Venaloid I think part of the beauty was it was such a simple design - literally a pincer on wheels. Engineers often consider it a good job not when they've added as many things to a design as possible but when they've taken away as many things as possible and still have it work.

I actually got a chance to look at razer close up, my school offered tickets for it to the those at the top of their class. It's design is amazing. The amount of power that claw has amazing, it is without a doubt the ultimate battle bot. I'm on my schools robotic warrior team and nothing we build could take it out.

I think that this just proves that razor would utterly thrash tornado in a fair fight. And for all those people who say that tornado wasn't cheating by using a frame - I'm pretty sure there's a rule saying you can't modify you're robot just for one battle to exploit the weaknesses in the robot you're about to fight.

Razer vs Hypnodisc would have been absolutely epic - just a shame the two heaviest hitters in the history of the show never went at each other, they were head and shoulders above the rest. Chaos 2 had the best control but had the easy option of a flipper (albeit a very good one), Pussycat was a brilliant design but lacked oomph, and Tornado was strong but run by a bunch of cheats.

Whilst it's probably unofficially cheating, it's still pretty scummy. The infamous Razer vs Tornado match which involved the scaffolding on Tornado and hook on Razer's beak is what I'm on about - Tornado was very aggressive, but eventually Razer hooked underneath the scaffolding and tried to pit them. With the scaffolding though, Tornado was too big for the pit and that, in my opinion, is cheating, it's a massive advantage and an unfair one at that. Razer took the beating and was second-best, but when they managed to counter it they were in total control and had it not been for the scaffolding's "side-effect" Razer would have won.

Razer was immobile twice during the fight, once against the wall - and again when Tornado was "over" the pit. All Razer had to do was release Tornado, and back away. Just because its bigger than the pit - doesnt mean you cant "pit" it. Razer failed to do so, thus didnt deserve to win considering it was only ontop for about 10 seconds of the fight.

Was immobile twice, yet still should have won. I fail to see how being bigger than the pit doesn't make it impossible to be pitted, care to explain?! I think this is a bit like that World Cup match between Uruguay and Ghana a few years back - Uruguay were dominating, but only one goal up. Ghana had a shot which was on its way in and Luis Suarez handballed it on the line to stop it, got a red card and gave away a penalty. Ghana hit the bar with the penalty and went out whilst Uruguay progressed. The story is that Uruguay, whilst being a good team, gave Ghana one clear cut moment which should have been punished and would have been if not for the way Suarez behaved. Replace Tornado with Uruguay, Razer with Ghana and the scaffolding with Suarez and the situation is practically the same thing!

IgotPMT Whilst the frame of tornado might be bigger than the pit, its wheelbase isnt. All Razer had to do was release Tornado over the pit and back away. There are several other examples of where this classifies as being in the pit. However Razer failed to release Tornado, so effectively they was holding Tornado over the pit. Pinning isnt allowed, so whilst Razer was still holding onto Tornado, it couldnt be in the pit - Wild Thing vs Chaos 2 is a good example of that.

+retrogamer33 Modifying your robot has ALWAYS been allowed in the sport as long as you don't go over the weight limit or violate any of the other rules, and Tornado isn't the only robot to have done something like that either. In the original Battlebots season 4.0, No Apologies had the "Whyachi Tool", which was designed to push against Son of Whyachi's chassis and keep its spinning cage away. In Robotica Season 1, Hot Wheels had a net launcher added for the Fight to the Finish, while in Robotica Season 3 Juggerbot was actually equipped with an entanglement device to stop Ultraviolence's spinning blade (Robotica allowed for entanglement devices). Robogames has multiple robots that regularly make use of modifications, such as Sewer Snake's anti-spinner plow or Original Sin's blade blocker, both designed specifically with Last Rites in mind. And of course, there's Battlebots 2015, where multiple robots had weapons tailored specifically against specific types of opponents - Stinger had an anti-spinner plow, Witch Doctor was equipped with heavier armor for its fight with Tombstone and Ghost Raptor had the infamous "de-ICEr". Tornado, specifically, was a modular robot, which is EXPLICITLY allowed in the rules. That said, I'm still not a fan of Tornado's anti-razer cage since it also made Tornado too big to fit in the pit and thus circumvented one of the possible ways of being KO'd.

Let me explain...we (the members of the Robot Wars wikia, myself included) have actually gone out there, e-mailed the roboteers, and asked them questions about what really happened behind the scenes and such. Team Tornado included. "Razer were dumbfounded - understandably they asked for it to be weighted and measured, but as we knew already it followed the rules to the letter." This is what happened the first time Tornado used its cage, in the International Championships. Proving you wrong

Why the heck do people hate Tornado? It was by far my fave robot. It was the KING of the challenge belt and it was just such a persistant and powerful robot. However, the framework left it suspended over the pit, with no-way of getting out, so technically, Torndao could still be pitted and out of the match.

Razer was so deadly because it was the only one that could make a weapon that was powerful but not so powerful it would destroy the cheap hockey level lexan walls. I wish we could have seen things like Nightmare, Mauler or Mechavore in that. Think for a sec. If Tornado was a cheat, then don't you think they would have been disqualified before filming began? Mentorn knew what weapons Tornado had from the start. They banned an anti-spinner weapon because it wasn't offensive enough. If the anti-pit thing was illegal, they'd have done something about it. It's perfectly legal. I've actually read the rules. There are robots I hate, but I don't call them cheaters when they beat my favorites fair and square. A quote I found.

That's like saying Chaos 2 cheated because it flipped a robot out of the arena or kept flipping it until it was at the side wall, and it couldn't right before then - it's called good driving and if Tornado were susceptible to Razer's weapon, they should have done something about it. Well, besides adding a giant frame that's complete overkill. Also, editing. If they're caught for more than 30 seconds, they HAVE to let go or they get DQ'd. They just edited it together to make it look like that...

Razer was in a class by itself and Hypnodisc was too....Obviously Razer was the more powerful of the two, much less vulnerable to attack since all Hypnodisc had was its disc to attack with, and if something got on top of it, like 101, it slowed down. Razer was really the fiercest robot ever.

This is the thing about razer that sets him out from all the other robots, the weapon is less about chassis damage and more about sheer penetrating power and critically damaging any modules that's in the way of that beak, this is how razer managed to defeat Chaos 2, by getting behind it and using that huge penetration to get through that plexiglass and destroy Chaos 2's Co2 canister. Love razer, on the same level as behemoth in terms of my likability.

Watching this reminds me of the time I went to a small robot wars exhibition near a place called ironbridge in the UK. Tornado were there as well as Razer, chaos 2 and a few others. But the question that my ten year old self still asks is why the hell did you turn down the chance to drive Razer?????!!!!

@keith23uk it's a fair point but you can't say that Chaos 2 wasn't a brilliantly made flipper. I'm pretty sure it's the only robot to have won 2 series of the wars so I think you should be including them in there. (no other robot won more than once, sorry, I had a slight obsession back in the day)
