Wolfgang Voigt on Creativity and Independence | Red Bull Music Academy

In this public conversation as part of the Red Bull Music Academy 20th Anniversary Tour in Germany, Voigt sat down with Hanna Bächer to delve deep into his vast catalog of music and the peculiarities of his creative process.
If you were to find the words Cologne and techno in the same sentence, chances are a third word would follow almost automatically: Kompakt. A record shop and label, Kompakt was co-founded by local producer Wolfgang Voigt in 1993 under the name Delirium. That same year, inspired by the explosion of dance music in England, Voigt began releasing music as Mike Ink, the first in a long list of aliases (GAS, Freiland, Love Inc.). Over the past 25 years, Voigt has created a complex cosmos of music in which he plays with and rearranges the sonic building blocks of genres. Best known for his contributions to the canon of minimal techno, Voigt’s work is ultimately larger than just a name or a single idea.
