So, just as a reference, I think the lesser comeback mechanic might be 3-3-4% instead of the 3-4-3% I mentioned in the video. Either way, you should get the point, it's less thanthe 4% you get when down 2pts or more in Siege. Just wanted to clarify!

i thought the come back mechanic was when you stop a kill streak(like 15 to 20) since you get 20-25 of your ult back
@xStoertebeker6 жыл бұрын
i think this mechanic should patched out, cause if you stay 3:0 or 3:1 when the enemy Team is playing better then you , you deserve to loose, or if you do this on purpose its meaning you're trolling so you deserve to loose either. This mechanic unbalanced all matchups so it sucks, so with this mechanic you dont get rly rewarded for playing rly good, carrieng and destroying the enemy team......
@sportowypirat6 жыл бұрын
Losing by 2 points doesn't mean you are indisputably worse. There's so much randomness in this game. Two lucky shots can decide who will capture the point. Bigger sample means less variance and comeback mechanic helps decrease randomness by giving you more opportunity.
@codysterling99746 жыл бұрын
If you are down 2-0 It's not 4% every time. I think it's 4%, 4%, 4%, and then 3% and then back to 4%. Something that I would say is underrated is how many seconds it takes to capture the point. Like I think it's 34 seconds of uncontested time in the hill. While if you are down 2-0 it's 21 seconds of uncontested time. That gives the team who only needs 21 seconds a lot of cushion, because they can lose a team fight or reset without losing the point immediately. Or they can ignore the hill while trying to get a pick and then focusing on the hill. Also if you are in a position where you are down 2-3 and you have a chance to push the point 3-3, I prefer my team not throw out ults tho it's something we talk about. But we really try to draw out the big ults if possible. Such as something like pip/seris/makoa etc etc. Tho on the other hand if it's 3-3 and you want to throw your ults to win the game, that's where communication is a big thing.

For those people who didn't know, it existed from almost always and was unknown to most people, same goes with the kill streak mechanic i.e. if u kill a person with high kill streak u will get bonus ult charge and the higher the kill-stream of the enemy player u killed, the higher ult charge you will get. Many players are still unaware of this. Most of us who know got to know from tournament matches , so well a tip, do watch tournament matches, if u can, for better game understanding

tl;dr This mechanic goes against the idea of a balanced competitive game, although I see it's potential in casual. This is probably worst thing I've ever seen in competitive gaming. This is artificially trying to balance the teams when the whole point of competing is to see which team is consistently better. This mechanic is fine in casual when people don't really want to play as a team as much, but why punish good teams with a handicap if they do well? 0.o It's funny you say at 7:20 that if you are at 3-2 and they are pushing cart you would rather let them capture the cart so it's a 3-3 and they don't have the unfair advantage next round, doesn't that sound like a problem? A competitive game where your strategy is to purposefully lose an objective so the game is balanced next round. Don't get me wrong I like playing paladins and I've been putting up with this since I started but this mechanic is just ridiculous.

Thank you so, so much for this video, Rayn! I've been on a break from my Season 2 qualifier matches since the first one I played felt really good for the first two points that we went up, then it seemed like things spiraled out of our control. No matter how much we swung the tide back toward us, we just couldn't get our leg up after the first successful push, so that first game ended in a loss for my side. And I've been running over the replay and how I played and what I did over and over since then. And I just couldn't figure it out! Now I know! I completely understand the comeback mechanic that you and Pretty Hair are always referencing and how it allowed them to struggle back from being down two points and end up with the win. Since my mind is finally at ease with this knowledge, I think it's time to earn my placement! =D

I never knew what this mechanic was, but i was aware of sometimes the objective being captured faster, but for some reason, I have had so many games where the enemy team has captured 3 points, we just defended and we captured the last point, and this has also happened to me. Its like we are winning 3-3, but we haven't fully pushed the payload once and the enemy team captures the final round. Anyways, the comeback mechanic can actually be good, but for some reason, if you let the payload be captured, the team loses moral, and a lot of people get salty, people report each other and its just a toxic lobby

The comeback mechanic is an unfair advantage. The good feeling of having the comeback mechanic win you the day is similar to the feeling of having an unfair card advantage like in cards unbound. Telling your team to group up is definitely better than telling them to give up. Sure both have the same result more or less when you feel you can't defend the objective anymore when you are at 3/4 to 2/4, but saying it the wrong way can give the wrong impression. I for one think a teammate plans to throw if they tell us to give up.

The thing that i like about comeback mechanic is that it makes the game fight uncertain and non deterministic. of course if you are granted mercy by the match making system only then after, but in any case my most enjoyed paladins games were where we went to 3-3 and fought tooth and nail with the enemies to seal a win. winning like this gives a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. that a snowball rolling match can't provide. of course the argument of handicapping the winning team is of great value but the fact that this method in term actually forces everyone to give their 200% and fight with all their might like the match means life and death to them, is what overshadows the argument. To me at the end of the day having fun and getting a sense of progression is what matters most while playing a game rather than winning. and "comeback mechanic" gets the job done.

Well the losing team has significantly closed the gap, has a 300 cred advantage and still caps 4 seconds faster (29 or so vs 34 abt 14 % i guess)?? The comeback mechanic is an excellent idea. It provides new avenues of strategy, balance, and gameplay. It definitely has a place in competitive because if both teams play with it in mind, there is no unfairness. Even if teams aren't aware of the mechanic, both sides still benefit from it, so you can never claim unfairness. A possible strategy is when you take the objective, don't push it through. Just farm kills as much as you can, take your 300 credits, and go 1/1. Just keep doing that. Pretty soon, its 3/3, the other team has had no bonus cap speed, you have 900 credits (per player) more than them, and possibly more if you've farmed a decent amount of kills.

i really thought this comeback acts within a single siege round when you come to contest the control point first and then penalized by the other team who then attack you from the high ground and then even gets faster cap rate when they win teamfight. that wouldn't have been a good design, making you actively avoid the objective.

People may not like it but I kinda find it more fair cause then when it's like 2-0 the winning team has more credits and items at higher tier while the same will not be as likely for the losing team but they get a higher cap rate. Idk it just seems ok to me tbh.

Didn't realize this was a thing. It's actually a great mechanic. The worst thing about overwatch is getting steamrolled and steamrolling being boring. This mechanic makes things more interesting and gives the losing side a chance. I just figured normal gameplay mechanics (credits+shop, ult charge since the enemy team probably has some killstreaks, etc) just allowed it to be possible. But this mechanic should be in more games (cough cough overwatch)

I get why there is a comeback mechanic, but i think it has no place in competitive and especially professional level play. Same for killstreak mechanics. I don't think competitive games should be giving unfair advantages one way or the other.

Wind sometimes a good team has a bad first round mate. If they come back from 2-0 that means you're team wasn't up to snuff. After it becomes 2-2 they don't have the comeback mechanic anymore, so if your team lost that's your own fault. Not the mechanics.

Daenon Janis like I said you must not know how humans work, it’s called confidence. If you start winning after a lost it’s what you get. You play better and so does your team. But on the other hand the other team gets pissed off because they were just winning and ask “how what’s wrong?” People start blaming each other, the team starts falling apart and if you lose that payload again that’s it you lose.

I'm not gonna say that comeback mechanics themselves are bad. League and CS:GO have their own comeback mechanics that work fairly well. In League, when a player breaks an enemy killstreak, they are rewarded with considerably more gold than from a normal kill, allowing them to catch up to their gold advantage. In CS:GO, if you've lost consecutive rounds, there will actually come a point in time where you're earning more money from a loss than if you won. When the comeback mechanic is that the losing team has an objectively easier win condition solely because they're behind, I feel like that's why this doesn't sit well with me. Other comeback mechanics set out to level the playing field, but this is effectively tipping the scales in favor of the losing side for no other reason but the fact that they're losing. Again, I feel like comeback mechanics have their place when done properly, but Paladins might need to revise theirs.

The comeback mechanic is terrible not because of what it does or how it works but because until this video, most none pro, non competitive players probably never even knew it existed or what effect it had. This is similar to the faster reload card which eventually was removed from champions who gained no benefit from buying it like Grover, which was a positive change. Not everyone will take the time to sit down and learn the game before playing it, so when trying to bring friends and family over to the game, they won't know why it feels bad (to them) only that they were winning and then they lost. The argument can be made that the opposite is also true, everyone likes the feeling of coming back from a seemingly lost situation but as you mentioned yourself in the video, Morale plays a bigger part in players (at low to mid tiers) sticking around long enough or playing as well as they can when they see a 2-0 Sadly there is no elegant solution either, being steamrolled feels bad and while this is not as drastic as the blue shell in mario kart, in terms of impact, it is quite similar, punishing your team for doing too well which is useful when the skill gap is large but devastating when the skill gap is tiny.
@BigPrimo336 жыл бұрын
Grumpy Reviews the skill gap is only their because A: people refuse to learn or B: bad Matchmaking When wins/losses are the sole result of comeback mechanic then who cares about skill...

The comeback mechanic is not entirely unfair. It balances out in an indirect way. The team who got 3 points for example would gain much more credits than the team who has no points so while the team with 0 points have the advantage of the comeback mechanic, the team who have 3 points would have the advantage of having way more credits to spend on items. It balances out indirectly.
@BigPrimo336 жыл бұрын
How did the team get a 3-0 advantage and more credits to spend? They earned them? Or was it a game mechanic that gave it to them? That's my beef with it. Seems this is their subtly way of not ever having to fix matchmaking...
@social3ngin33rin6 жыл бұрын
I think for competitive scenes it shouldn't exist, particularly for "pro" teams. It seems like an unnecessary handicap that kind of breaks the balance of skill and substitutes that with in-game advantage when the "pro" teams competing should already know how their team functions, the other game mechanics, and the champion stats/capabilities (your own champion, team champion compositions, and enemy champions); they should be able to theorize the strengths/weaknesses of their team and the enemy team, and how they will blend together. The Comeback mechanic shouldn't exist at the "pro" level; life isn't fair, stop trying to play (G)god.

They cap and push easily in the 1st round but the ultimates change the game and you're team is actually.. capping. Oh look - we capped! Maybe we can push it? Then it finally goes to 3/3 and there is a chance 50%-50% that you will win

This mechanic is an abomination and shows, among list of other things, that Paladins isnt ready for esports. We were even told that it was designed to make more 3:3 games which are longer and more exciting, nothing to do with fairness. People defending it probably arent competitive tournament players as such would never use argument like "what if someone had poor round". Well, you get poor round if you make mistakes or enemies did something better. Advantage for winning side is deserved, just like you get stacked due to map control in 1on1 and TDM esports games. If you want restart it is what maps are for, you lose map, there is another one. Now maps in Paladins are often longer than they should be and in some cases losing 2:0 early may actually increase your chances of winning map, because afterwards one good retake is often enough to take objective and then you get to 3:3 with credits advantage on map that would be lost to 0 otherwise.

Good luck with 30+ minutes on a match

rare, that's like 0.01% or ranked games since because of the broken matchmaking it would be a team with 1 diamond and 4 bronzes against a team full of masters.

30 minutes matches are the best. I once had one with jenos and I did my healing record (225k) and it was so intense and fun.

NTYo that sounds like a 5 minute match to me.

The argument that "it has been working, why change?" is a bad argument. Outright dismissing the opposition because "this is what status quo is and it has worked so far" is bad. What if the other way works even BETTER? You must at least aknowledge the other side and bring up better arguments than "this has been in the game for so long, why even argue?"

I’d slightly agree with your main statement. The caveat here is that Paladins isn’t status quo, or comparable to that. It’s a game that has found success in an industry where nearly every game flops. It’s built a sustained and passionate community. This isn’t “working ok” - this is 1/100000 easily. Making a successful game is one of the rarest and hardest things to do, so changing something so core to that design should always be handled with extreme caution

Don't get me wrong, I agree with the mechanic myself, as it adds more layers to the strategy ( "Welcome to 4 dimensional chess with guns madaf**ka!"), but I just would expect better argumentation from you than "it worked so far, let's not risk changing it" when discussing with the other side about it.
