I can't begin to thank you enough for this video. There are a ton of great MX650 modification videos out there that have plenty of detail in them that inspired me to get a 650 in the first place, but this is the first one that actual shows all the steps that other videos do off screen and then just tell you how to do. The fact that you actually showed how to recess the screws in the motor other than just saying you can do that, has been something I have been searching for and dreading to go in relatively blindly. That part is an absolute necessity that someone trying to become handy, like myself, needs to feel comfortable with potentially ruining their Razor lol. Thanks again for the guide and confidence boost. I can finally put the motor I have sitting around in my MX650 with some comfort.

I would just take a piece of wire and strip the ends and poke them in the connector to test it. It should stay in place itself, but the best way is to put one end in the middle pin; get someone to lift the motor wheel and give it full throttle, while you touch the other end of the wire to the high-speed pin, so that you can see/hear the difference.

I'm confused with what you did with old powerport. What is the elock your referring to? Did you remove the stock power port. I did and I plan on keeping stock on/off switch. I planed to use the old power port hole to put new port that is attached to battery. I don't have use for that stock port and don't want to drill any unnecessary holes. Just trying to figure out what the elock is that your referring to. Sorry I'm new to all this and have the same set up you have.
@MarleyJaxGarage2 жыл бұрын
I used the stock on off switch to control the main power between the battery and the motor. The e-lock is used as a key or switch when there is power to the controller. If you do not want to wire it up simply connect the two e-lock wires together. I used the old charging port for the e-lock and then drilled a hole lower down where the charging port for the battery could stick through.

Not working for us. bought the controller kit and the battery right from these links. Didn't do the three speed, that throttle with voltmeter, or the elock, just what came with the kit. It wasn't too difficult following your steps to hook it all up. Got it all wired up, turned on the switch - nothing. Then I took the switch out of the loop and wired the black/red from the battery straight into the controller - nothing. All we have connected are the brake wires, the blue, green, and yellow wires, the one pin connector that plugged straight in, the throttle, and the power. Any help would be appreciated in troubleshooting as there could be any number of things wrong (bad motor, bad controller, bad throttle). the controller is a black box, so no way to know what is going on inside, but if there is a way to troubleshoot that I'd love to hear. thanks

So I am running into an issue I can't figure out. My motor is not powering on. Also my throttle voltage meter is not displaying anything. I have verified there is voltage up until the last connection going into the controller. It seems no power is coming out of the controller though. I would think it is a bad controller, but I already returned a controller and motor set due to this same problem. The only thing I can think of is some wiring issue. I can't add pictures so it is hard to show my setup. I have followed your instructions pretty closely. One thing I have noticed that is different is on my mx640 is the on/off switch is wired a bit different. This is the section coming from the battery to the switch in the side plastic and then to the controller box. This section includes the online fuse. There is a red and black wired but there is also a third smaller red wire. I am not sure what this is for.
@MarleyJaxGarage2 жыл бұрын
You can send pictures to my email linked in the description if you want me to check it out. The little red wire on the side case is part of the old charging system. It provided voltage to the controller when it was being charged so you couldn’t drive it with the charger connected.
@1koosharem2 жыл бұрын
So I took a half hour and read through all the comments below and I think I found my problem. I believe I have to wire my e-lock wires together to get the controller to turn on. I thought using the e-lock wiring was optional, but it seems like if you don't wire it to a switch, then you need to connect the wires together to keep the controller always in an "on" position. I am hoping this is the fix I was looking for. I am planning on using a 40 amp fuse too. My battery has a max continuous output of 40 amps but the Controller is only 34 amps. I know there is the potential of burning the controller box, but I am wondering about the wiring. It looks like the stock wiring for the switch..etc. is 10 gauge which is rated at 30 amps. Is there a high potential of melting the wire by using a 40 amp fuse instead of 30?

For some reason all of a sudden the battery will not charge over 42.4 and thing you could think of for me to fix it .

How can l do so and keep the kill switch on the brakes?
@MarleyJaxGarage Жыл бұрын
If you plug the brake connectors in like I did than it will work just like before.

Do you have to change the throttle, or is that just to get the three speeds?
@MarleyJaxGarage2 жыл бұрын
You can use the throttle just make sure you wire the three speed wires together.

Nice Video. Quick question - Are those builds only possible with Razor Bikes or can i use any electric mini Bike? Also how much mileage do you have with this build?
@MarleyJaxGarage Жыл бұрын
No you should be able to swap this drive train into many different platforms. Might need more modifications for the motor mounting but everything else would be similar as far as wiring. Not sure on mileage as the bike has no gauges. The battery depends on the terrain and weight of the rider so not an easy answer.

I seen one dude just cut his wire right at his handle by on the KTM electric dirt bike so he could do wheelies this way it doesn't shut the motor off
@MarleyJaxGarage2 жыл бұрын
Yea you don’t need to connect the brake wires to run this controller but most people will want to wire them up.

How did you do the electric start I can’t do it

What if I don’t have a three speed throttle? I just have the one speed with a key switch. Do I need to connect any of the speeds?
@MarleyJaxGarage2 жыл бұрын
Yes you need to wire two of the three speed wires together. You will have to try different configurations to get the top speed.

What are those quick disconnect wires rated for? The ones in the description are unavailable so I bought other ones but they are only rated for 300 V. Will that be OK?
@MarleyJaxGarage2 жыл бұрын
What gauge wire did you get? The ones I used were 10 gauge which is rated at like 30 amps. Not sure what that would be in volts.

If you switch it to the highest speed, are you still able to regulate your speed with the twist grip? What I mean is, can you hold it at part throttle and just cruise? It just seems like your throttle starts very violently. I like the stock throttle feel because of how smoothly you can take off. I have read this to be a common complaint with these kits and the science-y people blame it on the actual controller, not the twist grip.
@MarleyJaxGarage2 жыл бұрын
You can regulate your speed but it definitely has a jerky start. It works like you would expect it after you get going. After riding for a while I have learned how to control it better. I heard the same thing, with a better controller you can program more and get a smoother take off.

You can also use a bigger sprocket for less torque

Nice video but any body know if you have to change the throttle???😢

You don't have to change the throttle, only if you want to make it a 3 speed.

Thank you for the great video. My MX650 has been sitting in our garage for over a year with a dead battery. I am excited to upgrade it using your video. I do have a quick question though. I am looking to add a little more power and was looking at a 48V, 40amp Battery and a 2000W 48V 42amp motor kit. Would these work together? I am not that savvy on batteries and motors. I believe the battery Amp needs to match the controller correct? I would post a link to the battery and motor, but I don't think I am allowed to in the comments.
@MarleyJaxGarage2 жыл бұрын
Yea I think so as long as the battery has a max continuous discharge current of 40 amps.

Those are quick disconnects and are linked in my description.

I put together the same kit as you (motor and controller). I kept the throttle from the kit and did not use the 3 speed throttle. I havent been able to get it to work. Do I need to do something with the elock plug on the controller? thanks
@MarleyJaxGarage2 жыл бұрын
The e-lock needs to be wired together if you are not going to use a switch. You might also need to wire two of the three speed wires together, usually it’s the middle wire and one of the other two.

@@MarleyJaxGarage Do i just cut the connector off of the orange and red wires and splice them together? Can I still use the original on/off switch on the black cover if I do this? thx

What do you recommend for a Adult 5'8" 170lbs? And whats the difference between the RSF650 AND MX650, SX500? I'm looking to buy and not sure because the mx is 100 dollars cheaper. What ever I buy I will be Modding
@MarleyJaxGarage2 жыл бұрын
I am 5’10” 200 so probably the same setup. Not sure about the rsf650 but the MX650 and SX500 are only slightly different . The main difference I know of is the battery box is slightly larger on sx500 because of the angle of the rear shock but it sits about 1 inch lower. Otherwise they are pretty much same. If you are going to mod it right away I would just get the cheapest. There are probably people selling around you with dead batteries, I see them all the time.
