Pascal, thank you for including my design in your contest. I wasn't aware of the contest until it was too late to enter. I was doing this mod on my own to improve the drivability. So that said, my design wasn't geared towards your criteria, but it does make the sled more fun to drive...

Love this!!! I have a dream that one day we'll be able to legitimately whip RC snowmobiles and dirt bikes using active rider control. The performance of these machines in real life depends so much on the riders weight control that there's gotta be some solution to take these type of vehicles to the next level. I'd love to see more of this development. If I had more time (kids) I would be in this contest to contribute. I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL.

Thank you very much Pascal for the generous price!!! 😀 I think that I have seen you using that controller on some other video of yours, it looks great. I will submit my address as soon as possible on the website. I am also really glad you liked my system, it took a lot of time to design, print and test. It was really fun challenge this year and I also enjoyed seeing all contenders each with different ideas. Like you said, even more improvement can be made with the scale look, and the throttle is quite hard to control with a stick. Maybe also a narrower front end would help, but other than that, it's a successful project!

I wasn't aware effort was the primary contributing factor for this challenge, one would think effectiveness would be. I purposely kept it relatively simple so that more in the community could potentially benefit from it. Correct that it has a gyro, Gyro is connected to the steering too on the yaw axis, not just the rider on the roll axis, it also has a 2mm spring steel being used as an (anti) sway bar. Last weekend, which of course was way to late for the contest, I did add 32 grams/1.2 oz behind the rider's neck, the rider also has a coat now so it looks better and hides the extra weight. I did some additional adjustments on the gyro as well, e.g. set the max bank angle from 60 degrees to 30 degrees and increased the gain a little bit on the roll axis. . After the gyro adjustments and little bit of weight added this past weekend, I was able to do some pretty wild side hilling, there were a couple times I was able to blip the throttle and the sled recovered on the side of the hill even with it being tilted over 60 degrees! I was also able to run full throttle on 3s for extended passes with no speed wobble whatsoever, I think it may have hit close to 30mph. I plan on posting this tomorrow, unfortunately didn't get footage of the side hilling. I do agree that a more narrow ski stance might be beneficial but I had to work with what I had (for lack of snow also). Total cost was cost of 1 additional servo, 1 gyro (about $35) plus the rider which I know can be 3D printed, and some 2mm spring steel from K&S metals. Ultra effective and ultra realistic. The other benefit of the relative simplicity is that it allows for still using a standard surface grip transmitter, with a dual stick type usually used in aircraft being optional. I'm obviously bias here but wanted to make mention of my experience and how it's relatively easy to implement which in turn means more people in the community could potentially ultimately benefit. Hopefully we get more snow here soon and I will most certainly post video of it in deep snow.

What it needs is twin flywheels like the self-balancing monorail. It would need two flywheels with a gear making the flywheels procession in opposite directions canceling each other out and then adding a leaning rider on top of all that. It worked really well for a guy who made a Quad/ATV for a handicapped person who did not have the strong core strength to lean over the side of the ATV to prevent it from tipping in sharp turns. Look up the self-balancing monorail to see the twin flywheel design.

I've seen the video, very clever system indeed. Maybe the concept could be merged with a differential to add a second input to the flywheels and actively change their behavior! But i have the feeling that the weight and space taken would be a strong setback...

You're right! I checked after the video. 19 years and older in every province and territory except Quebec, Manitoba and Alberta where it is 18 years and older.
