I have all three. The Red Tip is by far the nicest for me. It still gives smooth but very efficient shaves. Great vintage razors.

I learned to wet shave using a black handle flair tip, and I simply love it. Excellent for newcomers. My older boy also learned on it. We both now use slim adjustables, but since I also have a wet shaving channel, I do have the flair tip in my rotation. Is by far the best mild vintage razor that I own.

Every single video, without fail, my eyes always go straight to the three Super Speed display racks. I’ve got one pristine rack for the black tips in styrene cases, and one beat-up red tip rack. But my dream is to own all three like Matt’s got. Someday...

It's 3AM and this is at least the fourth video (tonight) that I've watched on the history of Gillette razors. Never would I have imagined such an expansive history -- nor would I have thought one man could know it all. Amazing history and impressive knowledge.

I’m so glad you posted this video. I recently purchased a fat boy on EBay and it came with the wrong case. I had thought the case was for a super speed and after seeing this video I was right. Ironically I was looking to purchase a period correct case for my super speed, and then I found out that the case I bought with the fat boy was the correct period case! Two birds with one stone situation! Thanks for the knowledge and showing these awesome vintage products Matt!

What about the black barreled flare tip? Is it going to be regular blade gap/angle? Also what years were the black handles produced? I have a code Y1, not sure if they were produced at the same time as Black Beauties.

My '57 Flare Tip just arrived from eBay. I'm looking forward to giving it a go. One of the wings doesn't quite fall all the way open at the end of its travel--both operate smoothly while the screw mechanism is in effect--but I'm the same age and not all of my parts work as smoothly as they once did, either. Their may be a Revamp in its future. I also have the King C. Gillette DE from Walgreens, so that blade is my reference. I'm ordering your Sensitive Skin blade sampler. Thanks!

Outstanding video, Matt. I love using these razors. Would the blue tip be considered a rarer razor since the aluminum body is more fragile than the other versions and may not last as long? Also, do you have any plans to do a video on the versions made in England - the Rockets? Keep the videos coming!
@RazorEmporium5 жыл бұрын

I have a Gillette Flare Tip „Rocket“. No Data Codes and just Gillette and Made in England. Is it called Gillette Flare Tip „Rocket“ or Gillette Flare Tip „Rocket“ Super Speed? Thanks for response and Greetings from Germany. 🙏

Hello Matt,,,,,thumbs up on the video,,,, so when did the Black tip get introduced into the world of Gillette's super speed's of razor history ? ,,,,, I thought the 3 special super speeds that came out with the painted flair tip ends were the Red Tip , Black Tip & Blue Tip and the Chrome Tip was just the typical regular Super Speed razor Gillette normally sold since they started selling super speeds ?
