My blade 15 had a bulging battery this month. It was warping the case so badly that the trackpad wouldn’t click. Worst of all, this happened 2 weeks after my warranty technically expired, however, Razer said they would honor it and are replacing my laptop free of charge.

I really respect when reviewers go back and present a product standing the test of time. It's easy for all these products to last the short time people normally allow for a product to be reviewed, I like to hear if those claims still hold up in everyday use.

I have used 5 Razer laptops over the years, the newest one I got is a 2019 blade 15. The QC was really the big problem back then, both of my 14 and 17 would overheat even playing league, but battery life was ok. The new 15 def improved thermal. But other companies also improved their design, refined their thermals, and are cheaper. I just like the aesthetic of Razer laptops.

I got the 2020 base version and so far I love it. I don't game on it that much, because I already have a gaming PC. But I can see how someone could ruin this beautiful machine if they play games on it all day and use it on their lap blocking the ventilation.

I've watched a number of your videos and I really appreciate how conversational you are. You don't yell at the camera or gesture excessively. Your voice is actually very mellow and easy to listen to. Also, I like that you speak extemporaneously, rather than reading from a prompter. This is coming from someone who is hyper-critical about KZbin hosts who annoy me.

Been using my 2080 Blade 15 OLED 2019 for almost a year now. I echo others comments about battery life. I am lucky to get 4 hours..usually more like 2.5. I really wish the laptop could charge over USB C. I don't need to charge on USB c while gaming but it would be nice to not have to carry around the huge power brick for general web browsing on the go. Keyboard has a small learning curve, the right shift took some time to get used to. Love the OLED screen. I play games mainly on an external 27" monitor with higher refresh, so the low refresh on the OLED is not a big issue for me. I have had no BSODs yet, crossing fingers...Overall, I am still pleased with purchase.

Got the 2018 blade 15 two years ago and i still love it. i've had the blue screen maybe 3 times over the span of three years. Which is not bad, no idea what caused it in those instances but aside from that its done a great job of gaming and giving me the power needed for 3d modeling for engineering classes. I even started using it to edit some podcasts. I've keep it in good condition by cleaning the fans whenever a decent amount of dust has built up and the removable bottom plate definitely helps keep it hassle free. The one thing is the 2018 keys dont light up the secondary function keys like brightness and volume, but fortunately the 19' and 20' versions do.

2018 Blade 15 (Advanced model) user and watching this on my blade as well. One of the things that suck the most about customer service is when you have to send it in. I live in the UK, and it takes a round trip time of 3 weeks from sending it to getting it back, which is a big hit, especially for me as my primary computing device. Recently when I opened up my laptop to upgrade my ram, I noticed that the battery was bulging and since I couldn't afford to lose my laptop for three weeks, I just swapped it myself with a third party battery. The customer service reps, on the other hand, have been understanding and good for me. That being said, I still don't think that there's really been any competition to the blade in terms of its solid looks. Sure MSI, Asus have equally powerful laptops, but I could never bring them into my work meetings without sticking out like a sore thumb in a sea of MacBooks and dell XPS's. Given how responsive they've been to the flaws of the 2018 model with 2019 and 2020 model with things such as the right shift key (super annoying) and the USB C charging as well, I would still probably consider buying a blade 15 in 2021 or 22 even if they don't offer AMD and that's saying a lot given just the sheer everyday ease of usability of the blade. I really wish other manufactures could step up to the level of design as the blade with as much power it offers.

2018 Blade 15 (GTX1060 model), Mercury White. I've had the webcam and microphone die on this machine three times within the first year, each time requiring an RMA. The last time, they actually replaced the entire laptop with a refurbished one. My theory is that the mic/webcam cable running over the heatsink is what keeps causing it to fail; WHY did they use foot-long display cable running over the hottest part of the laptop? Anyway, to their credit, Razer did fix the problem each time. Customer support was bizarrely inconsistent. One time, they asked me to print up a hard copy of every email I had exchanged with them and include the printed emails in the box with the laptop. Two of the RMAs were crazy-quick, with only a week of turnaround time; the third RMA took over a month.

I have a base model as well from 2019. RTX 2060 / 144hz. Been using for over a 3 months now. All I can say is, it's an incredibly built laptop. Literally a Macbook PC, no other windows laptop comes close as far as build quality (The Surface Book as up there). The trackpad is absolutely incredible. Plays pretty much every game I throw at well above 60fps. (Gears 5, Halo MCC, NBA 2K20 etc) It's also very fast and efficient. I do all my graphic work on it. There are a few cons though. The charger, as mentioned in the video, is stupid, it gets in the way, I wish they came up with a better design for it. Fan Noise. Fan's randomly accelerate up and down if not calibrated correctly. Besides that, it's a great laptop all around and definitely a poster boy laptop for the best windows can offer if you want performance and design.

@123 321 I had to turn off Intel's "Turbo Boost" in the Bios. Pretty much eliminated all fan noise when browsing the web. It'll be a more consistent sound coming from your Laptop. Those random "jet engine" ramp ups were annoying the crap out of me. However, just know, that depending on what site you're on, the fans are destined to start running at some point. All laptops make noise...even macbooks lol Disabling the Turbo Boost the laptop won't "rev up" randomly either. Since it'll always bee running at a base clock of 2.6 Ghz. There's also a bug if your fans do start running randomly, opening up task manager will slow the fans down.

I did upgrade my M.2 to a 1TB and my the internal Barricuda Hybrid drive to a 2TB Evo. I didn't have any issues with BSOD but it was a pain to upgrade the Drives as the Replica drives never worked. It took me 4x to get it to work each time doing the same process. Other that the SD slot missing I can't say I have any major gripes. I'm so glad you've posted this video! Strangely, even as a Blade 15 Advanced owner (early 2019; i7-8750H w/ 2070 Max - Q) I've been trying to find an analysis of the blade systems from the tech-reporter community. Coming from a 2011 MacBook Pro and as a my initial foray into the Windows ecosystem, the only criteria I had for a laptop was I wanted to find a system that could provide exceptional performance with a comparable build quality to that of the MacBook lineup. Razer definitely filled that niche, and I have to say, having owned this system for just over a year now, I've been generally pleased with the switch. To the point of build quality, I will say that I did run into some similar issues to those who are vocal in the Razer community. I had to RMA my device for a detached speaker head, and have a stuck pixel that I absolutely cannot fix. However, I will say on the customer service front, I have experienced nothing but phenomenal assistance from the Razer team. They have been more than willing to work with me on fixing the speaker issues months ago. The battery life is meh, but I've thoroughly enjoyed the platform. I've upgraded the SSD to a 1TB Evo 970, use this on a daily basis with an external monitor, can play every single triple A game at exceptional framerates. Beside the suggestions you've made (which are all wonderful) I'd like to see Razer offer their higher refresh rate OLED on the upcoming late-2020/early-2021 models, similar to the 120Hz OLED panels they have on the current Blade Pro 17's.

It gets absurdly hot and screen brightness is a tad lacking as you mentioned, but overall very happy with the machine. And got it for 2k at best but in November, was a great deal, that they discounted accidentally in the store for me. Been using it for gaming and now pro tools actually. Something I like about my razer blade 15 is the cooling. I've had gaming laptops in the past. When they'll be on battery, they will still ramp up the fans. When I'm on battery, I disable turbo mode and not only is it quiet, but it also provides better thermals, and better battery life. Speaking of battery, the cooler temps when disabling turbo would most likely prevent the bloated battery issues. On the battery unit itself, it says "don't expose over 65c". I just keep an eye on temps and make sure it doesn't go above 65-70c.

I currently work/game on a Razer Blade 15 Advanced Model (mid-2019), got a bloated battery after about a year or so. It was easy enough to order a replacement battery from Amazon, which works just fine. However, I must say there are some things that I did (or rather didn't) do that may have contributed to the bloating. 1) I kept it plugged in 24/7 most of the time; 2) Didn't do any sort of maintenance on it for that year, after the battery started bloating I sent it to a shop, which revealed a crazy amount of cat hair and dust inside (especially on the fans), and the thermal paste was completely dry. 3) Didn't manually adjust the fan speed on my long gaming sessions (often 4-6 hours). After the battery replacement, thermal repasting and cleaning inside, and maxing the fan speed with Razer Synapse, I was impressed with how cool the laptop was (70-75°C CPU, 60-65 °C GPU when gaming), and the performance was pretty much as good as it was when the laptop was new. I fortunately never had a problem with BSODs, the few ones that I got occurred when I undervolted the CPU more than I was supposed to (ended up just keeping the original undervolt, no BSODs since). Still love this machine and I don't regret buying it, as it delivers the performance that I wanted for games, and it's a pleasure to work on. I'll definitely be sending it to the shop for maintenance every 6 months to keep it clean and to re-apply thermal paste.

Yeah, my 2019 Blade 15 Advanced has been shitting the bed recently... CPU temps are pinned at 100C even on not very demanding titles, frames have gone down significantly since I bought it. @@killerofprimes Well, until my toolkit comes I turned off turbo boost in the bios which has brought me down to 80C and I still get 220fps in CS (Not surprised) and 60-80fps in heavier UE4 games like Insurgency Sandstorm. It was throttling pretty hard, because even with Turbo boost off it's still getting around the same frames as when it was on. At 100C with Turbo it was at around 4GHz GPU still stays in the 80s and runs anywhere between 1.3-1.6GHz.

As a Razer Blade 15 user myself, I would like Razer to improve on their keyboard esp. with key travel. Man, they are nice to look at but it is too shallow. Do a mechanical option like what Aourus G14. Next, that annoying power thicc cable, they are annoying. Next, 99 watt battery (that would be awesome). Then, brighter screen. Lastly, AMD Ryzer cpu (they are killing it now) . Despite those flaws, I love my Blade15. Hoping it will last long.

Have a Blade 2018 - Advanced Model with a 1070-Max Q. Bought it in Nov 2018. First, my laptop started shocking me when I touched the body of the laptop. Then the webcam started having grey interlacing artifacts. Then the microphone just died, so I had to do calls with a microphone plugged into the 3.5mm jack. Then the battery started swelling. Got in touch with Razer. First RMA happened. Battery issue fixed, but they forgot to send my 230w adapter back and fix the microphone. Now, the laptop is again sent for the 2nd RMA. Hopefully, this time around I don't need to have another 20 day RMA process. It's a good laptop with a good screen. But it does run hot. It does have reliability issues. The customer service is responsive most of the time. But, the service center engineers might be overworked as right now they are missing a few details during the repair process.

I still have the 2018 advanced model. The pros: great screen, good performance for me, great looks and build quality. The cons: I don't know if it's just my unit, but speakers are very underwhelming, they sound too compressed even on lower volumes (20-30), and above 90 they distort. Had screen issues six months in, ENDLESS back and forth with customer support for 4-5 months before sending it for repairs. I got it back a couple of weeks later, panel replaced, but with sloppy assembly (bezel squished and not glued properly at one corner), trackpad not flush with the body (one side dipped) and can't be clicked anymore, well it can, but now you need to engage your shoulder and back muscles for it. The screen is also slightly bent on one side which is only seen when the lid is closed. Let me remind you this is not a cheap laptop, and I get there can be defective units, but the customer support is the reason why my next laptop won't be a Razer. Edit: an hour later I discovered that one of the symptoms of a swollen battery is actually a protruding trackpad, so there's that.

One of them used ti be a 2018 model but the fans broke so many times, they had to send a refurbished model and the refurbished model was broken out of the box. And then they sent me a 2019 model that finally works. I hope it keeps working because the process was a nightmare. The customer service is terrible. Im almost ready to stop buying their products. They have the worst customer service out of any company I know. And then on top of that I had to work on getting the razer care transferred over to the new units, because the razer care had not started yet and that process was also awful. They definitely need way better customer support. Some of these mistakes could be easily forgiven if they had amazon-like customer support.

Completely to agree with this; from start to end, it took 2 whole months before my unit was repaired. Thermals in the 2018 models are so bad I feel it should be recallable and it seems razer agrees, as after mentioning this in an angry email after a month of pointless back and forth (with presumably an automated service), razer immediately escelated my case and the unit was fixed within a further 2 weeks... I bought a blade 15 in 2018 and had to return it because the LCD was terrible. I purchased the Mercury white model last year and the bezel around the screen was damaged and the top part of the frame was slightly bent out of the box. I couldn’t return it I needed it for my college classes. I was told to send it in for repairs in the winter. I couldn’t get a hold of anyone, then I was going to ship it out to them in the summer. It took two months to finally get someone on the phone. They couldn’t fix it, offered to replace it with the black model or have me wait for who knows how long for the white model. I have to wait now a month to get mine back from them. From that point I have to return it to bestbuy with my warranty to buy a new laptop. I love razers headsets and keyboards. I love the blades design, but they have terrible quality control in my experience. I want to buy a new one when I get my money back, but I can’t give this company over $2000.00 again for a machine that isn’t in perfect condition. I’ve owned several Blade 15’s and ran into issues with most of them. On my 144hz 2080MQ model the screen has different hues on the left and right. Might be an issue with the factory calibration but is very noticeable on white websites. Literally each half of the screen looks like it was calibrated differently (could be a bad backlight). Secondly I find lightning devices don’t receive enough power from the lightning port and bug out (m.2 enclosure connects and disconnects rapidly and isn’t related to the port snugness) on my first razer it worked just fine. I recently upgraded to the newest 300hz 2080 super model and ran into weird performance issues. For instance out of the box overwatch runs at ~200 fps. If I unplug the laptop while gaming the frames drop to 32 which is expected. I disable the GeForce battery saver and it still stays at 32 (at that point it should jump to 60). Once I plug the laptop back in the FPS will either stay at 32 or sometimes will go up to ~ 95 and no higher. I’ve tried everything imaginable including software updates on GeForce/synapse/intel, updated the bios, rebooted. I even uninstalled the driver for the power controller. Nothing would get the performance back. At that point I exchanged it as I thought it was a lemon. Got the replacement and the same issues plagued this one. At this point I believe it’s a synapse software issue with the optimus stuff not allowing the gpu to run correctly. I gave up on razer at this point and I’m preparing it for return as we speak. Bought a Zepherus G14 for half the price of the razer and have been very happy with the little power house. Razer makes beautiful laptops but I’ll be damned if I pay a premium for a headache.

There was an issue where my computer crashed like there was no tomorrow to the point where I got stuck in a bios loop, but that was from a faulty component- when I addressed it to them they sent me the information to send it over immediately and I got it within 2 weeks and I’ve never had a problem since. The heating does get a little absurd but I can attribute that to the fact that I’m in the attic while it’s summer. It does collect dust quicker than every other laptop I used but it’s easy to clean. It runs games for me perfectly (when plugged in of course) and it’s never struggled to maintain 60+ fps or even 120+ fps. I’ve had like no connectivity issues, lags, dips in frames or anything like that and it just feels sleeeeek. I had that screen issue, it seems to be a problem with the drivers. That happened a lot to me when I used Geforce Experience to update the nVidia drivers, and the issue got solved when I downloaded the drivers from Razer's website. That fixed the problem for several months, when it returned I re-installed the drivers again and haven't had a problem with the screen since.

I bought a 2019 240hz, 2070mq at Best Buy for a great deal. Around 1799 iirc. It was a good laptop, the hinge mechanism had a weird click when opening or closing. I was fine with it but returned it due to wanting to build a gaming desktop instead. Few months later I sold my MacBook Pro 15 and bought another blade, this time the 2019 144hz 2070mq for a good deal as well. This laptop was a little quieter than the first one, same low cpu temps (80ish) and low GPU temps (70ish). I gave this one to my wife and I bought myself a 2020 advanced 300hz 2070super mq. This laptop is perfect. No creaks, excellent temps, not loud at all. I can game anywhere without the fans sounding like a jet engine like other laptops (sorry MSI and Alienware). Yes, razer will limit performance to keep temps and noise at a minimum but , to me, it’s wort the sacrifice for a better experience. Imagine my embarrassment when I’m gaming at a Starbucks on a MSI gs66 and the fans got too loud some people asked if my laptop was fine, I couldn’t hear due to the headset. But what an embarrassment. I did purchase a 3 year protection plan at Best Buy in case accidents or issues happen.

My battery started bulging after 2 years I just ordered a new one for 87$. I use this laptop at college for gaming and school. For gaming it works perfectly fine. For school however, it’s hot, sometimes loud, and doesn’t have the best battery life. It does what I need it to do though so for my specific case I am happy with it.

Prior to getting a 2020 Blade 15 Base, I had purchased 4 used Razer laptops of varying vintages. All of them developed some issue that required either returning them for a refund or selling for a substantial financial loss. I should have learned my lesson, but no other laptop I could find had the combination of hardware, upgradability, and style of the Blade. Plus, I have a Razer mouse and keyboard for my desktop, so there was seamless integration there. I've had no issues with my current Blade in the few weeks I've owned it. Temperatures are excellent, the fans aren't obnoxiously loud under load, and battery life is decent - about 4-5 hours at low brightness and with CPU turbo boost disabled. Time will tell how long it will last, but I have an extended warranty from Best Buy just in case.

I've got a 2019 advanced model 2070 Max-Q. Had issues with the touchpad twice now in the last 2 years. Was in warranty so alright I guess but inconvenient. Between these issues the laptop has been an absolute joy to use. Love it. Just shouldn't be running into this many issues on such an expensive laptop (I take really good care of it too and still had issues) If I had to do it again, I'd probably choose something else... I'm a sucker for the design tho

That's why even though I get tempted by the design of Razer blade from time to time, I still go to proper/experienced hardware manufacturers like Asus and Dell. I mean they are not perfect or anything, but at least there are certain characteristics that you can expect from them as they have a longer list of records.

my experience with razer laptops is the worse. Had 2 dead motherboards, one short circuit that burned the power supply cable and melted my carpet. All with 6 months. Razer support is trash and its sad since it was such an expensive machine. After they "fixed" it for the 3rd time i sold it on eBay losing about 40% of the money. I cant use such a bad laptop in terms of reliability sorry.

Owner of a 2019 RTX2070 blade advanced - for a year or so. Only hard issue I had was it not turning on on first try. It kept looping between razer's logo and black screen, then rebooting. Nowadays, I still hold my breath every time I try to turn it on, but everything works smoothly. Sometimes, as it is hooked to an external monitor through a tb3 dock, the notebook screen will not turn on, but pressing any button on the external monitor will turn it on and it works fine. Changed a lot of settings to try and solve this, but no luck here. Aside from that, pretty much any issues I had was solved by uninstalling the peripherals manufacturers programs (razer's own synapse, g hub from logitech, iCue from corsair, etc.). The wifi signal is significantly worse on this machine than any other that I ever used, probably due to the metal chassis. When on the go I carry with me a cheap wifi dongle that solves it, and at home it's always hooked to an ethernet cable (also through the tb3 dock). My final thoughts after a year: The performance is on par to other notebooks with the same config I tried (no comparison here to full tower desktops), but the premium price goes to the details I like so much: construction, butter smooth the trackpad, gorgeous screen and viewing real estate, and the aesthetics features: rgb backlight, unibody chassis design, stealthy look for a gaming notebook, etc. I was fully aware that it wasn't the best bang for the buck when I bought it. But I was turning 30, wanted something cool to gift myself and I chose this notebook for the occasion. Luckly I did not regret so far.

Battery budge curse has came upon my laptop, recently learned that its not really even the battery's fault in the first place but rather the laptop getting too hot and making the battery expand. The battery max temp is 65c and if you've ever owned a razer you know thats a joke under high load. Big tip to help prevent another battery replacement soon, When replacing battery also replace the thermal compound!
