Gaming giant Razer has partnered with a small company called Clearbot to help design an autonomous trash-collecting boat that can identify floating garbage in the water, catalog it and then collect it into a waste container. The collaboration is part of Razer's Go Green with Razer initiative to help startups working on sustainability and green technology projects.

In fact if they use human to drive the boat you instantly have the most advanced object recognition AI in the animal kingdom and perhaps this could be used as training models for the AI. Razer products never last. I have much more durable peripherals that I've kept after they're no longer in use including some from the early 90's. every time my razer keyboards brake I pull out the same old Satek keyboard I retired before switching to razer. some of razers mice and keyboards only last a year in regular use. I have a naga Trinity from last Christmas that already has broken side buttons. my friend's headphones broke after a month. I always know that I'm sacrificing longevity for razer's quality and that razer products quickly turn into the trash that I won't be able to re-use or give to a friend like I'm used to. I kind of thought high-end products that don't last very long was razer's thing. The new configurator doesn't even support the old gamepads. I had to switch out my full set of everything to make the jump to the new synapse so I wouldn't have to have both of them installed.

They should start by making recyclable and compostable packaging for their millions of products. I'm sure at some point they'll realize some of the trash they pick up is their own so instead of doing this flashy cool PR stunt that makes them seem green, maybe do stuff that matters? So much of their products just become eWaste too that is sifted through by impoverished people in other countries. Close the loop. Make recyclable electronic products and reusable or compostable packaging and then other companies will follow suit. No point putting on a bandage if you're just gonna keep stabbing yourself
@Botanifiles

Let´s be realistic, it´s a good thing to care about the ocean. But how many of these tiny tiny boats you need to clean, lets say Rio de Janeiro?? A thousand of those boat would do absolutely nothing! And they have to recharge the battery, so they are not autonomous, and the garbage compartment its very small so they fill up. Also you need insane ammounts of these vessels to cover up a big area so that mean a higger rate of mechanical and electrical failure. In my opinion this proyect is full of leaks.

Look at its little trash can that's so cute. The ocean is a vast place though and it works only on the surface? I don't think it will make a blind bit of difference. Feels a bit like pissing into the wind. Make thousands of them and as unforgiving as mother nature is they will end up contributing to the pollution in the ocean. We need to address the cause of the problem not the symptoms!!

You're fixing the problem that's what the companies will say. They're not going to change what packaging they use they would cost them money

Razer has the most badass color scheme and symbol. The only thing they make that i actually like though is the Razer Lancehead mouse.

Not a bad idea great for what it does but does it dive under water as most plastic in the sea is underwater.
