NEVER!!! remove the caliper support bar. There was no need to do it to do any kind of service work. They are torqued on a specific jig and removing them can cause issues with caliper flex. You don’t need to remove these to change pads or remove the caliper. Not to mention you just destroyed the sealed painted surface, so expect that paint to start chipping and peeling off right where the bolt was removed.

I installed speed bleeders on all my brake calipers. So when I go to spread the pistons, instead of opening the brake fluid reservoir, I open the bleeder valve on the caliper and attach a drain tube. Then when I spread the pistons, the old, cooked brake fluid at the caliper gets pushed out through the bleeder valve. After I'm done I close the bleeder valve and go pump the brake pedal to push out the pistons again, and I top off the reservoir as needed with fresh brake fluid. Doing this procedure gets rid of the most cooked brake fluid. Of course, if you decide to flush your brake lines then this doesn't matter.

Do you think you have to remove the Caliper to do just pads?

I have 2018 RS3, My Audi dealership told me that I’ll need to replace brake pads around 30K KM. I never tracked my car or been aggressive on my car. Is this normal to change brake this fast.
@PilotThumper
@PilotThumper 3 жыл бұрын
Yup, the factory pads are absolute trash. Same with the factory rotors. They are trash after 30k or less. Surprised you made it that far, mine needed it before 22k (kms)

@@TaimurBaig87 EBC red stuff pads. I surfaced the rotors but will be replacing the rotors later on with 034 Motorsports slotted rotors. 370mm front and upgrading the rears to 350mm

@@PilotThumper I have a 2020 RS3 and after only a bit past 15k (km) I had to go replace my first set of stock pads at the dealership. The replacement pads only last another 15k km before needing to be replaced again. I do not track my car at all and do some "spirited" driving only from time to time. Now at 33k km, I was told that my rotors must also be replaced. I am in complete shock. This is way too expensive and way too soon to be dealing with this type of work. I'm going with EBC red stuff pads and GiroDisc 2-Piece Slotted Performance Brake Rotors instead of going back to the dealership and doing OEM.
@PilotThumper
@PilotThumper Жыл бұрын
@@eddies1994 honestly, you can scuff the stock rotors and slap pads on them. I did just that and now have 57k (kms) on the car. When the EBC pads are done I will for sure need new rotors tho. If you can take the rotors off and have them machined I would give it a try. Saves a decent amount of money. I get what you mean about brakes being way to soon. I’m used to 50-60k and needing to start thinking about brakes….not less than half of that.
