Razer Edge WiFi Handheld Review- Not so cutting edge?

Right. You could get an s21 Ultra with the Kishi for less than the 5G version of the edge. That setup will be better IMO, plus it's a whole phone!

Not really. The kishi is $100 on its own. You'd be looking at at least $500 or $600 total for something of similar power.

@@alfredellis8549 it’s far from the most powerful chip in an android device. I have one and it’s noticeable less powerful than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 (the Gen 2 is now out) it’s pretty much an SD 888+ It’s “the most powerful” android based handheld on a technicality; they didn’t include phones in the comparison. A current gen or last gen flagship will outperform the Razer edge (I have tested and confirmed this)

I wrote up this whole long multi paragraph comment but then my internet cut out and I lost it, so here is the gist: 1) This thing is overpowered and overpriced for cloud gaming. You can get a cheaper device or just a controller for whatever phone you own to get a similar experience (and then you can use your phones data for one the go streaming). 2) This thing isn't top of the line for Android gaming and emulators, even for the price. The specs compete against 2 year old flagships now. You can get a Legion Y70 and a GameSir X2 pro for the same price as the Edge Wifi ($330 for the phone, $65 for the controller) which gets you a Snapdragon 8+ gen 1 and 8GB of RAM. It greatly outperforms the Edge even when you account for potential throttling due to the passive cooling. In the 3D Mark Wildlife Stress Test, the Legion throttles from 10,811 to 9,870 over the 20 minute stress test, but that is still double the performance the Edge has at the end of the same test.

Exactly! Why so wide? Mostly everything is made for 16x9, sure there are PC games that can scale and maybe cloud streaming but.. I don't know why they did this. I have an Odin, I love it! And it isn't as wide as this thing heh.

The whole idea of a separate controller attached to a tablet makes lots of sense and gives amazing versatility to the device. But Razer has to improve certain things. The tablet must be at 7"+ inches (8'' like the PS portal would be amazing) otherwise as many viewers said, you can use your phone instead. In that size there is a valid reason to use the Razer instead of your phone and also to use the tablet for other content consumption. It would make perfect sense and I would buy one tomorrow as with one purchase I would have a tablet, a gaming console and a controller to use with my phone when I don't wanna carry the edge around.

The difference is the edge has a active cooling system. Let me explain my s23 ultra with the kishi v2 will not be the same experience if I'm gaming with let's say call of duty warzone or fortnite because the s23 ultra will trottle heavily once it starts to heat up while the edge will be fine because of those fans, making it more powerful in long term sessions. Plus you can get the edge for $250 which isn't bad because you can't really get a phone with the same specs for that price. Plus you can remove the kishis v2 pro and attach the kishi ultra giving you a full controller experience. Another thing is you can actually charge the edge while gaming heavily and it will not slow the device down because of the active cooling. Try doing that with the s23 ultra it will get so hot and the games will start lagging.

Remember the razer zephyr, they are still out of stock 3 years later and they even revoked their n95 mask rating based on the fact they were about to be sued for allowing scalpers to sell medical grade items

I really don't know why they went with a 21x9 screen, with rounded corners for the screen, why? This would be sooo great if they just stuck to 16x9 for borderless streaming, unless it scales to 21x9? Also we know why phones went to 21x9 generally was to fill up the top and bottom bezels when we went full screen, it doesn't really work when gaming is mostly done horizontally, at least for these types of games. Does it scale for Xbox Gamepass etc? First time I'm seeing a review of this, good one! Thanks!

As good as the screen looks, my biggest problem with it is the aspect ratio and the rounded corners. Gamepass does not scale with it and you have very large black bars on the left and right.

The Razer Edge is a nice device, but the software is very bad. Razer needs to develop a dedicated software for this device like the Retroid Pocket. There's even GammaOS for Anbernic devices, I wish I had bought a Retroid Pocket.

I just bought a Pixel 7 Pro as my first flagship in a very long time(my last flagship was a Note 4), and at this rate, I'd rather have a general purpose device than a dedicated device. I'm sure Razer will optimize the G3X to get rid of those stutters.
