Great video! One note I have is that using attenuation does NOT lower background noise. It only lowers the volume of the mic overall. That part was a little misleading.
@RayValencia
@RayValencia 2 жыл бұрын
Hey DJ Illee. Thanks for checking it out, man! I thought in my explanation, I showed that the attenuator changes the Sensitivity of the microphone. I used background noise in my example to show the increase/decrease in Sensitivity of my vocals compared to surrounding noises. When set to 0db, it is the most sensitive and you hear the BG noise clearly, as well as extreme detail in my voice (so I showed how both vocals and BG noise decrease in volume as I go higher in Attenuation). If you're interested, I have a part 2 of this video, where I explain the FX3 handle again with the Rode Wireless GO II. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h2PXaH9jp7V5j9U

Very useful explanations. Much better than Sony's manual. The two filter settings are high pass (low cut) filters, mainly used to cut wind, traffic, air conditioner, heavy machinery, or handling noise. Also buzzing florescent light fixtures (60 hz). The filter can be set to 100 hz (hertz or cycles) or 300 hz(hertz or cycles). The cut is fairly gradual, so to cut 60 hz noise, the 300 hz setting is probably best. To cut wind noise, the 100 hz setting is probably best. No cut gives the best sound unless interference from low environmental sounds is a problem (two octaves below middle C is about 60 hz). One cavil; the correct frequencies are 300 Hz, 100 Hz (three hundred cycles per second, one hundred cycles per second-NOT three hundred thousand Hz, one hundred thousands Hz or cycles per second (300 KHz, 100 KHz, three hundred kilohertz, one hundred kilohertz)- humans can not hear nor most microphones pick up, sounds that high in frequency).

@RayValencia
@RayValencia 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, absolutely. For every day use mics, like vlogging, or youtube, especially on certain mics that pick up a lot of noise. For example, I always keep Low-cut on the Lowest setting on the Rode VMP+. Not the Max 150hz, just 75hz, because it tends to pick up a good amount of environmental noises and it helps with the AC or fan noises, etc.

The K3M (and the "K3M" that comes with the FX3), IMHO, are way underrated for what they really can do. You can have up to 4 different mono sources (as long each channel is matched left and right) imbedded with your video (no post-sync needed), and the pre-amps are surprisingly good. I just wish Sony would have made the handle on the FX3 more modular, but then again the first thing I did when I got the FX3 was take the entire handle apart to see how everything was piped inside there and to see what kind of modularity I could do myself. We'll see! Thanks for taking the time to make this video.
@RayValencia

I completely agree. I wish I could pop the XLR module off the handle with another Digital Shoe when I don't need it. It definitely doesn't pack into bags very easily in 1 solid piece either. Although, I'd rather have it than Not at all. Lol. I saw a few Frankenstein XLR handles on the FX3 Facebook group... looks like there's some kind of ribbon cable wiring it all together. Did you get passed that phase and remove it?
@MOMENTSbyRonSonedecker
@MOMENTSbyRonSonedecker 3 жыл бұрын
@@RayValencia Yeah, I broke the entire handle down into each individual component (there is a ribbon cable that runs from the MI shoe through the handle and to the main internal body). I've got the equipment downstairs set up to put a quick video together on some mods to the FX3 similar to my A7SIII video I made and I plan to jokingly show what my handle now looks like (because I like to break things down and see how I can muck around with them) - guess I need to join the FX3 FB group like I did the A7SIII group.

Definitely. You have 4 channels of Audio. The 2 XLRs take up 2 channels, the 3.5mm jack on the Handle takes up 2 channels. Although, if you plug something into the 3.5mm jack on the BODY, it will override the XLR Handle completely.

Hi Adam. Just to clarify, are you using the FX3 or K3M on a7SIII? You've gone into the menu and enabled 4 ch Audio, then gone into the Sound Option to specify what your headphones are monitoring (like 1/3 in your left ear and 2/4 in your right ear). Then you Input Selector on the FX3 handle tells your camera which Input you want to be on Ch1/2.

Hey important question: I have a sony shotgun mic with 2 xlr cables (left and right xlr) in input 1 and 2 and the sennheiser ew g4 with the 3.5mm jack into input 3. Somehow i cant get a sound out of input 3! But when i plug my 3.5 jack into the input on the camera body the 3.5 jack seems to work (besides not having 4 channels now)! Do you think they used a different 3.5 jack compatibility or is my input 3 on the handle broken?

That is really strange. Do you have 4 channel Audio enabled in the Menu, and did you check the Headphone monitoring settings to make sure you're hearing the right channels (showed in the video)?

Ninja 5 is causing a vibration through the audio handle for me and the mic is picking it up. I assume it's the internal fan which is on low. Tried two different mounts as well as padding, isolation foam for mic.

What would you reccomend for a Rode videomic go? It needs phantom power but when using the 3.5 to xlr you talk about here it doesn't pic it up. Straight into 3.5 works fine but don't get the ATT snd low cut options with input 3

Hey Oly! If it works fine going into 3.5mm then it does not require Phantom Power. It's a regular "Mic-Level" mic (not Line level) and doesn't need the 48Volts of Power. Have you tried that adapter with putting the Audio level on Mic Level instead of Line? Let me know.

@@RayValencia Hi 👋. Yes tried both mic and mic+48. I know it's picking the audio unit up because when I turn on it on the LCD it's saying "48khz/16bit 2 channels. Then that disappears when it's turned off. I tried with headphones in to check and can hear from the mic when plugged into 3.5 port (input3) but when I plug into input 1 or 2 using xlr adapter (have tested 2) it doesn't pick up on any mic or mic + options 🤔

My friend. I'm very worried that my Sony pz 28-135 without support from below will not last long on the FX3. have you had any experience using this heavy lens without an additional rig? mount won't break?

Excellent video and well timed. I’m on the quest about learning about audio. I own the FX3 and MixPre3 plus a “few” wireless audio devices that I’m learning how to use.

Very helpful thank you!. But I wanna know how much impedance can Fx3 power. I am planning to buy a headphone to connect directly to my camera(FX3) and I have no idea if it can power 250ohm or not. I am planning to buy among 80ohm or 250ohm. How much impedance can it power?
