bucky bowman it bears a striking resemblance to today’s B2 spirit stealth bomber. A little bit of history the Horton 229 carried the same engines as the Me262 jet fighter

Yes it's astonishing what Germany achieved in its allegedly darkest time of the Nazi regime. They were not only leading in science and engeneering but also had full enmployment and biggest economy growth, while at the same time cutting the chains of international debt money.

The Hortens Brothers 229 was an amazing plane of it´s time. Astounding!!! Wood and Jet Engines! The first Stealth, ever! Engine Technology made the first Protype Crash! But consider this plane was flewn without any computer, aiding the pilot. And it flew damn well. But let´s not forget Wood and RR Propeller Engines. The Mosquito of de Havilland

zenkert aahl The plane was not designed for stealth nor had any intentions of it. It was produced because it promised a Focke-Wulf 1000kg bomb X 1000km X 1000km/h principal and it did this by reducing drag. Plus, it’s design only reduced its radar detection range to the equivalent of 3/4 the detection range of a Bf 109G flying over the English Channel at 40meters.

Vande, this plane had 20% less radar signature when tested with the type of radar that england was using at the time. This info was from Northrop/ Grumman after they built a full size model and tested it.

At the last airshow I went to, in a military base, I asked a guard with radio to transmit a message to the PA guy, his chat and the (awful) music were so incredibly loud you couldn't hear any engines, pistons or jet. It was a pain to watch like that the very nice aerobatics where you want to hear what the pilot is doing with the power.

V1 in the context of Vergeltungswaffe (revenge weapon) was the first cruisemissile with a simple pulsejet engine.V2 was the first long range (several 100 km) artillery rocket Seperate from this V Weapons the letter V was also used to designate preseries (Vorserie) aircraft. So the Me 109 V1 was the first Me 109 built for testing. The Me 109 V2 was the second Me 109 build, perhaps with a different engine,or other modifications In the context of the discussion it was the Ho 229 no.3 built for tests

Yeah, Northrup XP-79 rocket then jet fighter in 1942-45, then the YB-35 prop powered bomber wing from 1943- 46 followed by the Northrup YB-49 8 jet powered version in the late 40's. There has always been some question as to wether the Horten actually flew, or flew under power, whereas the Northrup wings all flew, and the YB's were almost put into production full time.

V in an aircraft designation meant "Vorserie", preseries test aircraft. V1 was the first one of a new aircraft model built for testing, V2 the second one and so on. Its a bit similar to the US designation XB, XP and so on for experimental (test versions) of a new aircraft. So the Ho229 V3 was the third preseries aircraft built for testing.

Unfortunately for announce guy and Ckymatt22, The Americans didn't "copy" anything in 2000, hinting at the B-2 Bomber. the American aircraft designer was Jack Northrup was building and flying wing aircraft as early as 1936, If memory serves. And Northrup's design and research were completely separate from the German Horton brothers or German scientists. Yes they found one of the Horton 229's, They still have it. However Northrup was ahead of the Horton's in the powered flying wings concept.
