Actually. I was a victim of those poor aluminum shocks that you mentioned , So I just restored back my old Team associated stock shocks with 60 weight oil and they are doing much better. I am looking at buying Hot racing big bore shocks
@hybrid324946 жыл бұрын
Which team associated model is this you have? As I recall the factory team associated shocks on most of their models are very good, they almost never leak either (the alum body ones). I just checked out the hot racing big bore shocks on eBay and tower hobbies. Not sure of that brand honestly, if you can get proline brand ones, thats the way to go. Even stock traxxas shocks are not bad compared to many of those terrible chinese ones.
@Otiesh6 жыл бұрын
It's an upgraded Team associated pro rally, sure these shocks had lasted for long 'till one shock started liking after a hard crash that broke even the front diff. I had just upgraded it with a Castle motor and Hobbywing ESC first run test when it crashed. Yeah! I saw them on eBay and I might go for them since I had upgraded my chassis with aluminum under protection and I wanted to get off from plastic shocks.

Great video bro, nice one. I have watched other rc shock videos and they say if the damper bounces out with no spring on the shock that means there's too much oil. Now I see they are wrong. Very helpful.
@hybrid324943 жыл бұрын
hey bro! thanks for watching! LOL, yes, they are totally wrong! You want a little rebound of the piston without the spring. This also acts like a tiny progressive effect on the shock, you know.

I realize this video is a few years old bit it's one of the best I've seen on oil dampening and rebound. I purchased an rc truck for my young son for Christmas and after he busted a shock shaft on his second battery I realized right away that the shocks suck ass. I'd like to upgrade the shocks but since I'm new and still learning I was wondering if I can replace them with a different size then what came as stock. The stock shock sizes are 87mm front and 109mm back from eye to eye but I'm having a hard time finding those sizes. Will slightly longer or shorter shocks still fit on my truck so long as the shaft ends are still the same size? I'd really appreciate any help you could offer as you seem to have a great deal of experience. Thanks.

Well done video! I'm cleaning up a Tamiya Neo Top-Force (item 57711) car that wasn't used much and has be in the box for 15-20 years I guess. Will be sending to our son for his boys. Checking the car out the front shocks didn't rebound at all. Didn't know the shocks actually contained oil - and when opened there was only a film of oil. I'd like to just put same weight oil in but don't know what that was. Hybrid - any thoughts on what the original oil weight might have been or a suggested weight? I already knew how to open the shocks but you did an exceptionally good video!
@Ed-ty1kr5 жыл бұрын
Also, just because they are aluminum does not mean they are better, even if you buy the same design, and a high end manufacturer. The shock caps on the other hand, I would recommend aluminum, so that they dont pop off. As for the shock bodies, sometimes the composite or plastic high end shocks do work better. Especially on those super hot track days. Because after you run the vehicle for some time, the aluminum bodied shocks tend to heat up the shock oil, and thereby ruining your perfect setup. I found this out from the Team Associated rep... or directly from the horses mouth, if you will. After I asked why my buggy tends to loose it's compression and rebound effectiveness after a few minutes into a race. I even thought the first time this happened, that the oil was leaking out somehow, but it was all still there. So aluminum does heat up quite a bit, from the friction caused by heavy use, or if you live in Florida like myself. And when constituency is a key to victory, a car that behaves differently at the start of a race, to the crucial last few laps. It makes a huge difference.

Hi Hybrid32494, u said that if a RC car doesn't bounce much from a landing, it is good. how do you achieve such results? what wt oil were used? thanks
@hybrid324946 жыл бұрын
hello, thanks for watching!!!. In general you want the shocks to absorb any impacts and not bounce up and down with a very springy type motion. I generally use 50-80 weight shock oils, depending on the shock types. Its really a matter of you doing trial and error with each shock you have. Some of the cheaper RC brands are unpredictable and have poor shock quality that are difficult to tune. Try your best to get it to not bounce and drive plush.

I have the gold shocks and the only thing i dont like is they dont have a propper bladder or bleed hole. I bought my Traxxas rustler 4x4 vxl of a friend with them installed and he didn’t know he had to oil them apparently. I felt the car really bouncy so i checked and they where empty. I oiled them and they work pretty good and better than stock except im never able to completely bleed em. Any tips would be good. Maybe using them without oil looses em up a bit then you throw in some oil and they are set lol

Hey hyrbrid32494 nice break down video! Maybe you can help me....I've purchased 90mm shocks for my Traxxas Broncho and I'm trying to oil them up before running them, but after thinking I have all the air bubbles out I'm still getting "bouncy", and squishy reload. It looks like the truck has hydraulics. I'm using 35weight oil. If I fill them up, as seen others do, the shocks don't bound at all...stiff.What am I doing wrong?? Speak to me ole' RC wise one...you're my only help. Thanks
@hybrid324946 жыл бұрын
Hey buddy, I have been called an RC GURU b4, lol. Honestly the air bubbles are not a big issue, I don't really even worry about them much. Are you filling the shocks up near the top, but still gotta leave some room on top for the little rubber bladder piece attached to the shock cap on top. SO when you say bouncy you mean that it is not dampened enough?? If that's the case, you need heavier shock oil. 35 weight oil is really light stuff, try getting any 80-90 oil. If that is too thick you can always mix the two, they are all mostly silicone oils anyway, should be fine. I do that.

was hoping you can provide some guidance on how much weight to use for what type of car/truck
@hybrid324944 жыл бұрын
hey buddy! That is a good question, a good starting point is to find out what the stock shock oil weight is that comes in the RC from the factory. Based on that you can see if you want more or less dampening, you know? It's not really a fixed method because most shocks can also be tuned with various pistons that will control the rate of oil flow, so alot of variables there. Best to know the stock rated oils and go up about 10-20 weight at a time, until you're happy with the result.

Hello, I come for this reason ask for help from someone who knows, which is: about oil shock absorbers, ... once bought a pack of 4 or 6 bottles of 60ml with numbers on its label that goes from 800 to 3000cst, .. I believe this is the name, and what I wanted to know is with the increase of such number (cst) the oil gets thinner, or thicker! overall and for 1: 8 and 1:10 scale cars of road, what would you advise? , .. because I think what I have very thick, though, that some say is also for differentials, if you can give me a help in this issue of damping oil I appreciate, .. thank you

I’ve probably had 15 runs with it and the shocks have begun to leak. What do you recommend for that car ? The shocks out the box were awesome, but over time the rear ones have begun to leak. What oil do you recommend ? Thanks!

Some people set the bladder inside the cap before screwing it on. Does this really matter?

@hybrid324944 жыл бұрын
hey bro! To be honest with you I don't really care about the tiny amounts of air bubbles in there, this is the most normal and reliable method on filling shocks with oil, you wont notice any differences by removing the tiny air bubbles, this takes time and effort. The rebound as I showed is adequate.
