I take a stock Razor MX650 and turn it into a beast with 72v and a 3000W motor. Even geared extremely low, it goes 35mph. Stay tuned for more videos with this thing!

I have an MX500 with the 48 volt version of this motor and one of the crappy controllers you talked about, it's good for about 20-25 mph with a whole lot better hill climbing ability than the stock razor, but it looks like your bike with the Kelly controller would slaughter mine. Definitely has me thinking about an upgrade. Thank you for the idea of what controller to use, I'm strongly considering it

Qs 138 70H motor (newest version) may have gone a little overkill with a 68AH NMC battery but such is life. Set up is going in a 2007 rm 125 frame so it'll be a full size dirt bike. Nice bike man! So, I have a question since I'm building one similar to yours. Would it be po0ssible to use a different Lipo because I can't seem to find one with that amount of MAH, and might you have any suggestions on which lipo I could use instead of the one in the video. (I'm only looking for about 25-30 Ish MPH with my build though). Thank you!
@AllThingsElectric_
@AllThingsElectric_ 2 жыл бұрын
Yes you can most def use different lipos. I used some 8ah 6s LiPos with a scooter build I did. The mah rating won't change the speed you get out of the bike, that has to do with voltage. These 20Ah batteries get me about 20-30 miles of range.

Three questions if you don’t mind... Have you had any issues with the chain and flywheel on this amount of power? I’ve heard some people say the flywheels snap from the torque and had to get them welded. I’ve also snapped the chain twice on my bike (before I upgraded to a 25H chain) and completely destroyed the chain tensioner from the increased speed. (My mx500 is currently running 60v 2Kw with 3.6Kw peak (60v x 60a), yours is running a 72v 3Kw with a 9.36Kw peak (72v x 130a)) Any reason you didn’t go for a sine wave controller like the kls-s controllers? From what I understand sine wave controllers are supposed to be quieter with a smoother throttle response (but more expensive) On the other hand though, I’d assume most of the sine wave benefits are negligible with a mid drive setup where the chain is responsible for most of the noise How’s the motor temp while riding? My motor tends to get too hot to touch after about 20 mins of fast riding, but I’m running SLA’s with bad voltage sag which heats it up faster

@AllThingsElectric_
@AllThingsElectric_ 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, the stock flywheel is weak, and should probably be replaced firstly. There’s a guy on here named Tim A. And he has a video about a solid upgrade. I wouldn’t weld it because I like the smooth coasting. I haven’t had issues yet though. As for the sinewave controller, it’s better for hub motors, so it really doesn’t make that big of a difference with this mid drive setup (like you said, most noise comes from chain and tensioner). Motor temp does go up, but honestly nothing to worry about. You could drill out the preexisting holes in the motor to a larger diameter to increase air flow, but it’s not terrible.
@JAEkebruh
@JAEkebruh 3 жыл бұрын
@@AllThingsElectric_ I looked at the flywheel upgrade, def gonna do that if my flywheel snaps. For now I'll just leave it as is cause I also do like the coasting without spinning the motor. I also read on endless sphere that it's suggested to put a rubber tube over the bearings of the chain tensioner to make it quieter which could be something to look into (I'd have to find that thread again though to see exactly what it was). Thanks for the info though, I'm considering doing an upgrade like this but with either li-ion or lifepo4 (cause I don't have the balls to make the jump to lipos yet haha)

I’m afraid that If that wood gets wet it could stop being an insulator and become a conductor.

thats a great point. It is, however, under the top "gas tank" and above the frame. So it would be hard to become wet, but def a good point.

I have the same motor/controller setup that I’m testing now but it runs great but in reverse. I tried to tying (11) 12v red wire to (12) forward switch white wire. When I do this it just won’t respond at all but no controller defaults either so I’m stumped. Any suggestions? I found out if I manually start the motor by hand with the throttle engaged it will work but as soon as it goes back to zero rpm it has to be manually restarted.

I got a similar motor but 48v 1800w and 5200rpm. I have put 2 6s 16ah lipo batteries from HObby King too and I have 13-80 gearing. Math shows I should at least get 30mph out of it, but I only get 20mph. How can I diagnose the issue? Controller? throttle? Batteries?
