Compression is something I've always struggled with over the last few years, and your easy to understand explanation, and demonstration in real time made it 100 times easier to grasp what's actually going on with the compressor. Legend! New subscriber, and thank you for the free compression EBook download. Blessings from Brisbane/Australia

Although I agree being aggressive with the settings will help you hear the compression, I would advise not cranking the ratio when doing this. The ratio is tied to the knee. A larger ratio will change how that onset compression of the knee reacts to the signal. So a higher ratio does not have a linear relationship to lower ratios. Obviously if you’re using a hard knee this is not as important. But a lot of compressors (especially analog modeled compressors) have a hidden knee which is definitely tied into the ratio. Not many engineers know this. I bet this would be a great video idea! If you need some source information on the topic just let me know!

Great Idea David! You are 100% correct that ratio is non-linear. Maybe I can also talk about how lowering ratio is fundamentally different than adjusting the dry/wet knob. This is another misconception many have. Thanks!

Don't those drum and bass loops already come with a certain amount of compression and eq when you buy them?
@RaytownProductions2 жыл бұрын
Probably! These were stock in cubase so they are also premixed too. But for sake of hearing compression, we can push it a little over the top 😜

Short release gives you the bumping sound , not long release time, doesn't it ?
