Probably the best review and comparison video I've ever seen on KZbin. I'm retiring my 5th and last G13 this week for the Orbweaver. Just can't find replacements anymore under a hundred bucks used. Going to be an adjustment after so many years but looking forward to what Razer has to offer.

I started with the Razer Nostromo and eventually upgraded to an Orbweaver and never looked back. I used to have wrist pains after prolonged use on the keyboard but not anymore. Yes there is a learning curve while you are trying to get used to it but its all worth it. I believe I'm a better player gaming wise than without it.

Pretty much the same thing for me, except I started off with a N52 before Razer bought them out. I kept wearing out the membrane versions, but I've had the Orbweaver over 4 years now. I did have the wrist pad issue too, but besides that I'm completely satisfied with it. I'm not sure I could ever go back to a keyboard again.

@@JohnG228 I have been using my Nostromo for years now, about 10 actually, but I know soon it will stop working and the Nostromos are no longer around. I like using the thumbstick to move. Can the Orbweavers be used to move like the nostromo's? That is what has held me back from buying one.
@JohnG228
@JohnG228 5 жыл бұрын
@@WSPBane It could be me, but I liked they old N52 better for the thumb stick. I use the thumb stick on the Orbweaver to move foreards and backwards. But have never really like it for strafing or turning. But that's just me, I've seen that others like it for strafing. I still wouldn't quit using it though, I've also had this one for a few years so the thumb stick might have gotten better.

Idk how many years I had my g13 for... i remember having it back in tbc. I remember the exact day I got it. My father took me to the only best buy at the time that was selling it. Was the only one left on the shelve for $60. Even to this day I still using it in BFA. The only problem is that logitech program does not work nicely with the g13.

I've had a G13 for like 10 years and the only button gone out is the one below the joystick. I was looking for an updated replacement and considering the Orbweaver but that one has 2 keys less than the G13. The G13 is built like a tank.

I've been using the G13 since October of 2012 and I've never had any of the issues with the software that you are talking about. I've made a custom setup for every game I've ever installed on my system and never had any problems if I specifically choose the exe file for the software detection. I think the problems you were having were due to a fault in the G13 hardware, or possibly a loose USB plug. Also, Cheshire cat at 8:58 through 9:24.

awesome and still applicable in 2020 where the g13 is aver $300 to replace :). While I myself have never had problems with the software, I am just a sample of 1 and understand that others may have had issues, especially power users like yourself! Because of this review, I have purchased a Razor Tartarus pro. That and all other manufactures of game pads out there just use "half a keyboard" method, literally replicating the left half of a keyboard which does NOT help as then I have to change game bindings in software, instead of mapping keys to keypresses. Again, Thank you for a great review! Glad to see you still active!

I bought my G13 when it was still pretty new, which means I’ve had it for 8-10 years. The screen has started blinking in and out or sometimes going blank entirely, but the keypad itself is still functional and it still works with new Logitech Gaming software versions. I really love this thing because it has so many buttons on all sides of WASD, plus a big Space key for jumping, plus that incredible joystick on the thumb. I bind it to the numbers 1-5 (5 when the stick is pushed in), and that’s the fastest way for me to switch weapons or trigger skills or activate unit groups without taking my other fingers off WASD. I email Logitech yearly to ask them to make a new G13 but they just don’t seem to understand what a winner they’ve got on their hands and are willing to let it die. Motivates me to make my own 3D printed G13 clone when mine finally croaks.

A tip to stop the rubber from peeling off is to clean all contacted surfaces with a baby wipe after use. It is the acids and oils from your skin that causes the rubber to swell and cause the glue to separate from the rubber. This is true for all soft touch rubber surfaces.

Enjoyed your comparison! I personally have had a Razer Tartarus for many years now that I've used to play Diablo 3 very effectively with. I have been extremely reluctant to try it with WoW for fear that I won't be able to play as effectively as I would with a traditional mouse / keyboard combo. Since I do hop between a desktop and laptop rig of comparable specs quite regularly, I decided to finally take the plunge and use it for WoW. I was hoping at the beginning of the video that you'd give hints as to keybindings, and YOU DID! It makes my life much easier since there aren't really any folks out there who explain their keybindings or give a hypothetical template for example purposes. I now have direction, thank you!!

Great vid hazel! I have been using a g13 for about a year and it's fantastic. Another thing you can do to help with getting used to the pad is use bartender to organize your action bars in the shape of the pad. That helped me a lot so I could easily see what ability was on what key at the beginning. Question for you on the razr, how is the joystick movement compared to the g13? I've heard it's fiddly compared to the analog stick of the g13 that's what makes me shy away from getting a razr.

I started with the old Nostromo until it finally was unsupported, then moved to the G13 until I had joystick issues and then to the orbweaver recently. For me, I found the orbweaver joystick hard to get used to after the G13 as it is 8 direction movement, fairly sensitive and it's difficult to be sure which of the 8 directions you are actually directing it to at times. I haven't tried to see if I can reduce that to 4 point movement yet (I believe it is possible) but that might help. The G13 was easier to control, however I found that it was also the first thing to break for me. My G13 lasted a few years, but I'd had to repair and take apart that joystick so many times. For the past 3 months leading up to having the spare cash for an orbweaver, I'd had to put up with it randomly registering movement when nothing was touching the joystick. Always fun to have your casts interrupted by movement (thank heavens I wasn't doing serious raids or anything) or random strings of letters appearing in your typing.

I know this is over a year old but I have been using a Nostromo for 10 years now but I am sure it wont be long before it stops working. My concern with the tartus and orbweaver when they dropped was would the new joy sticks still be use able for movement. I had watch either a Swifty or someone else review it and my impression in my memory is they said the joystick didnt work that great for movement so I've put it off. I am wondering how your experience has been, were you able to get the control to work for movement?

Great review. I purchased both Razer Orbweaver Chroma and Logitech G13. I got them a great prices. I found that since they don't make Logitech G13 anymore the prices are out of control for as little as $70 and at most $499 for just used. with the middle like around $150. I bought mine used for $40 from someone who regretted selling at that price. The Razer Orbweaver Chroma is $99 at Best Buy but I have seen it online for as much at $150. I bought mine used for $50. I want to reiterate what Hazel said that you have to give it time to get used to it. I hated both when I got them but I have since gotten used to them. I have used the Razer Orbweaver Chroma a few time and I don't like how the keys are set up. I kept moving my hand and losing my place on the keyboard at the most opportune times. like Auto running into a mob. to be fair I have been using Logitech G13 for about 2 weeks and i love it. quick good and bad for both. G13 love the keyboard placement I have spare buttons to the left and right of the keyboard. I have more macros I can create. on the Orbweaver I like the thumb placement of the buttons.I don't like the joystick on both was not able to use is comfortable. On the Orbweaver i felt like I didn't have enough keys to use. I didn't didn't like the wrist rest. I always felt like I had to reach for all the keys. I have to say that I love the Logitech G13 alot but I wonder why they stopped making it.

Still waiting for the ambidextrous or even lefties (used with the right hand) version of this kind of thing since the very first time nostromo launched - _- and up until now, no company even bother to make it. Good review. I've had a G13 for 10+ years and the only issue I've had with them is that they do wear out. My current one is my 3rd or 4th. I do like that the G13 key layout is wider rather than taller so the side keys which are my esc, tab, shift, etc, feel more natural. I don't allow it to auto pick the profile and I do set up a new profile for every game I play on Steam and then manually switch between them. Not once have I had any issue with it losing or switching profiles mid game or at all for that matter. The controller software isn't the most up to date but is pretty simple and easy to use. I'm only leaving this comment here as I've never had the issues you describe with the G13 and I wanted to offer a counter perspective.

Thanks for the video. I have been using my g13 since 2009. I used to play WOW heavily, and loved the g13. I still game frequently, and the g13 is still working. The software has gotten much better in the past 3 years or so. The binding of profile to .exe works almost perfectly now. The biggest problem is when my computer reboots, about half the time the software will not load and the g13 will not respond. Having said that, I have gotten addicted to my mechanical keyboard, I do wear those out frequently as I am in IT and telecommute, and have been thinking of upgrading my game pad to mechanical as well. Your review is helpful, I am still hesitant to switch due to having the same gamepad for 8.5 years, and my hands knows it so well, I don't even look at it anymore. Thanks again for the review.

Biggest downsides in comparison: Orbweaver has no onboard memory so you are out of luck if you have to go somewhere you can't install your drivers. Orbweaver has 2 less columns of keys. I liked how G13 lets you map your entire row of default mmo keybinds in just two rows: 1 through 6 and 7 through = G13 is now discontinued and I feel like Razer is inferior substitute I am forced into after 10 years of using it.

I've been using a Logi g-13 since 2009, (also an MMO player - Everquest in my case) I've gone through 1 at this point (jan 2020) so i do have agree with assertions regarding the keys wearing out over time. I don't agree with the point about a braided cord being superior to the g-13's though - as I was taking it to work *cough cough* with me everyday for a several years. I never had an issue with the software as described, there is an internal memory profile vs. the software program, which can cause a disagreement between them if they are set differently or the button for swapping profiles is hit accidentally. I definitely appreciate Hazels input it just wasn't my experience with the device (still have one on the desktop). What I am curious about though is if Razor has dealt with their quality issues? They have always been very hit or miss in my experience, tending to be either broken out of the box, withing in a few weeks or solid as a rock years later. If you do respond to - that's my number one concern about going with Razor products - and any thoughts there would be greatly appreciated! Regardless of our differing experiences with the G-13 I did appreciate the comparison and presentation. Subscribed. :)

The orbweaver is OK, but the lack of main board buttons compared to the G13 is bothersome, and forced me to start using a MMO mouse. I liked the hardware of the G13 a lot more than the Orbweaver personally. I had two of them over a period of probably 7 years. The software is what threw me over the edge to Razer. I wish they'd make a G13 successor because otherwise I won't go back to one. After almost 5 years though, my d-pad is starting to wear out. I works great for the first 5-10 mins of gameplay, then it starts stuttering unless I press really hard. Thinking about the Tartarus V2 now.... unless a V2 orbweaver is coming.

I realize this is an old review and the G13 is now out of production but I thought I would tell my experience with it just for fun. If I had to replace my G13 today I would probably end up with a Razer product. I've been using my G13 for just over ten years. I've put thousands of hours worth of play into the G13. I use it for all gaming except games that I like analog for (driving and flying games) when I use a controller. I actually did use the thumb stick for several years in analog mode to drive in games but it was not ideal. Eventually I modded the stick head with moldable plastic to be like a standard convex headed thumbstick shape which made it much better. All buttons still work great. Before having it I broke a membrane keyboard W key about every 9 months. It only took a few years to wear the paint off of the G4 "W" position key but it still works great. There were a few (very few) problems with the software losing profiles while playing. This seemed to be because of a background program grabbing priority through a pop-up even if it did not display on screen. I haven't had that problem in many years even with Windows 10 sometimes sending pop-ups through the game occasionally. In some games when alt+tabbing to desktop then back it would not grab the profile correctly on occasion. This was fixed by alt+tabbing out again, clicking desktop, and then clicking the running game icon to go back to the game. Using the software to build profiles and such worked fine, no problems there. A few years ago there was a problem with the Logitech Gaming software not loading right with startup but that was fixed for me. The texture does eventually wear away on the wrist rest. It is fairly thick so this is not really a problem for use, only aesthetically. I have average sized male hands and the G13 fits me well. Of course, very small hands may have problems.

Yeah it was discontinued sometime around 2017, maybe even before this review was posted. People have begged Logitech, made petitions and done everything they can to convince the company to start up production again or ideally make a mechanical successor. However Logitech has ZERO interest in it since they only cater to the E-sports crowd now, producing cheap plastic with bright lights, over marketed and over priced made in china "Gamer gear" rather than the quality, innovative products that they used to. Hence why they don't use cherry keys, instead some home branded knockoffs, they stopped making their mice with quality Japanese switches and replaced them with cheap Chinese switches prone to double click and hold click issues.

Good review, I currently use the G13 and have since Cata. Used in pairing with my razer naga epic mouse. G13-main heals, Naga- cool downs. I play as a healer. I use the joystick for my heals, Use 4 of the G keys for my movement. I haven't had to many issues personally with the software. I have had a couple here and there but not as many as you seem to have had. My keys still work perfectly fine, with pretty heavy use. It is a very durable game pad though, looking into buying a new one. Just to have a new version of it, I know it's due to die since I've had it for so long. I have not used the orbweaver, but have used the tartarus. That would be one model version lower than orbweaver. I did not like the tartarus, for a few reasons. The wrist rest did not feel good I couldn't find a setting that worked for me. The pad in general is to small and light. felt like I was gonna crush it while using it. orb might be bigger similar to the g13. It has a nice wide base so you won't mistakenly move it around to much while raiding. The joystick: the angle just didn't feel good to me. Also it was more of a knob over a stick. The 8 direction stick I personally didn't like. G13 has a 4 way, which is what I wanted for my 4 main heals. I tried to get use to the 8way, but kept missing due to the angle of the stick. The 2 side buttons by the stick I use my for my CD's, placement of those wasn't something could get comfortable with. pros of the tartarus: key buttons them selfs were nice and responsive, the cable was also braided. used it for about a week and reverted back to the G13. I would try out the orbweaver only if I could find a store that had a display model I could hold and mess around with for a few mins.

I bought a Razer Nostromo about 3 years ago and I love it. I paired it with a Sharkoon Drakonia mouse which has 3 extra buttons. Those 2 Buttons serve me as my modifiers. I only use one Profile on the nostromo on all my charakters + games and it works just fine. After a short while you memorize where your kick is on all charakters etc. Wouldn't ever play without that thing again :)

At 5:42 Hazelnut talks about the stealth version. If just like me you didn't find the stealth version and only have Razer Tartarus V2 (Orbweaver of 2020) and you hate mechanical click sounds with a vile passion. (Very reasonable if you are) Then go for the Razer Mecha-Membrane version. You can take the keys off very easy, inside you'll find a small iron clip (which is entirely redundant and only is there for the sound) They are very easy to take out with tweasers and once out will give you a very very quite Razer. (You can also google it and you'll find pictures how to do it) The Analog Optical Switch version is quieter than the mechanical one but not it is still loud. The quietest option is Mecha-membrane version and taking out the click-clips.

You can also export your keybinding setup with the gamepads so I don't know why you would need to take a screenshot. Just export the config and save the file somewhere

Hi great vid! I have a G13 and I feel the software run just fine, you definetly can automatically switch profile based on the program exe file that you run (I have 11 profiles setup atm) and there is very low chance this is not going to work, maybe once a week or less you have to kill the system tray application and start it again to have it back working as expected. Also you can export your profiles to a file and eventually load them back on the device in case you lose them, without having to take snapshots :) I love my G13 :)

I originally tried the Nostromo, I think it was, which is now the orb weaver, and I hated it. Then I got a G13 and I LOVED it. I recently started playing WoW again, but I can’t find my G13, and since they’re discontinued they’re priced outrageously by people that know their value. I may have to get that Razer.

I did the same thing you mentioned with learning a new character while learning the pad and now I have it memorized so that on all my characters certain buttons are fillers, others are cd's and others are defensives/interrupts and that helps when playing multiple characters

Have you seen the price of G13s on Amazon and E-bay? They were $80 new. They are now selling for $300-400 for new ones now that Logitech discontinued them.

Biggest issues I've had with the Orbweaver is the rubber peeling and WASD mechanical keys wearing out after 4 years, but I fixed those with glue and replacing the WASD keys with cherry MX reds, if you are okay at soldering it should last a long time. I find the software a bit crappy too.

I started with the Nostromo N52 to play MMO's and I've never looked back. A speed pad in tandem with a mouse such as the Naga, took my playing ability to a whole new level. I own both the Orbweaver and the G13 and both have there pro's and cons... I personally prefer the G13 simply because of the layout of the keys... There is more keys towards the top than the bottom.. I don't really utilize the keys closets to my palm so any keys down there loses its viability for me personally.

I just got the Orbweaver but am taking it back. Palm rest is the problem. It’s too high with no way to lower it. That’s why it’s hard to reach the keys for us small handed people. The palm rest is supposed to be for base of the palm, not the middle of your hand. It’s more a hand rest than a palm rest.

I loveeeee my g13, unfortunately they aren't built with the best quality materials, all light cheap plastic pieces. Ive gone through 3 in the last 8 years, now if somthing goes i just fix with a part from one of the older ones as they're very easy to take apart and swap parts. If they made a new version of the g13 with mechanical keys and a better quality, more durable analog stick it would be hands down the best available option. my biggest issue is after a few years the analog stick will start to wear and it gets stuck in it's housing in certain positions because the analog stick is rubber and it's constantly rubbing on the housing's plastic edge, slowly wearing away at the stick, once worn through to a certain point that's when the function starts to decline and the stick begins to stick in certain directions. I'm going to pull the trigger and try the razer versions but I am so in love with the layout and size of g13 and having an analog stick i absolutely love for my q,w,e, binds, never having to waste actual keys for movement like you would the razers.

In terms of MMOs, how do these types of keypads fare compared to something like an MMO mouse like the Logitech G600? Seeing as how they're both designed to put more accessible keybinds at your fingertips. Is it better to use them in tandem with each other, or just one over the other?

As a computer tech and an ex-sales person with computers & accessories I can inform everyone that in Logitech vs Razor that Logitech almost NEVER came back our stores. Whereas Razer products are returned daily and constantly RMA'd for randomly failing. The keys would wear out fast and stop responding, the cords would short out, the RGB would fail etc. Junk! But fanboys/girls insist their gear is good although by statistics, Razer is horrible equipment. Logitech has been durable and well designed, high quality products for decades. It also depends on the user's bad habits. But I go by RMA numbers before I purchse hardware. So Logitech wins my loyalty and has for decades.

Great Review! And finally someone who speaks at a pace and clarity that I can understand(not to mention, you just have a great voice). Additionally, it's nice having a female's take on a product that I've been considering. My now-dead (thanks to a Windows 10 driver conflict) zBoard FANG was the most amazing tool I have ever used. All the buttons were exactly where I needed them, it's super comfortable and worked well with the relaxed hand position. With that being said, it's a major disappointment that zBoard(now SteelSeries) has not reproduced this marvel in design and simply provided a good driver that DOESN'T conflict with Windows 10. Since that's the case, I need a damn good gaming pad to replace it and so far, based on the design to which I am so accustomed, NOTHING has been looking good. Thanks to this review and how thorough you were, this one is looking as though it may serve my purpose. I know it will require a great muscle memory learning curve, but it sure beats getting accustomed to the keyboard again(which never really happened in the first place). Because of how bad a keyboard is, I actually looked up an alternative WAY WAY back and discovered it was right at the dawn of these new gaming pad designs and SteelSeries was one of the pioneers. Damn, I talk a lot.... Anyway, thanks for selling the idea to me. I'll let you know how it goes.
