i am madly in love w my slanted rex. after many videos n tutorials for shaving with sensitive skin. the cold water technique you mentioned and just letting razor slide with its own weight w no added pressure i get smooth irritation free shaves 80 percent of the time ! which for me is a win.

I've owned a konsul for nearly 2 years treated myself to a 50th birthday present. Like most of us in the wet shaving world have few de razors. But I find it sooo hard not to pick the konsul up it's a beautiful razor and never have I had a problem loading the blade .stunning job matt

I love the Konsul❤ and have been using it exclusively since I bought it a year ago. Loading it has never been an issue. I use my fingers to grip the side tabs of the blade, pull it over the posts to “pre-clamp” the blade, insert the handle, and tighten it. This method ensures perfect alignment every time.

The Konsul is an absolute delight. I too, hold the end tabs in place with woth thumb and index finger, as I do with others. Never a cut or problem. It should be axiomatic, as the design is great in every facet. Enjoy the weekend. Cheers, John

I have a Konsul and have never had an issue with misalignment. Squeezing the three pieces together is easy and it works. I would not change it.

Can't say I've ever had an issue loading the Konsul. I've accidentally misaligned the blade, but then you can feel it won't screw in all the way and it looks wrong. Great razor Matt, I wouldn't change it.

I love my ambassador, I’m too afraid to buy the Konsul because if I did I’d end up not using my ambassador anymore lol! But I wouldn’t have you change the design of these at all, if it isn’t broken don’t fix it and I’m pretty sure most of us know these razors are definitely not broken ☺️

Very useful video Matt. I own both the Ambassador and the Konsul. Loading the blade in the Ambassador, I get the blade locked and aligned perfectly every time. With the Konsul, not so much (probably around 60 percent of the time I get the blade locked and aligned first time). This isn't an issue for me, as I just put it down to the slant angle making it less easy to do this. I don't know why I have not thought of it before, but the next time I use my Konsul, I will try the method you described (clamping the top cap and the base plate together and then tightening) and see if this provides me with more success.

Love my Konsul BUT! Loading could be a bit easier. The blade locating bosses could be extended some so that when the blade is laid on the cap while still flat the blade could sit on the boss’s making assembly easier. Look at the Henson razor for an example. It’s not at big of a deal but after using the Henson for a while before I got my Rex it is something I noticed right away. Still an amazing razor though!

Thanks for the video Matt. So the level of aggressiveness of Sentry is more like the same as Konsul Number 4 setting. What if it compares to ambassador? What level of setting is it? Just got the ambassador. After trying many different blades, I got BBS with setting number 4 ambassador and rex blade. Now I just bought Sentry (still waiting for the shipment) and it will be my first slant razor..ever... I just hoped the setting is also the same at number 4 with the ambassador. Otherwise, it's gonna be a fun adventure with many razors to try😄😄😄

I feel like I messed up. I have an Ambassador and a Sentry. I never adjust the Ambassador when I use it. I always want adjustability when I use the Sentry. I should've got an Envoy and a Konsul. Hindsight 20/20. Anyway, I put the blade on the top cap, align it with the tabs and pinch it. Then I put the guard on and switch from pinching the blade to squeezing the top cap and guard together while I screw the handle on. It works for me, and I think a two piece would make it easier (should've got a Konsul).

Hey Matt, quick question, unrelated to this specific video. I have 2 straight razors, one from you and one from the art of shaving. I've noticed they have gotten a bit of rust on them. How can I safely get the rust off? Thanks.

Flitz or maas metal polish. Avoid edge! Go left and right slowly. Maybe even tape edge with electrical tape

When I load mine, I push the blade down into the cap and then hold it there by pinching the sides of the blade. Then I just slide the razor into the stem and push it down and just let the guard push my fingers out of the way. Then while still holding it together with my thumb and index finger I then use my other hand to tighten it down. Nothing to it and there's no crunching sound.

Hmm I got my Rex (non-slant) out the other day after a long time in my collection and set it on 4 but immediately cut myself quite nastily adjusting it down to 2 did not make much difference. Now admittedly I was using a Feather blade but I had to go back to my Feather AS-D2 to finish what was an unpleasant shave.Any ideas as to what I should be doing to avoid this happening as the Rex was really quite an expensive buy for me??

I have an Ambassador and a Consul. I give the Ambassador 100 points for workmanship, quality and handling. Unfortunately, I can only give the Konsul 95 points. The 5 points deduction is for the awkward loading of the blade, because the teeth are not long enough and, if you are not careful, it can lead to the blade being misjudged. For me as a Swiss who loves 100% perfection above all else, this is unfortunately not perfect enough. I heard the arguments in the video as to why and why not. But I can't follow them. I wouldn't mind additional costs if 100% perfection required new engineering, then that's the way it is. I had planned to buy one of each Rex Konsul, simply for decoration in the bathroom cabinet and to alternate the colors a bit, depending on the morning mood. I'm not going to do that at the moment. If a correction of this, in my personal opinion 5-point shortcoming could be made, I would buy it immediately.

Well Said. It's Good to hear someone else knows and addresses strange things like this. The obvious things like loading a Razor Blade into a Razor are of those things that even back then in 1903-04 (despite the DE Razors and the DE Razor Blades being a new thing) a normal being could and should figure out easily and quickly on his own, especially in this day and age and with the internet being in everyone's pocket one can learn almost anything on his own (not only this but so many other things which really might need learning or asking). It is such a dangerous and annoying design with those pins that are too short to engage the blade before bending the blade. On the Konsul, it is even worse, just last to copy the Ambassador pins. It would be so simple to make the pins longer and cut the base for them. Why not make the pins super long like a Fatip? Then you could just drop the blade over the pins and snug it down.

Yes, you did it to save money and because you wanted to avoid rust. Interesting because my $545 gold Konsul XL has rust where the threaded pin engages the cap. I think at the price point, you could have used a big block of 316L steel and drilled the base for a safe intuitive and corrosion resistant razor.
