings true. Though, I have had the pleasure of meeting many of my idols and I'm happy to say the jagovs are an exception and not the rule. I think that's why interactions like I had with her stick so vividly in my memory.

She was adorable.. her interview at Ooziest 97' showed just how cool she was. So polite and excited to be a part of it, thanking people by name. I feel so bad for her. I don't care if she's 800 LBS and broke, she's a musical treasure! and should be living a nice comfortable life.

I saw Coal Chamber in my senior year of HS in 2000 (either February or March) with Full Devil Jacket, The Deadlights and Type O Negative. I got into them a year prior to that and getting the chance to see them live did not disappoint. I never got the chance to see them live again, but saw Type O several times.

I saw Coal Chamber live in, I want to say 1998-99. Slipknot was opening for them as the first band. Slipknot walked out onto the stage and my friend and I were like, "wtf!" They started their first song and my best friend was like "oh fuck yeah!" and made a beeline to the pit. Then Coal Chamber came out after the middle band that I can't remember. It was an amazing show! We bought Slipknots album the next day. :)

Her interview at that first Ozzfest where she’s all excited in her baggy basketball Jersey holding the mic for the band was adorable. I know she dipped to raise her kid but I can’t help but feel like all her people let her down. I’d have never given CC a shot as a kid if I hadn’t saw her on the poster. I remember thinking “they look crazy and if she made it into the band she must be badass” I was right. I kept replaying Unspoiled. I hope she’s doing better now. Sucks hearing someone who helped you out got tossed aside and left for dead.

I don’t understand how someone can just lose their mind! In older interviews she didn’t seem broken at all! And don’t say drugs because a lot of people were a lot heavier users than her

It's scary, but that's sometimes exactly how it is. For women, the onset of schizophrenia is usually between the late 20s to early 30s (for men, the average onset is the early 20s). Loved ones may suddenly find themselves at a loss, as someone they've known for many years begins to undergo a strange and overwhelming transformation. In some cases there can be possible earlier signs, such as depression or bouts of bizarre thoughts/behavior, but these may only be recognized as potentially tied to schizophrenia in hindsight. Environmental factors can also have a significant impact, and things like childhood trauma or drugs (sorry to mention them) can increase the risk of developing schizophrenia, psychosis or a similar illness. I get what you mean, that some people are heavier users, yet turn out fine, but think of it this way, those heavier users may not have been predisposed to a mental illness, such as schizophrenia. Schizophrenia can be tied to genetics, and sort of like a silent, hidden bomb that some families/people carry. Genetic factors are like this, whether positive or negative, such as predispositions to illnesses, addiction, behavioral issues, etc. They're like different switches turned on or off in each of us, making some people more susceptible to certain illnesses or conditions, especially if they experience stressors, like extreme environmental factors. So, some people are unaware they're carrying this specific silent bomb, and unlike most other people, if they get jostled or disrupted in the wrong way, that bomb is far more likely to go off. It may never go off, but certain factors, like drug use, can make it far more likely compared to other people. I'm not sure if she's schizophrenic; this is just one possible example. If the story Dez tells is true, that she started having these episodes in her last few years with the band, that would have been around her late 20s to early 30s, at exactly the average onset age range for women. And after that onset begins, schizophrenia may develop gradually (years) or rapidly (months) before it fully manifests.

coal chamber has always interested me. i grew up and they were popular with my crowd. being a musician, i never understood why they had so much success. their songs are simplistic - using similar riffs over and over that most super young nu metal bands in the late 90s and early 2000s were writing their very first songs with at age 15. loco was the only song I even halfway liked. that being said - or typed - i have more respect for them now and performance wise, they have definitely matured. still, ive gotta say it - or type it - the 2 most underappreciated bands from that time in music are by far DOPE, who are still around and making records - and even more underappreciated: FINGERTIGHT.
